As in Colorado has played 93 games in Denver with a record of 55-35-3, but the last 19 were against Colorado State in the Rocky Mountain Showdown (1998- 2019); the last game in Denver prior had been against the University of Denver in 1947. That game on Nov. 27 of that year was the final conference game for the Buffaloes in the Mountain States Conference (also called the Skyline League); DU won 26-20, as Colorado was off to join the Big Seven Conference in 1948. Denver was a regular Thanksgiving opponent for CU, as many of the 44 games in the series came on Turkey Day; the two never played again and DU dropped the sport in 1961. OBSCURE NOTE(S) OF THE WEEK Becker Makes History. When Cole Becker trotted on to the field to try (and make) CU’s first PAT kick of the season last Friday night in the 35-7 win over Northern Colorado, he became just the fifth true freshman placekicker in school history to score at least one point in a Buff season opener. He joined Tom Field (1979 vs. Oregon), Mason Crosby (2003 vs. Colorado State), Will Oliver (2011 at Hawaii) and James Stefanou (2017 vs. Colorado State). He was bidding to tie the second-longest first career field goal made (53 yards), but the kick came up just short and hit the crossbar. Broussard Back-to-Back. TB Jarek Broussard scored CU’s first points of the year the last the two seasons; when Bobby Anderson did the same in 1967-68 (the fifth to do so twice in school history), it didn’t occur again until WR Roman Hollowell scored on a TD reception in 1999 and then on a punt return in 2001. Since, it’s become common place: TB Bobby Purify (2003-04), PK Mason Crosby (2005-06), WR Scotty McKnight (2007-08), WR Paul Richardson (2011-13) and WR Nelson Spruce (2012, 2014). No played has scored CU’s first points of a season three times. 2021 COLORADO SCHEDULE & RESULTS (1-0, 0-0 Pac-12) Date CU* Opponent Opp* TV Result/Time Record Series This-N-That or ’20 rewind SEPT. 3 --- NORTHERN COLORADO (N) --- Pac12 W 35- 7 0-1 11- 2-0 Five different players score TDs as Buffs pull away in second half Sept. 11 Texas A&M (Denver) 6 FOX 1:31p 1-0 6- 3-0 Last played in 2009 when both were in the Big 12 (CU, 35-34 in Boulder) SEPT. 18 MINNESOTA Pac12 11:00a 0-1 3- 0-0 First of home-and-home; last meeting in 1992 at Minneapolis (CU, 21-20) Sept. 25 at Arizona State (N) TBA TBA 1-0 3- 8-0 ’20 game cancelled on 11/15 due to COVID-19 issues in the Sun Devil program OCT. 2 SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TBA TBA 1-0 0-14-0 ’20 game cancelled on 11/26 due to COVID-19 issues in the Trojan program OCT. 16 ARIZONA (FW) TBA TBA 0-1 15- 8-0 Broussard (301 yards) and Buffs (407) run wild, rally from 13-0 down in 2nd Qtr Oct. 23 at California TBA TBA 0-1 4- 6-0 Only the sixth time in 11 years the two will meet with CU as a Pac-12 member Oct. 30 at Oregon TBA TBA 1-0 9-13-0 ’20 game cancelled on 12/14 when UO had to replace UW in P12 title game NOV. 6 OREGON STATE (HC) TBA TBA 0-1 5- 6-0 OSU rallied from down 31-3 to win 41-34 in OT in last meeting (2018 at Folsom Nov. 13 at UCLA TBA TBA 2-0 5-11-0 Buffs roll to 35-7 second quarter lead and hang on; Broussard has record night NOV. 20 WASHINGTON TBA TBA 0-1 6-12-1 CU’s 20-14 win in Boulder snapped UW’s 9-game winning streak in series Nov. 26 at Utah FOX/FS-1 TBA 1-0 32-32-3 Buffs led 21-10, Utes score last 28 in game; series tied for first time since ’52 Dec. 3 Pac-12 Championship Game ABC 6:00p at Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas, Nev.
