Most of the poems move forward according to the imagination. Nice night, says the drop. Where you headed? says the bomb. Don't know, says the drop. Well goodbye, says the bomb. The bomb thinks, I am too heavy to make friends. Then he touches the mudbrick building. Shortly after, landing in debris, the drop thinks, O. 1 The Town The little town in my brain has seen better days but at least you're here, you with the brown yarn hair, you whose father farmed dairy. The way you gaze at your palm when you speak is sexy, as if our hands controlled us and the brain was secondary— I wish the brain were secondary. Once when we were together, eating bread and cheese by the river, the Gunderson dog caught a hare right in front of us. He took its neck in his teeth and thrashed. By the time Ruth Gunderson wrestled the dog off the hare was dead, curled in the grass like a towel. You hid your face in your hands. Little man that I was, I took this as a chance to finally touch you. I'm sorry, I said, reaching across the thin, peculiar air between us. 2 I’m sorry you had to see that, letting my fingertips rest on the skin of your back. You said nothing, uncrossed your legs and ran toward the pine woods. I just sat there and watched ants feast on the hare's blood, black windmill in the distance spinning. 3 Bird Call Association Andre got up and gave a crow call, the same one he gave every year—well, maybe a little sharper this time around,

He had grown up seeing Greek statues of ideal, smooth women, and apparently did not know that women even had pubic hair. The story goes that on his wedding night, he was so shocked and disgusted by his bride’s muff that he could not perform, and the marriage was later annulled. (Poubelle, 2005: 8). It is widely believed that gender and concepts of “femininity” and “masculinity” are linked and come naturally to someone based on their sex. In reality, however, it takes a lot of work and observation to learn how to act “like a girl” or “like a boy.” Erving Goffman wrote in Presentation of Self in Everyday Life of one’s construction and presentation of self and the work it takes an individual to project a specific image of self in every day interactions. He used theatrical metaphors to examine social interactions, comparing individuals in society to actors in a play, who are always acting out a specific script which takes preparation both behind the curtain and in front of it to act out convincingly.

It is quite common for people to have a minor amount of an athlete's foot condition. This would appear as slight scaling and/or itching between the toes. In addition, patients may have thickened toenails as part of the athlete's foot condition. Again the problem on the feet is very common and often patients are not even aware of it. In some patients, however, the athlete's foot fungus can spread to another area of the body. For some strange and unknown reason, it seems to affect only one hand. That is why the condition is called 2 foot - 1 hand syndrome. It is not clear why the problem develops in only one hand or why the right or left is involved in some patients. Fortunately there is very effective treatment to control this minor skin problem. If the problem with the superficial fungus infection is confined to the skin, then a short course of treatment with an oral antibiotic is all that is required. This antibiotic is very safe and normally clears the skin up fairly rapidly. It is often used with a topical cream to speed the healing process. If, however, the fingernails of the affected hand are also involved then a more prolonged course of the antibiotic will be necessary.

Wirstiuk, Master of Fine Arts, 2009 Thesis Directed by: Professor Merrill Feitell Department of Creative Writing Veda is a young Ukrainian-American woman from New Jersey who is creative, insightful, and observant. Her concerns are ordinary yet pressing, and she struggles with obsession, physical distance, and personal identity. Though she loves home, life forces her to leave again and again. Veda is moved by Wildwood, the Pine Barrens, the PATH train, and the Meadowlands. Memories of her favorite landscape ground her, no matter where she happens to be. Veda’s parents are a steady, dependable presence, but her peer relationships are her greatest source of interest and inner conflict. Madsy is her best friend and confidante, Arthur is her first love, and Theo inspires such tumultuous passion that he nearly ruins her. Art is her redemptive force.   • Beauty and Misogyny: Harmful Cultural Practices in the West
    BEAUTY AND MISOGYNY Should western beauty practices, ranging from lipstick to labiaplasty, be included within the United Nations' understanding of harmful traditional/ cultural practices? By examining the role of common beauty practices in damaging the health of women, creating sexual difference, and enforcing female deference, this book argues that they should. In the 1970s feminists criticized pervasive beauty regimes such as dieting and depilation, but in the last two decades the brutality of western beauty practices has become much more severe. Today's practices can require the breaking of skin, spilling of blood and rearrangement or amputation of body parts. Some ``new'' feminists argue that beauty practices are no longer oppressive now that women can ``choose'' them. This book seeks to make sense of why beauty practices are not only just as persistent 30 years after the feminist critique developed, but in many ways more extreme. By examining the pervasive use of makeup, the misogyny of fashion and high- heeled shoes, and by looking at the role of pornography in the creation of increasingly popular beauty practices such as breast implants, genital waxing and surgical alteration of the labia, Beauty and Misogyny seeks to explain why harmful beauty practices persist in the west and have become so extreme. It looks at the cosmetic surgery and body piercing/cutting industries as being forms of self-mutilation by proxy, in which the surgeons and piercers serve as proxies to harm women's bodies. It concludes by considering how a culture of resistance to these practices can be created. This essential work will appeal to students and teachers of feminist psy- chology, gender studies, cultural studies, and feminist sociology at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and to anyone with an interest in feminism, women and beauty, and women's health.
