Mustafa Erdil 23 JULY 2016 Signature: ABSTRACT The aim and objective of this study is to highlight the importance of and the status of hadith in Islam, as well as its relevance and reference to sunnah, the Prophetic tradition and all that this integral source of reference holds in Islam. Furthermore, hadith, in its nature, origin and historical development with its close relationship with the concept of memorisation and later recollection came about after the time of Prophet Muhammad. This study will thus explore the reasons behind the prohibition, in its initial stage, with the authorisation of recording the hadiths and its writing at another time. The private pages of hadith recordings kept by the companions will be sourced and explored as to how these pages served as prototypes for hadith compilations of later generations. -

Ziadeh Distinguished Lecture in Arab and Islamic Studies, “How Ecumenical Was Early Islam?” delivered by Fred M. Donner on April 29, 2013. The Ziadeh Fund was formally endowed in 2001. Since that time, with your support, it has allowed us to strengthen our educational reach and showcase the most outstanding scholarship in Arab and Islamic Studies, and to do so always in honor of our dear colleague Farhat Ziadeh, whose contributions to the fields of Islamic law, Arabic language, and Islamic Studies are truly unparalleled. Farhat J. Ziadeh was born in Ramallah, Palestine, in 1917. He received his B.A. from the American University of Beirut in 1937 and his LL.B. from the University of London in 1940. He then attended Lincoln’s Inn, London, where he became a Barrister-at-Law in 1946. In the final years of the British Mandate, he served as a Magistrate for the Government of Palestine before eventually moving with his family to the United States. He was appointed Professor of Arabic and Islamic Law at Princeton University, where he taught until 1966, at which time he moved to the University of Washington. The annual lectureship in his name is a fitting tribute to his international reputation and his national service to the discipline of Arabic and Islam- ic Studies. -
Constitution of Medina " Some Notes
THE " CONSTITUTION OF MEDINA " SOME NOTES The document known as the "Constitution of Medina" (1) has been studied by western scholars among whom was already J. Wellhausen who analyzed and divided the document into articles. His division was adopted by Wensinck, Watt and others, and it is also followed in the present study (2). There are, however, certain problems in the "Constitution" which seem to remain unsolved. In the present paper an attempt is made at elucidating some of these problems (3). 1. "The Jews of Banfr so-and-so" One of the main objects of the "Constitution" was to deter- mine the relations between the Muslims and the Jews of Medina within the framework of a new kind of unity. But whereas the identity of the Muslims who are dealt with in articles 2 - 10 of the document is fairly clear, the Jews who are treated in I) See Ibn Hisham, 11,147-150. This is the version of Ibn lshaq (d. 150H1767) which is also reproduced in Ibn Sayyid al-Nas,I, 197-198; Ibn Kathir , Bidiiya, 111,224-226. Another version, that of al-Zuhri (d. 124HI742), has been recorded in Abfl 'Ubayd , 290-294. For an English translation of the document see Wensinck , 51 ff. ; Watt, 221 rr. ; Serjeant, II, 18 rr. 2) Serjeant, who completely ignored Wellhausen's study, cut the "Constitution" into no less than 8 separate "documents" in what seems to be a highly arbitrary manner. 3) The Arabic text of the passages studied below is provided in the appendix. 6 URI RUBIN articles 25 -30, 46 are less easy to identify. -

It opened in 2001 and it is situated within a mosque complex in the London Borough of Hounslow. It serves the local community of mainly Bangladeshi, Moroccan, Pakistani and Somali heritages. At the time of the inspection, there was one pupil with a statement of educational need and the majority of pupils were either bilingual or at advanced stages of learning English as an additional language. The school seeks to teach all subjects of the National Curriculum, as well as Arabic, Islamic and Qur’anic studies. -

This is the place where the Companions used to stay who had no home, and who used to recite the Holy Quran daily and benefit from the companionship of the Holy Prophet. Hazrat Abu Huraira is one of the prominent students of this seminary. The number of Ashab e sufah companions used to be more or less, sometimes their number would reach up to eighty. The number of Ashab e suffah kept increasing and decreasing and their number has reached four hundred. But at one time their number did not exceed four hundred and there was no room for it. There are some educational pages of the golden chapter of the history of Islam which start with the companions of Ashab e Suffah these chapters teach them the book (Qur'an) and wisdom (Sunnah). Some of them sometimes brought wood from the forest for sale and made a living at some point in the day. Among them, ancient narrators have written permanent books. -

By using historical method or historiography, the study is aimed at exploring of the relationship between sciences and libraries in the Islamic world. The study found that historically, the development of sciences in the golden age of Islam was followed by the growth of libraries. Islamic libraries have significant roles in the scholarly tradition and sciences development. Libraries have played its roles in knowledge production, transmission, and preservation. Islamic libraries were not only a place to store knowledge but also a center for knowledge studies. Hyderabad-32, 9849494608, [email protected] Introduction As we refer to Perspective of Teacher Education and Value Education in Islamic literature, we invariably stop on the Ashabe Suffa. Suffah is a raised platform of Education occupied by the poor companions of the Prophet; these companions are called Ashabe Suffah (House Holder of the raise platform). Ashabe Suffa is “The Ashab us-Suffah were companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) who, along with the performance of religious duties, were mostly tradesmen or farmers. Some had, however, dedicated their lives exclusively for prayer and spiritual discipline in the close company of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him). The precise number of the Ashab us-Suffah is not known, but it is estimated that the suffah could hold up to three hundred people at any one time, and that roughly seventy people made up its’ permanent residents. The initial inhabitants of the suffah were members who had migrated from Makkah and were without any accommodation.” The Prophet came at Suffah (the platform that housed the Ashab us-Suffah) to teach and explain the salient features of the religion. People used to come there after undertaking a long journey to learn about Islam also. -
Masjid-E-Nabwi
Masjid-e-Nabwi Masjid-e-Nabwi is the masjid (mosque) established by the Prophet Muhammad ( ) upon his migration to Madinah. It is the second most revered masjid in Islam and the second largest in the world, after Masjid al-Haram in Makkah. When the Prophet ( ) migrated to Madinah (then called Yathrib), the chiefs of the city and his immediate followers rode around his camel in their best clothes and in glittering armour. Everyone was hoping he would stop by their house. The Prophet ( ) would answer everyone politely and kindly, “[This camel] is commanded by Allah; wherever it stops, that will be my home.” The camel moved on with slackened reins, reaching the site of the present masjid and knelt down. The Prophet ( ) alighted and said, “This is the home” and inquired as to who owned the land. The land contained a few date trees, graves of polytheists, a resting spot for herds of cattle and was owned by two orphan brothers, Sahl and Suhail. The Prophet ( ) purchased the land, had the trees cleared and the polytheists graves dug up and levelled. He then gave orders that his newly acquired courtyard should be made into a masjid and work began immediately. Most of the building was done by bricks made of stones and kneaded clay but in the middle of the northern wall (which faced the original Qiblah in Jerusalem), stones were put on either side of the prayer niche. The palm trees in the courtyard were cut down and their trunks were used as pillars to support the roof of palm branches, but the greater part of the courtyard was left open. -

The Medina Charter Written by Administrator Wednesday, 02 September 2009 19:21 The first Islamic state was founded not in the shadow of swords, as is commonly believed in some circles, but in the security of a social contract, called the Constitution of Medina. By all counts, the Medina Constitution lit the torch of freedom by establishing a Free State for a pluralistic community composed of Muslims, Jews, and pagans. This unprecedented Free State, the first of its kind in the intellectual and political history of human civilization, was founded by none other than Prophet Muhammad himself in the Gregorian year of 622, that is, more than thirteen hundred years before the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) envisaged a modern pluralistic, religiously tolerant Free State- Prof. Ali Khan, Professor of Law, Washburn University. The Constitution of Medina sets out in general terms the rights of various classes of citizens, their duties to each other, and the manner in which disputes would be resolved. A small number of the people of Yathrib were already Muslims, having converted during the period when Muhammad (SAW) and his followers were being persecuted in Mecca. The rest of the people of Yathrib were non-Muslims, either pagans or Jews. The pact signaled these peoples' voluntary agreement to be ruled by Islamic law. They hoped that by having this external, objective source of laws, the strife that was tearing their community apart would be healed. The Jews in Medina were a minority group. They were clients of the two major Arab tribes, some on one side of the dispute and some on the other.
