NEW FINISHING TIME!!! As my mother says I always think of other people so..... We now have a later finish time for those hard workers amongst you that perhaps cannot participate in the middle of the afternoon. And then there’s the Friday to get quick payments despatched. You might have heard of the landscaper ‘Capability’ Brown, now meet ‘Consideration’ Brown. Ta! Reservations 9.30 am – 4.45 pm weekdays only Postage and packing £2.00 for 1st disc then 50p per record. Please add £1.00 for recorded delivery. Special Delivery is £8.00. Europe £5.00 for 1st record ( 50p each additional record ) USA £6.00 (approx $9 US ) for 1st record ( then 50p per record) Rest Of The World £6.00 for 1st record (then 50p per record). We accept most major credit cards. MIN BID AUCTION A GEORGOUS GEORGE GET UP OFF IT PEACHTREE 622 VG 500 The rarest record on the label, only our second-ever copy. Yes, there’s the Eddie Billups, the 4 Dynamics, Jimmy Church, but we would say this is the hardest of the lot. It’s a beaten-up copy so check the soundbite, but you might not ever see it for sale again. B JOHNNY SAYLES I CAN’T GET ENOUGH ST LAWRENCE 1024 D VG++ 250 One of the greatest ever-imagine making a record like this and finding that it sold less copies than bacon sandwiches at a Bar Mitzvah! The original 45 is getting tricky in any case..... But surely a promo is the one to have. C LADA EDMUND JR THE LARUE DECCA 32007 D M- 200 A Shrine record in all but label and Eddie Singleton (the producer) told me that on THIS side (but not the flip) he drafted another, black, singer in because the famed white go-go dancer from Hullabaloe couldn’t really sing. Thank goodness he did! Her name is pronounced ‘Layda’ by the way. D THE PETER HAMILTON HEY GIRL JAMIE 1338 WD M- 200 GENERATION Now here’s one that doesn’t turn up much at all if you think about it. The instrumental side was covered as ‘Doni Burdick’ and also used as the backing for ian Levine’s Venetia Wilson 45. The vocal is pretty blue-eyed but quite frankly is no worse than Billy Arnell, Tony Galla etc and has never been played out really. E PATTI & THE EMBLEMS I’M GONNA LOVE YOU A KAPP 897 D VG++ 150 LONG LONG TIME Another one to check out on the soundbite due to some wear and tear but it doesn’t sound bad at all, plus, whenever the we set-sale this title the calls are many and profuse.... so it’s a definite opportunity. F LEON HAYWOOD BABY RECONSIDER FATFISH 8011 M- 350 WD Most of the early Twisted Wheel-era import 45s are not too rare, it’s not surprising because by and large, the records on the surface were found first. An exception is this stormer which has always been a tough one to locate. A three-second cue burn means you should check the soundbite. G HERB WARD STRANGE CHANGE ARGO 5510 D M- 350 Finger snapping Harthon production from Philadelphia circa 1965 is astoundingly rare given the label that it’s on and was amongst the records spun by Richard Searling in the later Casino era that restored some soul credibility after a particularly bad patch (1978). H DAVID AND RUBEN I LOVE HER SO MUCH IT RAMPART 662 WD M- 250 HURTS ME David and Ruben Robles together with their brother Arthur were the Majestics and although this release is a few years later than the one on Linda it is a clearer mix. Ralph Ventura’s Mariachi group provided the backing and therefore those great trumpets. I FLORENCE DEVORE KISS ME NOW (DON’T PHI-DAN 5000 WD M- 150 KISS ME LATER) This great girly mover an auction item? Well on a WHITE promo we would say ‘yes’. Virtually every promo is on the familiar black label as per issue copies. This is a tough one. J HERB JOHNSON CARFARE BACK ARCTIC 109 M- 500 Up there with the very rarest ones on this legendary label and has a rather different feel to many of the others on this label with a much more solid production. Ideal for the deejay who wants something rather different that most of all the others don’t have. SECOND PAGE FOCUS 1 MAD DOG & THE BRING IT TO THE LIGHT MAGIC CITY 018 M- 15 PUPS Super 70’s floater, best described as ‘Crossover’ these days. 2 THE C.O.D.S I’M A GOOD GUY KELLMAC 1005 M- 15 Careering good time mover simply murders ‘She’s Fire’. 3 JACKIE WILSON WHAT’CHA GONNA DO BRUNSWICK M- 15 ABOUT LOVE 55490 Yet another winner, from the great singer on this occasion - a modern mover. 4 MARGO THUNDER THE SOUL OF A WOMAN CAPITOL 7001 M- 10 Lovely, lilty Highland room monster as a new release in ’74. 5 REVELATION GET READY FOR THIS RSO 512 WD M- 15 Vocal to the Brother’s monster spin – nice promo copies. 6 MIKE JEMISON I WANT SOME SATISFACTION GeNEVA 506 M- 15 Fantastic 1973 Detroit – right in between 60s and 70s with elements of both eras. 7 KING SOLOMONS THE TIGHT ROPE GHETTO 001 M- 20 ADVISERS Into the new style of funky Northern? Then don’t miss this one. 8 THE REFLECTIONS TALKIN’ ABOUT MY GIRL GOLDEN M- 8 WORLD 15 WD Midtempo Detroit from the pens of Wylie, Gorman Hamilton. Sounds like their finest 45 these days. Nice White promo copies. 9 MITTY COLLIER I CAN’T LOSE PEACHTREE M- 15 121 Powerhouse Southern pounder with a funky edge and a dynamite vocalist of course. 10 BILL PINKNEY DON’T CALL ME FONTANA 1956 M- 15 A James Brown production but certainly not funky, great midpacer spun at Stafford. Blues, as a musical form, has had and continues to have a profound effect on the entire music industry, both in the United States and abroad. Blues constitute a rich cultural entity in its pure form; but its influence goes far beyond this-for itis the bedrock of jazz, the basis of much of folk and country music and it is closely akin to gospel. But finally and most importantly, blues and its derivatives- and the concept of soul-are major factors in today's pop music. In fact, it is no exaggeration to state flatly that blues, a truly American idiom, is the most pervasive element in American music COVER PHOTO today.
