MIPRC 2017 WICHITA How Long Distance & Corridor Trains Reinforce Each Other

• No other region of the United States has access to long distance rail services like the Midwest

• With as the historic hub on transcontinental railroading, it serves as the hub for eight of Amtrak’s fifteen long distance routes

• These eight routes form a valuable framework that has helped sustain a closely linked series of shorter corridor trains that all fall under Section 209 of PRIIA

• These two networks share valuable resources: stations, yards, crew bases, and in some cases equipment

• They also foster an awareness and familiarity with train travel that helps build ridership

•Like the Missouri River Runner, an extended Flyer would connect to the Southwest Chief and the Texas Eagle

•Connections made possible by and extended Flyer would shave 13 hours from OKC‐Chicago transit time and 11 hours between OKC and LA
