BORAGE OIL VIRGIN ORGANIC INCI CTFA : Borago Officinalis (Borage) Seed Oil INCI Europe : Borago Officinalis seed oil CAS : 68956-68-3 ; 225234-12-8 EINECS : 273-313-5 APPLICATIONS Borage oil is used externally in daytime creams, cleansing milks, face lotions and massage oils. It is also proposed in capsule form for internal consumption. ORIGIN Originating from the Mediterranean region, borage is a plant belonging to the Boraginaceae family that flowers from May to September. It reaches between 60 cm and 1m 30 in height and has broad, rough leaves with thick, prickly hairs. Its sky-blue, star- shaped flowers terminate in black stamens rich in pollen. The oil is extracted from the small, irregular, dark-brown or black seeds. To obtain virgin organic borage oil, the plants are grown using organic farming methods. They protect the environment by respecting biological cycles and by refusing pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. PROPERTIES Borage oil is sought after for its gamma linolenic acid content (17 to 25%). This fatty acid, very seldom and not synthesized by the organism, is essential to the integrity of the cell wall: it contributes to the suppleness and beauty of the skin. Because of this, borage oil has an anti-ageing effect, restoring elasticity to the epidermis. It has moisturizing, regenerating, toning and healing properties. It can also be used against eczema and encourages the action of zinc in countering acne.
