  • How Are the Major Streaming Services Reshaping the Film Industry
How Are the Major Streaming Services Reshaping the Film Industry Master Thesis MSc Strategy, Organization and Leadership Submission: May 9th, 2018 Normal pages: 106 (237.228 characters incl. spaces) Supervisor: Mehran Moghaddas (DVIP, INT) Students: Viktoria Vas & Gerda Binkyte Copenhagen Business School 2018 Abstract The paper examines the effects major streaming services, such as Netflix, Amazon, HBO have on the Danish film industry, and seeks to identify how individual producers and independent production companies in the country can exploit the rising opportunities. The research used a mix of deductive and inductive reasoning in the analysis, for which twelve semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with industry professionals from Denmark over the course of five weeks. This led to insightful findings that can be used for further researches for both academics and professionals. The analysis built on theories discussed in the literature review; Porter’s five forces (Porter, 1979), supply chain, emerging strategy (Mintzberg, 1987), marketing mix, four trajectories of change (McGahan, 2004). The findings include changes in certain links in the supply chain of film production, such as; affects on producers and film financing, changes in sales and distribution. While for producers SVOD services mainly bring additional financing opportunities, decreasing the power of DFI and the national broadcasters, sales agents and distribution is highly affected. Sales agents will need to adapt to the changing conditions, and transform themselves from traditional sales agents to agents who offer extra services for their clients. Distribution is affected in a way that its release windows system is disrupted and shortening some of these windows might not be avoided in the future.

INSTITUTION Inter Nationes, Bonn (West Germany). PUB DATE 92 NOTE 52p.; Translated by Brangwyn Jones. PUB TYPE Reports Evaluative/Feasibility (142) EDRS PRICE MF01/PC03 Plus Postage. DESCRIPTORS Developing Nations; Foreign Countries; Freedom of Speech; *Mass Media; *Mass Media Effects; *Mass Media Role; Media Research; Professional Training; Technological Advancement IDENTIFIERS *Germany; Historical Background; Journalists; Market Analysis; Media Government Relationship; Media Ownership; Third World; *West Germany ABSTRACT Citing statistics that show that its citizens are well catered for by the mass media, this paper answers questions concerning the media landscape in the Federal Republic of Germany. The paper discusses: (1) Structure and framework conditions of the German media (a historical review of the mass media since 1945); (2) Press (including its particular reliance on local news and the creation of the world status media group, Bertelsmann AG);(3) News agencies and public relations work (which insure a "never-ending stream" of information);(4) Radio and Television (with emphasis on the Federal Republic's surprisingly large number of radio stations--public, commercial, and "guest");(5) New communication paths and media (especially communication and broadcasting satellites and cable in wideband-channel networks);(6) The profession of journalist (which still relies on on-the-job training rather than university degrees); and (7) Help for the media in the Third World (professional training in Germany of journalists and technical experts from underdeveloped countries appears to be the most appropriate way to promote Third World media).

  • The Skripal Case Representation in Czech Television News
The Skripal Case Representation in Czech Television News Renáta Sedláková Palacký University, Czech Republic | [email protected] Marek Lapčík Silesian University in Opava, Czech Republic | [email protected] ABSTRACT This article examines the representation of Agent Skripal’s poisoning on the public service broadcasting channel Czech Television (CT) in the first half of 2018, using content, discourse and semiotic analyses. We analysed the representation of this event on the following five television news programmes: Events (Události), Events and Commentaries (Události komentáře), News at 23 (Zprávy ve 23), Horizon CT24 (Horizont ČT24) and 90’ CT24 (90’ ČT24). The event’s representation was based on the presentation of aspects of the event and statements by individual actors. The article shows naturalisation of the British explanation of the event in the Czech television broadcasts. This so-called ‘British narrative’ was the prevailing framing of the event. Differences in the representation of various opinions and in the proportionality of the time devoted to the individual actors were present. However, significant systematic intentional implications, obvious evaluations or identifiable authorial signposting was not evident in the researched sample. We argue that the television coverage of the Skripal case represents a habitual form of the news reporting by the Czech public service broadcaster within the applicable law. KEYWORDS news discourse, discourse analysis, content analysis, Czech public broadcaster, public service television,
