FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Date: May 15, 2014 CONTACT: Ethan Hulsey, Atlantic Region Coordinator SID, Millersville University Phone: (717) 872‐3100 E‐mail: [email protected] Mercyhurst’s Altavilla and East Stroudsburg’s Knott Headline Daktronics All‐Atlantic Region Baseball Selections Millersville, Pa. – Mercyhurst’s Dan Altavilla was named Daktronics Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year and East Stroudsburg outfielder Chris Knott was selected as the region’s player of the year, headlining 33 All‐ Atlantic Region selections. The Daktronics All‐Atlantic Region teams are comprised of players from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), the Mountain East Conference (MEC) and the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). The 16 players voted to the first team will be placed on the national ballot for All‐America consideration. Altavilla, also voted the PSAC Western Division Pitcher of the Year, posted a perfect 9‐0 record, 1.10 ERA and five complete games in 11 starts. In just 73.1 innings, Altavilla struck out 118 batters and held opponents to a .160 batting average against. Altavilla led the Division II in strikeouts per nine innings (14.48) and also ranked third in hits per nine innings, third in total strikeouts and seventh in ERA. Knott, the PSAC East Player of the Year, batted .399 with a .484 on base percentage, 46 runs scored, 44 RBIs, 15 doubles, four triples and six homers. The center fielder ranked in the PSAC’s top five in eight offensive categories and led the league in doubles and RBIs. Shepherd, the No. 2 seed in the upcoming NCAA Atlantic Regional, led all teams with four first team selections: Spencer Wolfe (catcher), Jacob Carney (second base), Michael Lott (outfield) and Paul Hvozdovic (starting pitcher). Seton Hill totaled one first team pick in relief pitcher Jesse Cooper and three second team selections in third baseman Nick Sell, outfielder Cody Herald, and starting pitcher Mike Bittel. Concord, Mercyhurst, East Stroudsburg, Millersville, Winston‐Salem State and West Virginia State also produced multiple selections. Millersville’s Zach Stone (non‐pitcher utility) and Seton Hill’s Nick Sell (third base) both landed their third career All‐Atlantic Region honor.
