CTT / RTTC British National 10 Mile TT Ayr Roads / Fullarton Wheelers 1St & 2Nd September 2018 Race Manual CTT / RTTC British National 10 mile TT Ayr Roads / Fullarton Wheelers 1st & 2nd September 2018 Race Manual Ayr Roads and Fullarton Wheelers are delighted to welcome you to the RTTC British National 10 Mile TT Championships for 2018 presented by CTT. Many of you may know that this is the first time which the championships have been held north of the border, and we welcome you all to our local area. Special thanks go to William Cosh and Bill McMillan for driving the Scottish District from strength to strength. The CTT Scottish district is a fairly recent creation, and clubs were delighted to hear that the board wished to bring the National Championships here for 2018. Ayr Roads and Fullarton Wheelers met to tout the idea of submitting a joint proposal to host the race on the well-known “Eglinton 10” course. This course on the A78 is one which most riders have on their bucket list, with an appetite to test themselves on quiet roads, but never quite knowing how the Ayrshire winds will blow. Both clubs have come together to put on this festival of racing for the weekend, and we would both like to thank all members for their help and support in bringing our idea to fruition. We hope you enjoy your visit to North Ayrshire and wish you all the very best for your race. Michael Curran & Dave Walker ARCC & FWCC Race HQ Eglinton Country Park, Racquet Hall, Irvine KA12 8TA Organisers – Michael Curran 07827331680 Dave Walker 07715742663 HQ Emergency Number – 07943423941 Email - [email protected] Travel Advice For those competitors who are travelling to Ayrshire from farther afield, below are some pointers for help getting to the area. From the South Heading north on the M74, at J4 follow signs for M74 (Glasgow Airport M8). Follow signage for M77, Kilmarnock. Exit the A77 at the Bellfield Interchange. Signposted for Irvine, A71. Proceed on the A71 until the Warrix Interchange (approx 7 miles). Turn right at the roundabout, follow signs for Ardrossan A78. You are now joining the 10 course. Proceed North on the A78, follow signs for Eglinton Country Park. From the North Cross the Clyde via the Erskine Bridge Exit at Glasgow Airport, following signs for the A737 Stay on the A737 all the way to Kilwinning In Kilwinning, follow signs for Irvine. Eglinton Park is signposted as ‘Country Park’ just as you leave the town. From the East/North East Join the M77 from the M8. Instructions as above for travel from the South. Traffic Management Detailed below is the Traffic Management plan which will be in operation during the weekend. The exit from the Eglinton Interchange roundabout toward Eglinton Park will be closed. This is to ensure the Start line is free of traffic. Entrance to and from the park will be via Irvine Road / A737, as shown by the Green line. Please ensure you familiarise yourself with the map below. Eglinton Park Layout Parking is indicated in Yellow. Race HQ is outlined in Blue. Green is the Shower Block. Both male and female showers are available. No parking outside the “bus shelter” (red circle) on the left-hand side next to HQ. Eglinton Park Staff have asked that riders do not park vehicles on the grass alongside the road throughout the park. Please use the main and overflow car parks which are a few meters further along on the right. Between these three areas there's plenty of parking for everyone. Green is the Start Line. Red is the Finish line The Eglinton Course After the start, riders approach the Eglinton Interchange roundabout and exit 1st left onto the slip road for the A78. Keep right on the slip road as you join the A78. After 2.8 miles you will need to move out into the middle lane, as the inside lane turns into a slip road for the Warrix Interchange. See notes below for guidance. Stay on the A78 until you approach the Meadowhead roundabout at the UPM Caledonian Papermill. Go fully round the roundabout and re-join the A78 heading north with the event finishing on the slip road up to the Eglinton Interchange roundabout. Guidance At approximately mile 3, riders must move safely to the middle lane of the A78. The inside lane becomes the slip road to the A71 and is not part of the route. Check over your shoulder in plenty of time, and move out only when the lane is clear. Marshals will be present to indicate the lane change. Marshals cannot direct or stop traffic – normal rules of the road apply, and you are responsible for your own safety. At the Meadowhead roundabout (the turn,) you will have to move out into the right hand lane. Again, check over your shoulder in plenty of time, and only move out when the lane is clear. Your safety is priority. Once finished please proceed up the slip road to the Eglinton Interchange roundabout without delay! Please be aware or traffic joining from the left and proceed with caution after your effort. It is recommended that all riders familiarise themselves with the course prior to the race. Safety Notices Please make sure your bike is in good condition and ready to be ridden at speed. It is also recommended that you don’t ride with your head down. We know it can be more ‘aero’, but we don’t want anyone having an accident because they weren’t looking where they were going! We will be using a start ramp at the event. There will be stairs at the rear of the ramp for access. Please exercise caution when climbing the stairs, as well as when riding off of the ramp. Please remember the traffic management plan will be in operation and obey the highway code at all times Rider Compliance All riders are requested to have a rear flashing light attached to their bike where possible. If possible, a small flashing front light would also be appreciated. It helps marshals see you approaching during poor weather. Race numbers should be pinned to your lower back and sleeve and must be forward facing and visible to the officials. Anti Doping There is a high possibility that representatives from UK Anti-Doping will be in attendance at this event. If selected, then please comply with their processes. We all strive for a clean sport and a level playing field! Sign On Sign on opens at 08.15. The venue will be getting setup from 8am so please don’t try to sign on before the allocated time. You will be turned away until the team are operational. Officials CTT Elected representative: Paul Thomson Timekeepers: Blair Wylie, Geoff Smith, Linda Smith, Jim Smith, Martin Knox, Janette Hazlett, Mhairi Laffoley, Arnold Thomson Sign-On, Start line “hauder upper’s” and the Marshal team for both days, are members of both hosting clubs and are complimented by the wider Ayrshire cycling community. Due to the short time gap between the starts of the sections, the timekeepers will not have a chance to return to the hall to verify times and ensure we have the correct results. This also applies to the official photographer, and I’m sure all medal winners will wish to have their moment of glory recorded. We thank you for your patience and understanding. Catering We have spoken to the staff at the Tournament Café at the park and they have agreed to open early for us on both days of competition. In here you will find a range of soups, hot food, speciality coffees and home baking. The café can be accessed through the courtyard to the right of the main carpark. Prizegiving Prize Giving will take place around 12:15 on Saturday for both the Juniors and Ladies competition. Male prize giving will be at 12:45 on Sunday. Please stay back after your race to congratulate your fellow competitors. Special Guest We are extremely honoured to have the company of Fullarton Wheelers Honorary President, Mr Graeme Obree with us for the race weekend The word “legend” is often used to describe many people, but we feel this portrays him perfectly. Graeme is a two-time world 4000m pursuit and two-time world hour record champion. He has made his own bikes, invented riding positions, pushed the realms of engineering to its limits, whilst proving the impossible is possible. Graeme will be presenting the prizes both days and is looking forward to being with us for the weekend. Partners Ayr Roads and Fullarton Wheelers and indebted to our partners for helping us put on this fantastic event. As soon as we spoke to each of the organisations below, they were delighted to help in any way they could.

  • Birdwatching in Ayrshire and Arran
Birdwatching in Ayrshire and Arran Note on the on-line edition: The original leaflet (shown on the right) was published in 2003 by the Ayrshire Branch of the SOC and was so popular that the 20,000 print run is now gone. We have therefore published this updated edition on-line to ensure people interested in Ayrshire’s birds (locals and visitors) can find out the best locations to watch our birds. To keep the size of the document to a minimum we have removed the numerous photographs that were in the original. The on- line edition was first published in November 2005. Introduction This booklet is a guide to the best birding locations in Ayrshire and Arran. It has been produced by the Ayrshire branch of the SOC with help from individuals, local organisations and authorities. It should be used in conjunction with our website (www.ayrshire-birding.org.uk) which gives extra details. Additions and corrections can be reported via the website. The defining influences on Ayrshire as an environment for birds and other wildlife are its very long coast-line (135km not counting islands), and the fact that it lies almost entirely in the rift valley between the Highland Boundary Fault and the Southern Upland Fault. Exceptions to this generally lowland character are the mountains of north Arran, our own little bit of the Highlands, and the moorlands and hills of the south and south-east fringes of the county. The mild climate has resulted in a mainly pastoral agriculture and plenty of rivers and lochs, making it good for farmland and water birds.
