Meeting for Borgward, Goliath, Hansa and Lloyd enthusiasts. 19u30 Group dinner with live music and dance (drinks not included) This year we chose Grobbendonk for our annual meeting, a small town in the heart of Sunday 24 May the Province of Antwerp and the Belgian Kempen, with a visit to Lier and a tour through 10u00 Short trip to the Abarth Museum in Lier. a region that is called “The Kempen”. 13u00 Lunch (Aldhem chicken salad) at the hotel. 15u00 Closure of the meeting. Lier is a small city, some 20Km from Grobbendonk, to the southeast of Antwerp, and has about 34.000 inhabitants. It’s located where the Grote Nete and the Kleine Nete flow General Information together. Lier is also called the gate to the Kempen and is known for it’s belfrye, it’s beguinage (both are considered as Unesco Heritage) and the Zimmer tower. Lier is well known for it’s entertainment and the inhabitants carry the nickname “Lierke Plezierke” (Pleasant Optional : little Lier) proudly. Stratigraphic analysis of cored and geophysically logged boreholes in the Kasterlee-Geel-Retie-Mol-Dessel area of the Belgian Campine has established the presence of two lithostratigraphic units between the classical Diest and Mol Formations, geometrically related to the type Kasterlee Sand occurring west of the Kasterlee village and the study area. A lower ‘clayey Kasterlee’ unit, equivalent to the lithology occurring at the top of the Beerzel and Heist-op-den-Berg hills, systematically occurs to the east of the Kasterlee village. An overlying unit has a pale colour making it lithostratigraphically comparable to Mol Sand although its fine grain size, traces of glauconite and geometrical position have traditionally led stratigraphers to consider it as a lateral variety of the type Kasterlee Sand; it has been named the ‘lower Mol’ or ‘Kasterlee-sensu-Gulinck’ unit in this study.
