Prior to this season, the Buffaloes never had more than two players on the roster with 100 grabs. See additional notes on this on page 9. OBSCURE NOTE OF THE WEEK Colorado is one of the top teams in the nation when its come to red zone defense this season. The opponent has made 13 trips inside-the-20 against CU, and while coming away with 10 scores, five have been field goals. So overall, the Buffs are tied for 40th in allowing scores 76.9 percent of the time, but when it comes to allowing touchdowns, the Buffs have allowed just five, or 38.5 percent; for teams that have allowed 10 or more penetrations of the red zone, that’s second only to Houston (33.3, 4 TDs in 12 trips). In addition, the Buffs are sixth in allowing just 1 passing score in the zone (Air Force, Buffalo, CSU, Utah State and Vanderbilt are the five who have allowed none). And once in the red zone, opponent have run 37 plays for a net 64 yards (1.7 per), and are just 3- of-10 on third down. 2017 COLORADO SCHEDULE & RESULTS (3-2, 0-2 Pac-12) 2017 Date CU* Opponent Opp* TV Result/Time Record Series This-N-That or ’16 rewind Sept. 1 RV Colorado State (N; Denver) NR PAC12 W 17- 3 3-2 65-22-2 Buffs go up 17-0 early, play first scoreless second half in eight seasons SEPT. 9 RV TEXAS STATE NR PAC12 W 37- 3 1-4 1- 0-0 Second straight game not allowing a TD a first to open a season since 1958 SEPT. 16 RV NORTHERN COLORADO NR PAC12 W 41-21 2-2 10- 2-0 CU wins first meeting with former in-state rival since 1934 game in Greeley SEPT. 23 RV WASHINGTON (N) 7 FS-1 L 10-37 5-0 5-11-1 Game plays out eerily similar to ’16 Pac-12 title game, as UW pulls away in 3Q Sept. 30 RV at UCLA NR ESPN2 L 23-27 3-2 3-10-0 Fourth straight tight game between the two (the four decided by 21 points) OCT. 7 NR ARIZONA (FW) NR PAC12 6:07 pm 2-2 14- 5-0 A 28-0 run over 20-minute span jumps score from 14-10 to 42-10 late in 3rd Qtr Oct. 14 at Oregon State PAC12 2:00 pm 1-4 4- 5-0 Largest margin of victory in a league game in 24 years; best start (4-1) since ’05 Oct. 21 at Washington State TBA TBA 5-0 6- 4-0 Liufau rolls up 453 total yards as CU outscores WSU 17-0 over final 16 minutes OCT. 28 CALIFORNIA (HC) TBA TBA 3-2 3- 5-0 Last meeting in 2014 a wild one: Cal rallies for 59-56 win in 2OT in Berkeley Nov. 4 at Arizona State TBA TBA 2-3 1- 7-0 Buffs finally break through against Sun Devils, rush for 315 yards and 5 TDs NOV. 11 SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TBA TBA 4-1 0-11-0 USC leads 14-0 at half, CU ties game in fourth but Trojans fend off comeback Nov. 25 at Utah TBA TBA 4-0 32-28-3 Win clinches Pac-12 South title; last six games in series decided by 32 points Dec. 1 Pac-12 Championship Game (N) ESPN at Santa Clara, Calif.
