Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site Summer Frolic to Kickoff 2021 Events Saturday, June 19, 2021

PETERSBURG, Ill. – Welcome the summer season and celebrate our frontier heritage during the 2021 Summer Frolic on Saturday, June 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site near Petersburg.

Period-clothed interpreters will welcome guests throughout the historic and demonstrate various period crafts and trades such as blacksmithing, quilting, and natural dyeing.

The Summer Frolic will feature the site’s historic interpreters, which include volunteers and staff. Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site welcomed six interns and one intern from Eastern Illinois University for this season. The interns will serve as historic site interpreters each Tuesday through Saturday until the beginning of August. The Illinois College Explorer Internship program at Lincoln’s New Salem is partially funded by the site’s support organization, the New Salem Lincoln League.

Lincoln’s New Salem site events for 2021 include:

 June 19, 2021 – Summer Frolic  July 1, 2, and 3, 2021 – Independence Day Celebration  July 16, 2021 – Children’s Day  September 10 and 11, 2021 – Bluegrass Concerts (6:00 p.m. to 10:00p.m.)  September 11, 2021 – Traditional Music Festival  October 23, 2021 – Fall Festival  All events are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. unless noted. (More information will be forthcoming on the Candlelight Walk event in 2021.)

There is no admission fee to the site, however donations are accepted and appreciated. All donations are used for repair and maintenance of the historic village.

The site is open Tuesday-Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The Railsplitter Gift Shop, managed by the New Salem Lincoln League, is open Tuesday through Saturday. The Museum Store, also managed by the New Salem Lincoln League, is open Friday and Saturday. Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site is owned by the State of Illinois and operated by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
