The difference between these destinations and the traditional shopping mall is the experience gained when leaving the destination. As a solution, several cities have considered Urban Entertainment Destinations as a developmental means for revitalizing the downtown. This thesis design project attempts to explore the significance of UED’s by conducting a literature review and case study analysis of nine UED’s across the United States. Studies extracted from each module revealed the importance of six key strategies- Placemaking, Multi- Anchoring, Contextual Links, Critical Mix & Mass, Programmability, and Branded Identity. Particular attention was placed on placemaking; designing gathering spaces, pathways, material choices, spatial relationships, and programmed land use. An emphasis has been made on incorporating the history and culture and the site’s sense of place, two placemaking components that help create a distinct destination.

    G Historic and Cultural Resources Appendix G – Historic and Cultural Resources G.1 Inventory of Historic Resources This appendix provides an inventory of historical resources identified and evaluated as part of the Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Washington, D.C. Optimization of Airspace Procedures in the Metroplex (DC OAPM) project. G.1.1 Inventory The inventory of historic resources includes all properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places (National Register) located within the General Study Area. Spatial data for these properties was downloaded from the National Park Service website (nrhp.focus.nps.gov/natreg/docs/Download.htm) in August 2012. This database was augmented in February 2013 with additional data reflecting newly listed properties on the National Register. G.1.2 Consultation On December 13, 2012, early notification letters announcing the preparation of an EA for the DC OAPM project and requesting additional information relevant to the project were distributed to relevant public officials, including the State Historic Preservation Officers (SHPOs) for the states located within the General Study Area and 17 Native American tribes. Responses were received from the following agencies: Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, Bureau of Historic Preservation Maryland Historical Trust West Virginia Division of Culture and History Virginia Department of Historic Resources The response letters are included in Appendix A. G.1.3 Noise Exposure at Historic Sites Table G-1 identifies the 2,690 historic resources identified within the General Study Area and for which noise was modeled.
