We accept most major credit cards. MIN BID AUCTION A CHUBBY CHECKER YOU JUST DON’T KNOW UK CAMEO M- 650 (WHAT YOU DO TO ME) PARKWAY 965 Starting off with a lovely British minter, in fact for the first 5 years of this disc being known to the scene it was thought to be UK – only, before, in 1977, my business partner Mr Martin Kop found the first U.S. copy. B SIR JOE NOBODY BEATS MY LOVE / RU-JAC 2463 M- 2000 IF YOU GIVE UP YOUR LOVE One of the first records for funk specialist Sir Joe Quaterman and this is a long way from any kind of funk being a TOP RATE double-sided stomper – one of a dying breed in fact i.e. a relatively recently discovered sixties gem on original vinyl. ‘Nobody’ seems to have been the preferred spinning side but were not sure the flipside, ‘If You Give Up Your Love’ isn’t actually better. We’ve included both sides on the soundbite for you to decide. C PAULETTE LOVE YOU BABE CONTACT 4058 VG+ 1000 For sure one of the very rarest Chicago soul releases and an infectious dancer sure to fill the dancefloor even in the ‘oldies’ venues. Methinks the pressing quality has contributed to the rarity of this one with most of the handful of known copies being slightly off-centre. This one is hardly so as the soundbite proves, not a minter but plays well despite wear. Have a listen. D THE HYPERIONS WHY YOU WANNA TREAT ME CHATTAHOOCH VG++ 780 LIKE YOU DO EE 669 Very strong VG++ on this desirable group mover is almost mint minus. Out of Los Angeles on a label that produced over 80 releases including one by the Anglo-Americans! Most of the releases were pop/Hispanic but some fine soul escaped as well such as this disc. E LITTLE TOMMY BABY CAN’T YOU SEE SOUND OF M- 726 SOUL 1048 Back in ’76 when this 45 had failed at Cleethorpes, Ginger sold it to me for a fiver! Over 40 years on its difficult to imagine how such a great piece of Northern Soul could have emptied dancefloors, it has stood the litmus test as a rarity too. A perfect mint copy incidentally – almost impossible to believe it is 50 years old. F HOLLYWOOD FLAMES DANCE SENORITA SYMBOL 211 VG++ 250 One of the rarest records on the whole Sue/Symbol/Eastern set-up owned by Juggy Murray. After a huge doo-wop career the group relocated to New York from the west coast and came up with just a handful of soul 45s, all of which are well worth owning and particularly this one from 1965. G BRICE COEFIELD AIN’T THAT RIGHT OMEN 10 WD M- 355 A very nice copy of this Northern classic but with a one-second cue burn on intro – a lesson to all deejays not to wind records back when cueing up. It is literally a second, however, but best to check the soundbite. H THE FOUR PRO’S JUST ANOTHER GIRL CARLA 2531 WD M- 150 And in comes Mike Terry on sax! Fabulous Detroit dancer quite rightly revived in recent years. This is a vinyl promo (rather than styrene) and someone by the name of Fred has decided to sign the official A-side ‘There Must Be A Reason’ (also a good side) so we’ve scanned that one too. I TINA ROBERTS ONE WAY OR THE OTHER SECURITY 1366 M- 700 Superbly crafted Northern pounder has always been RARE, RARE, RARE and is offered here in almost new condition (amazingly). Seemingly Tina was one of the Leverett Sisters who had a release on the associated Holton record label. Tina’s other record on this label isn’t a patch on this one but and not really hard to find at all. Records eh? J EDWARD HAMILTON CALL ME CARRIE 6502 M- 200 The original, sixties, orange label for this Detroit gem which, for our money, is at least the equal of ‘Baby Don’t You Weep’ and ‘I’m Gonna Love You’. In fact, the latter track is on the flip of this one. But for some reason has the ‘whiplashes’ virtually removed (as does the Jameco release). K THE CONQUISTADORS CAN’T STOP LOVING YOU ACT IV 4-13 M- 350 An extremely scarce Chicago soul 45 – only our second-ever copy, problem is that although the vinyl is virtually perfect the label details are virtually illegible. We can therefore also offer a scanned label to attach to both sides if this swings it for you. L TIMOTHY CARR GOT NO TIME IMAPACT SOUND M- 1000 ACETATE ORIGINAL acetate for this stormin’ sixties mover. This version of the tune is a different take to the one used on CD and even a dub of it once changed hands for significant money. NEW CANNONBALL 45 RELEASE! After the success earlier this year from the Italian boys, in the name of ‘Big Lee Dowell’, here is the latest 45 to be released – JONES & GASTON AND THE CANNONBALLS – ‘Do You Get The Message’. (A version of The Grey Imprint track). LIMITED STOCK - £25.00 PLUS £2.00 UK Post, £4.00 EUROPE, £5 REST OF WORLD. THIRD PAGE FOCUS 1 DOROTHY MAMA LOVES HER CHILDREN GRC 2009 M- 10 NORWOOD One fantastic soul record from ’74. Gospel-tinged modern with a funky edge. Quite brilliant. 2 PAULINE SHIVERS YOU BETTER TELL HIM NO O-PEX 110 M- 20 Slightly the rarer of her two 45’s on this label and a great bongo-driven mover. 3 J.J. BARNES DEEPER IN LOVE RIC-TIC 117 M- 8 Somewhat under-recognised against his other Ric-Tics – but equally great! 4 LITTLE EVA SOMETHING ABOUT YOU SPRING 107 M- 10 Forget the artist this is a solid soul mover (on both sides) from ’71. 5 JIMMY ROBINS I CAN’T PLEASE YOU JERHART 207 M- 15 Still only running in at £15? Ridiculous for one of Northern Soul’s finest. 6 TOMMY HUNT I’LL MAKE YOU HAPPY CAPITOL 5621 M- 25 Fantastic beat ballad, up there with his very best sixties material. 7 JOHNSON, HAWKINS, YOUR LOVE KEEPS CAPSOUL 27552 M- 15 TATUM & DURR DRAWING ME CLOSER Same as the Chandlers on Bleu Soul – at a fraction of the price. 8 BILLY MCGREGOR FALL ON MY KNEES FLASH 6601 M- 25 Fabulous hard-edged Chicago soul from 66. 9 LITTLE DOOLEY MEMORIES NORTH BAY 308 M- 10 Two fantastic seventies siders. 10 BOBBY WOMACK BROADWAY WALK MINIT 32030 M- 15 Hard-edged, gritty hard-driving soul dancer. Blues, as a musical form, has had and continues to have a profound effect on the entire music industry, both in the United States and abroad. Blues constitute a rich cultural entity in its pure form; but its influence goes far beyond this-for itis the bedrock of jazz, the basis of much of folk and country music and it is closely akin to gospel. But finally and most importantly, blues and its derivatives- and the concept of soul-are major factors in today's pop music. In fact, it is no exaggeration to state flatly that blues, a truly American idiom, is the most pervasive element in American music COVER PHOTO today. Ray Charles symbolizes the World Therefore we have embarked on this study of blues.
