A residential property in Cannon Heath, Overton, was broken into during daylight hours and jewellery was stolen. An electric bike was stolen from a garage in Ecchinswell. Some facts about burglaries (sources in brackets). Most burglaries take place between 10am and 3pm. (Safestyle UK) The average burglary lasts for eight minutes. (Dr Claire Nee, Unviersity of Portsmouth) Many burglaries are ‘spur of the moment’ decisions by a burglar who notices an open door, open window, valuables on display or some other weakness. (Thames Valley Police) The vast majority of burglars will want to avoid meeting the home’s occupants at any cost. (The Independent) A burglar may typically examine many houses before finding one that looks like an easy one to steal from. Homes with no security measures in place are five times more likely to be burgled than those with simple security measures. Good window locks and strong deadlocks can make a big difference. In most burglaries, the criminals broke into the house or flat through the door, either by forcing the lock or kicking it in. -

Day-to-day shopping requirements can be found in Kingsclere and Tadley. There are public houses at Charter Alley and Wolverton Townsend, as well as the popular Wellington Arms public house/restaurant in Baughurst. The major regional centres of Basingstoke, Reading and Newbury have a broad range of shopping, recreational and educational facilities and are all within easy reach. HE district round Basingstoke offers itself as the subject for a study of Romano-British . population development and. Tdistribution because Basingstoke Museum contains a singu larly complete collection of finds made in this area over a long period of years, and preserved by Mr. G. W. Willis. A number of the finds made are recorded by him and J. R. Ellaway in the Proceedings of the Hampshire Field Club (Vol. XV, 245 ff.). The known sites in the district were considerably multiplied by the field-work of S. E. Winbolt, who recorded them in the Proceedings of the same Society.1 I must express my indebtedness to Mr. G. W. Willis, F.S.A., Hon. Curator of Basingstoke Museum, for his courtesy and assist ance in affording access to the collection for the purposes of this study, which is part of a broader work on the Romano-British rural system.2 The area from which the bulk of the collection comes is limited on the north by the edge of the London Clay between Kingsclere and Odiham ; its east boundary is approximately that, of the east limit of the Eastern Hampshire High Chalk Region' southward to Alton. The south boundary crosses that region through Wilvelrod, Brown Candover and Micheldever, with outlying sites to the south at Micheldever Wood and Lanham Down (between Bighton and Wield). The western limit, equally arbitrary, falls along the line from Micheldever through Overton to Kingsclere. -

Watercress Barn, a former agricultural building historically might have formed part of the Tyntesfield Estate but given the substantial separation distance to the main estate there is virtually no tangible relationship and limited visual connection with the Registered Park and Garden. Greenham and Crookham Plataeu Encompasses the whole plateau from Brimpton to Greenham and the slopes along the Kennet Valley in the north and the River Enborne in the south and east. Includes some riverside land along the Enborne in the south, where the River forms the boundary. Extends west to include a group of woodlands at Sandleford. Joint Character Area: Thames Basin Heaths Geology: The plateau has a large area of Silchester Gravel the overlies London Clay Sand (Bagshot Beds) which is found in a band at the edge of the Gravel. There are also some areas of Head at the edge of the top of the plateau. The slopes are London Clay Formation clay, silt and sand. There is alluvium along the Enborne Valley. The western section has a similar geology with Silchester Gravel, London Clay Sand ad London Clay Formation. Topography: a flat plateau that slopes away to river valleys in the north, south and east. The western area is the south facing slope at the edge of the plateau as it extends westwards into the developed land at Wash Common. Biodiversity: · Heathland and acid grassland: Extensive heathland and acid grassland areas at Greenham Common with small areas at Bowdown Woods and remnants at the mainly wooded Crookham Common and at Greenham Golf Course. · Lowland Mixed Deciduous Woodland: Extensive areas on the plateau slopes. Bowdown Woods and the areas within Greenham Common SSSI. · Wet Woodland: found in the gullies on the slopes at the plateau edge. · Other habitat and species: farmland near Brimpton supports good populations of farmland birds. -

It is so true for local village amenities and services. Over the years many shops, for example, have come and gone. Years ago Kingsclere had a bak- ery, ironmonger and quite a few more pubs than now. But custom de- clined and they disappeared. It's important to 'shop local' or we will find the option to do so is gone. Online shopping is helpful, but it's no good if you are in the middle of cooking and need an ingredient, or feel ill and need some medi- cine now, or professional advice on medications (see page 10 for a notice from our local chemist). Regularly shopping locally will make sure we have these last minute and emergency options available.
