FLY FISHING AT FUTANGUE PRIVATE RESERVE

A PRISTINE jewel set in the middle of a native forest-covered amphitheater, hiding a reservoir for wild trout, close to perfection.” These are the words of Chile’s angling pioneer, Adrián Dufflocq, describing the scenery where guests can fly fish in Futangue Nature Park. An outdoor journey that has to be experienced to be believed.

The park and its surrounding areas offer world-class fly fishing, for rainbow and brown trout and also for salmon like Coho, Chinook and Salar. The combination of privacy, excellent connectivity and quality accommodation is difficult to find in other destinations, in addition to the fact that most of the waters we fish have limited access to only a few fishermen.

Adrián Dufocq fishing in Pichi lake, 2015 To our friends and guests,

The Hotel and the Park are surrounded by a privileged hydrographic system. Our programs involve fishing a variety of waters in beautiful lakes and streams inside the Park, relatively close to the Hotel; also we fish other rivers and lakes in the area, never more than one-hour’s beautiful car drive away, or even closer. We have exclusive access to most of the waters we fish, where you will be fishing in complete solitude, in the middle of breathtaking natural landscapes. Our trout season opens the second Friday of November, and closes the first Sunday of May. We especially recommend the periods of November through to mid-January and March to April. These are the best times to fish for trout in Chile. We fish with streamers, wet flies and nymphs during the early season, (from roughly November until the first week in December.) Our dry fly fishing starts in the last week of November, with hatches of insects reaching a peak by Christmas and continuing through January. Although nymph fishing is available all day, we prefer the early mornings and particularly evenings, around and after sunset. At the lakes with reeds in the Park, nymph fishing is very prolific. We like casting dry flies during the evening rise. Then we can spot the larger trout (usually next to the banks with overhanging vegetation)…not easy spots, but if you manage to present the fly properly, the reward is a good strike. We fish like this until late in the evening; then return to the hotel for cocktails and dinner. The hotel is located in a beautiful setting inside the Park. It has all the conveniences for a relaxed vacation with first class service and a fantastic Spa. Hospitality is a tradition in our country, and our staff will assist in every possible way in order to make your stay a landmark of a memorable visit to Chile.

Sincerely,

Matías Ruiz - Tagle, Adrián Dufocq fishing the Riñinahue Inlet, 1979. Owner. FLY FISHING EXCURSIONS
