RELEASE NUMBER 2 (September 6, 2021) FOX (National) | KOA-RADIO | CUBUFFS.COM (Live Stats) BUFFALO BITS … The Colorado Buffaloes (1-0, 0-0 Pac-12) will host the No. 6 (AP, Coaches) 1979 and Georgia in 2010 (CU lost to the Tigers but beat the Bulldogs) ... CU won Texas A&M Aggies (1-0, 0-0 SEC) at Empower Field at Mile High this Saturday its sixth straight season opener with a 35-7 win over FCS/Big Sky Northern in a 1:31 p.m. MDT kickoff with FOX Sports on hand to televise to a national Colorado on Sept. 3, the school’s first lid-lifter in Boulder since 2009, not audience ... Oddsmakers have installed the Aggies as a 17-point favorite at the counting last year’s pandemic adjusted schedule; the Buffs methodically pulled start of the week ... The NCAA classifies it as a neutral site game, despite it being way for the victory after a scoreless first quarter ... Texas A&M did the same in its just 25 miles down the road in Denver, where the Buffaloes are 55-35-3 all-time 41-10 win over Kent State; the Aggies led 10-3 at halftime and then scored 17 (26-11-1 against teams not based in Denver, mostly Colorado State and Colorado points in the third quarter ... The 11 FBS opponents on the 2021 Colorado Mines; see list on page 9) ... CU has played 25 games to date in seven current schedule combined for a 39-33 record in the COVID-19 shortened 2020 NFL venues, owning a record of 16-9 (12-4 in Denver), and is 21-21-1 all-time season (a 54.2 winning percentage); With most teams returning many players in 43 games in pro venues ... As in Colorado has played 93 games in Denver with a record of 55-35-3, but the last 19 were against Colorado State in the Rocky Mountain Showdown (1998- 2019); the last game in Denver prior had been against the University of Denver in 1947. That game on Nov. 27 of that year was the final conference game for the Buffaloes in the Mountain States Conference (also called the Skyline League); DU won 26-20, as Colorado was off to join the Big Seven Conference in 1948. Denver was a regular Thanksgiving opponent for CU, as many of the 44 games in the series came on Turkey Day; the two never played again and DU dropped the sport in 1961. OBSCURE NOTE(S) OF THE WEEK Becker Makes History. When Cole Becker trotted on to the field to try (and make) CU’s first PAT kick of the season last Friday night in the 35-7 win over Northern Colorado, he became just the fifth true freshman placekicker in school history to score at least one point in a Buff season opener. He joined Tom Field (1979 vs. Oregon), Mason Crosby (2003 vs. Colorado State), Will Oliver (2011 at Hawaii) and James Stefanou (2017 vs. Colorado State). He was bidding to tie the second-longest first career field goal made (53 yards), but the kick came up just short and hit the crossbar. Broussard Back-to-Back. TB Jarek Broussard scored CU’s first points of the year the last the two seasons; when Bobby Anderson did the same in 1967-68 (the fifth to do so twice in school history), it didn’t occur again until WR Roman Hollowell scored on a TD reception in 1999 and then on a punt return in 2001. Since, it’s become common place: TB Bobby Purify (2003-04), PK Mason Crosby (2005-06), WR Scotty McKnight (2007-08), WR Paul Richardson (2011-13) and WR Nelson Spruce (2012, 2014).
