That was about 60 years ago and still remains clear in my memory but another event that occurred 68 years ago made no mark in my diary. And why would it ? The formation of the Veteran Time Trials Association held no interest for a 21 year old but the main aim of the Association, to encourage riders over 40 to continue racing, has been extremely successful. You have only to look at any time trial start sheet to note riders who are in their 60s, 70s and 80s who are still competing using the Standard Tables introduced by Ernest Strevens. Due to better competition, more scientific training, lightweight multi-geared cycles and improved road surfaces the balance in recent years seems to have swung in favour of the older riders and following a proposal at the last AGM a Working Party was formed to address the situation. They have worked very hard and For the vast majority of us the season has following a presentation to the National finished, the clocks have changed and we’ve Executive, a Special General Meeting was had the extra hour in bed, the diet now includes arranged to present these findings to a wider the odd one or two cream cakes and the odd section of the Association before a firm proposal one or seven pints is consumed ! Some were contacted via the Time Trialling Forum website. In many cases I had ridden the same event so had the results sheet to hand or could foresee that a claim would be forthcoming, in particular the E2/30 on 1st October, when competition record was broken. It is clear that a few organisers are still tardy in supplying results sheets within a reasonable time scale, which causes extra work for claimants and those responsible for accumulating the statistics. • Altitude Sickness Sports Club Membership
THE Yeovil Cycling Club October 2009 Altitude sickness The conclusion of the Evening Time Trial Series finished with the traditional dash up High Ham for the Hill Climb. We were joined by a number of other clubs, and some had just come from competing in a 25. One of them being last years champion, Tom Alliban, who choose to sit it out this year, although he was keen to offer advice to his fellow club members as they neared the top of the hill! The fastest Yeovil rider was Anthony Morris, which considering all the 'practice' he puts in each week on the Club Runs was no surprise. He was just 13 seconds behind the fastest man on the day, Rob Edgell of Somer Valley CC. Rob was followed by Chards' new protégé Sebastian Bayliss (15) and the man he has been giving a hard time to on their training runs, Rex Facey (but to give an old man his due Rex had just done the 25 in 58 minutes!). Hugo had to relinquish his club title but only by two seconds. It was good to see so many YCC riders competing, no matter how seriously they took it – going back for a bar end stopper which fell out half way up the hill might suggest a lack of serious commitment – (only joking Mike, especially as I was sat on the sidelines doing the hard bit of taking the pictures! –Ed). Thanks to everyone that has ridden, helped or contributed in any way to making it another great year for the TTs.

CTT / RTTC British National 10 mile TT Ayr Roads / Fullarton Wheelers 1st & 2nd September 2018 Race Manual Ayr Roads and Fullarton Wheelers are delighted to welcome you to the RTTC British National 10 Mile TT Championships for 2018 presented by CTT. Many of you may know that this is the first time which the championships have been held north of the border, and we welcome you all to our local area. Special thanks go to William Cosh and Bill McMillan for driving the Scottish District from strength to strength. The CTT Scottish district is a fairly recent creation, and clubs were delighted to hear that the board wished to bring the National Championships here for 2018. Ayr Roads and Fullarton Wheelers met to tout the idea of submitting a joint proposal to host the race on the well-known “Eglinton 10” course. This course on the A78 is one which most riders have on their bucket list, with an appetite to test themselves on quiet roads, but never quite knowing how the Ayrshire winds will blow. Both clubs have come together to put on this festival of racing for the weekend, and we would both like to thank all members for their help and support in bringing our idea to fruition. We hope you enjoy your visit to North Ayrshire and wish you all the very best for your race.
