Wildwood Recreation Site is a popular location that encompasses 550 acres of beautiful land forested with old growth Douglas Fir, Western Hemlock, and Western Red Cedar along the Salmon River. This day-use area is home to a wide range of recreation facilities where visitors of all ages and abilities have a chance to explore natural stream and wetland ecosystems along accessible interpretive trails and boardwalks and observe native fish in a unique, underwater fish viewing chamber.

The area is home of the original Hood to Coast Relay Race that starts at the Historic Timberline Lodge and finishes in Seaside, Oregon. The annual Hood to Coast Relay is an overnight, long-distance relay race that is the largest running and walking relay in the world. The Department:

Governed by a five-member elected Board of Directors, the Hoodland Fire District (HFD) is a fire and emergency services agency organized as a rural fire protection district under Oregon state law. HFD is an all hazards fire department and responds to structural and wildland fires, rescues, motor vehicle crashes, emergency medical calls, hazardous materials, and miscellaneous aid calls. The District encompasses an area of 45 square miles between Sandy and Mount Hood and serves 6,000 year round residents and 20,000 seasonally. The area served by HFD contains a mix of residential, commercial, and a significant amount of rural/recreational areas. Operating with 14 FTE’s on an annual budget of roughly $4.5 million, the District provides these services from three stations, one of which is staffed 24 hours per day with full-time personnel and two of which are staffed by volunteer firefighters.

Working under the general direction and reporting to the Fire Chief, the Deputy Chief will organize, control, and direct activities of the Fire District including fire suppression/emergency services, emergency medical services, training, and code enforcement. Will perform highly responsible and professional administrative, supervisory, and technical work associated with planning, budgeting, coordinating, and directing all department personnel, training, apparatus and equipment. Responsible for the proper and efficient management of personnel, stations, apparatus, equipment, and other Fire Department resources to minimize fire loss and life in the community through aggressive fire prevention, training, education, emergency medical services and emergency operations and response.
