Remember me, Joe S. Board of Managers 2019 Columbe? You have not heard much from me this year but nothing much has been going on either. We canceled most Director events due to this year’s turmoil. The February dinner meeting Joe S. Columbe had a fair number in attendance at Bynum’s Steakhouse. The summer picnic was a great success. With the five car clubs that were invited, we had 23 Hoosier Region members in attendance, Treasurer with a total of 73 enjoying the event.     Volume 21 Issue 8 Our 20th year August 1, 2021 What could be better than a red 1949 Cosmo Convertible? Why, not much, says Nels Woods, happy owner of this big red beast. My beloved 1949 Lincoln Cosmopolitan convertible has been in my possession for one year now. The story starts, that is, three years prior in 2018. I was a freshman student attending McPherson College for their automotive restoration program. I was 19 at the time and chasing a Welcome to the dream in the field I love, automotive restoration. Johnson’s father, Frank Johnson, was born in Paris, Michigan in 1871 and attended local public schools and Michigan State College (now Michigan State University). After earning a degree in mechanical engineering in 1895, Frank Johnson worked as a tool designer and engineer with the Leland and Faulconer Company. Leland and Faulconer Company was a noted machine and tool shop started by Henry M. Leland in 1890 that supplied engines, transmission, and steering gear to the Henry Ford Company and later the Cadillac Motor Company. Leland and his son Wilfred C. Leland assumed control of Cadillac in 1902 and merged the companies. Johnson was instrumental in the key phases of early engine design at Cadillac.

Both candidates are great-great grandchildren of Henry Ford, who founded the auto company in 1903. Their nominations to the board continue the Ford family’s nearly 118 years of active involvement with and stewardship of the company. Alexandra Ford English, 33, the daughter of Ford Executive Chairman Bill Ford, is currently a director in Corporate Strategy at the company, responsible for enterprise, connectivity and digital network strategic plans. Before that, she was director of Market and Operations for Ford Autonomous Vehicles LLC and responsible for the successful deployment and operations of Ford’s autonomous vehicle business in Miami; Austin, Texas; and Washington, D.C. Ford English is also Ford’s representative to the board of directors of Rivian, the electric carmaker in which Ford owns an equity interest. Prior to joining Ford in 2017, Ford English ran merchandising divisions for Tory Burch in New York City and Gap Inc.
