This study shows how forest regrowth affects beetle species associated with old oaks in south-eastern Sweden. Beetles were trapped by pitfall traps placed in hollows and window traps placed near hollows in oak trunks in pasture woodlands. We assessed the influence of forest regrowth, tree size and original canopy cover on the species richness of saproxylic beetles (a total of 120 species identified) and the occurrence of 68 saproxylic beetle species in particular. -

Na druhé stran však dochází sou asn k jejímu ochuzování v souvislosti s rozvojem lidské spole nosti. Z pohledu ochrany p írody se proto horské ekosystémy adí mezi jedno z nejcenn jších a nejohrožen jších prost edí v globálním m ítku. V rámci p edložené doktorské práce byly studovány vybrané potenciáln významné antropické vlivy na biodiverzitu horských bezlesí Hrubého Jeseníku prost ednictvím modelové bioindika ní skupiny brouk (Coleoptera). V prostoru primárního bezlesí arkto- alpinní tundry byl studován vliv sjezdových tratí a invazivní d eviny borovice kle e ( Pinus mugo ) na spole enstva brouk . Na území sekundárních bezlesí podhorských luk a pastvin byl hodnocen vliv zem dlského hospoda ení na brouky a další bezobratlé. Studium vlivu lyža ského areálu prokázalo, že p estože jsou sjezdové trat v alpínské zón zájmového území provozovány zp sobem šetrným k vegetaci, tak pr kazn m ní pvodní spole enstva epigeických brouk . -

The introductory section provides a general overview of the main features of territory of the Lithuania, the origins and formation of the beetle fauna and their conservation, the faunistic investigations in Lithuania to date revealing the most important stages of the faunistic research process with reference to the most prominent scientists, an overview of their work, and their contribution to Lithuanian coleopteran faunal research. Old oaks (Quercus spp) are rare all over Europe and Turkey and members of the fauna living in these habitats are threatened. Nine stands with old hollow oaks, spread on fi ve areas, were studied in Turkey over 2005- 2009. In total 90 hollow oaks were studied. The studied oak species are Quercus cerris, Q. infectoria, Q. trojana, Q. libanii, Q. pubescens, Q. ithaburensis and Q. vulcanica. The same methods have been used for sampling the beetles: window traps on the tree trunk and pit fall traps in the wood mould inside the trunk cavities. The traps have been in fi eld from middle of April to the end of September during one season per area from 2005 to 2009. The studied areas are all situated 50-150 km from the southern Mediterranean coast at altitudes between 1100-1500 m except one at a lower altitude. Abstract Old hollow trees have declined in Europe and many saproxylic (i.e. wood-dwelling) invertebrates living on them are threatened. The aim of this study was to investigate to what extent artificial habitats can be exploited by saproxylic beetles. To mimic the conditions in tree hollows, we constructed wooden boxes filled with different combinations of substrates like oak saw dust, oak leaves, a dead hen (Gallus domesticus), chicken dung, lucerne flour or potatoes and placed them on tree trunks. -

Författare Author: Chipango Kamboyi Sammanfattning Abstract Oak habitats are rich in saproxylic species, but the habitat is declining with loss of diversity due to encroachment which decrease the vitality of oaks. The present explorative study compared results from a study conducted in 1994, with present species communities to observe if there has been change in species composition and what factors that can explain species diversity and composition. The results revealed that the overall species composition between 1994 and 2018 has changed. There were 130 species recorded in 2018 compared to 108 species in 1994 (31 new species were recorded in 2018, and 9 species lost from the study in 1994). There was a high species turnover recorded per individual tree, and the species composition between the living and encountered dead trees did not differ. -

Menacé d’extinction en Europe, il est inscrit en Annexe II de la directive « Habitats » dont l’objectif est d’assurer la préservation des habitats et des espèces d’intérêt communautaire au sein du réseau Natura 2000. Les gestionnaires d’espaces naturels où il est présent doivent assurer l’état de conservation de ses populations. Cependant, les difficultés de détection de l’espèce ont limité le développement des connaissances sur sa biologie et son écologie essentielles à la mise en place d’une stratégie de conservation. Cette lacune a motivé la réalisation de ce travail de thèse. Il commence par la compilation des données relatives à sa répartition: 184 localités à travers 17 pays.
