Case uses a modified Rider-Waite version of the Tarot called the Builders of the Adytum, which he designed himself to be more in line with his own comprehensions. Case was an early twentieth-century occultist and author who began his path in the theater and working as a stage magician. His interest in Tarot in particular came after the a fellow occultist asked him where he thought playing cards came from, and from that research he entered into a lifelong study of the Tarot, esotericism, and yogic practices. The Tarot is a useful primer of the basics of Western occultism as each chapter contains a detailed explanation of the Tarot card and its associated Hebrew letter, numerical value, astrology sign, planet, color, musical note, and Kabbalistic significance. The book also emphasizes the importance of the sequence of the Tarot cards in order, and the relationship of each card to the other in various combinations. For someone new to occult studies it is useful to learn about the language and vocabulary of Western occultism contained within these teachings. For students of the gnostic teachings of Samael Aun Weor this book may be of interest to help augment and complement the studies with the Egyptian Tarot deck and his work The Initiatic Path in the Arcana of Tarot and Kabbalah. While Samael Aun Weor writes in a powerful way about the purely internal and deeply esoteric initiatic path, Case brings in a clarity and simplicity to understand the Tarot as it has been used for centuries within Western occultism. It is always important to understand that even the most clear explanation can never do justice to the true inner meaning of the Tarot, but hopefully it inspires further investigation within ourselves to comprehend these archetypes. https://www.gnosticmuse.com The Tarot by Paul Foster Case Gnostic Muse “The Golden scales in the woman’s left hand are a subtle hint that solar energy, or light, for which the ancient symbol was gold, may be used as an instrument whereby to weigh and measure action. This fact was well known to occultists in the day Tarot was invented, and modern science confirms this by making the speed of light, and also its mass, the basis for calculations which demonstrate the electrical nature of all so-called ‘matter’. These same calculations have led to the discovery of atomic fission, which will undoubtedly bring about the revolution of chemical and physical science predicted in 1859 by Eliphas Levi.” – Paul Foster Case, The Tarot, Chapter for Key 11 https://www.gnosticmuse.com The Tarot by Paul Foster Case Gnostic Muse “The mental attitude suggested by the Hanged Man then is ‘Not my will, but thine’. This is ever the position of the adept, as, indeed, it is the position of every person who works in any field of applied science. It is an attitude born of the knowledge that ‘my will’ is an illusive, personal thing which is but the reflection, or mask, of ‘Thy Will’, the real Will, which is the purpose or motive of the cosmic Life- a Will absolutely free, and certain to be realized. This thought does not imply that the Universal Will visits affliction, disease and poverty upon us. It does not mean that we must be resigned to our troubles, like dumb beasts, making no complaint when they are beaten. It means that in spite of appearances the cosmic Will works always toward good, that the universal Will-to-good cannot possibly be defeated.” -Paul Foster Case, The Tarot, Chapter for Key 12 [/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section] https://www.gnosticmuse.com.

  • Israel Regardie and the Psychologization of Esoteric Discourse
Correspondences 3 (2015) 5–54 ISSN: 2053-7158 (Online) correspondencesjournal.com Israel Regardie and the Psychologization of Esoteric Discourse Christopher A. Plaisance E-mail: [email protected] Abstract This is an article in the history of Western esoteric currents that re-examines and clarifies the relationship between esoteric and psychological discourses within the works of Israel Regardie. One of the most common ways in which these two discourses have been found to be related to one another by scholars of the esoteric is through the process of “psychologization”— with Regardie often being put forth as a paragon of the process. This paper argues that a unitary conception of psychologization fails to adequately describe the specific discursive strategies utilized by Regardie. In order to accurately analyze his ideas, a manifold typology of complementary, terminological, reductive, and idealist modes of psychologization is proposed instead. Through this system of classification, Regardie’s ideas regarding the relationship between psychological and esoteric discourses are understood as a network of independent but non-exclusive processes, rather than as a single trend. It is found that all four modes of psychologization are present, both in relative isolation and in combination with one another, throughout his works. These results demonstrate that while it is accurate to speak of Regardie as having psychologized esoteric discourse, this can only be the case given an understanding of “psychologization” that is differentially nuanced in a way that, at least, accounts for the distinct discursive strategies this paper identifies. "Adytum" is an ancient Greek word that refers to the innermost part of the Temple, the Holy of Holies, "that which is not made with hands." Builders of the Adytum is an inter- national non-profit teaching and training Order and an outer vehicle of the Inner Spiritual Hierarchy, sometimes called the Inner School, which guides the evolution of Man. Through Builders of the Adytum's intensely practical curriculum, which includes both lessons and rituals, students are given the opportunity to become more attuned to their innermost Reality, and so become more con- scious instruments for the Life Power. First Published in 1931 by THE SCHOOL OF AGELESS WISDOM 279 Newbury Street, Boston, Mass. Rosicrucian Order of the Golden Dawn www.rogd.org FOREWARD This volume is an excellent resource for gaining a greater understanding of Alchemy and the Hermetic tradition. Tony DeLuce should be commended for producing such a wonderful edition of Case's original Alchemy course material. Paul Foster Case - a true Adept within the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn (Alpha et Omega) in America - worked for several years under the guidance of Moina Mathers. Upon leaving the Order, he founded his own magical organization called B.O.T.A. (Builders of the Adytum). Case wrote a number of courses for the students in the B.O.T.A. and the material in this book comprised an early version of one of these courses. Case is known for communicating complex esoteric information and ideas in a clear and precise manner. It is a pleasure to read Case's lesson plan for cutting through the enigma of Alchemy, getting right to the powerfbl heart of what Spiritual Alchemy is, and how it can be used to benefit the magical life.

Life is a succession of open doors. We pass through some and others we pass by. The decisions we make before these open doors are the arbiters of our destiny thenceforth. This volume is an open door before which you now stand. Look within and consider well what you see there, for this portal leads from outer darkness to Inner Light. May that Light be extended upon you. 1 MYSTERY SCHOOLS "For you it is given to understand. For others, I speak in parables." In every age and in every country there are always those few individuals who seek more satisfying answers to the great questions of Life than they can find in their local churches and temples or through science. If their quest is sincere and they persist, they will eventually be drawn into contact with one of the world's Mystery Schools, where they may be instructed and trained. There have always been centers, called Mystery Schools, responding to the cry for understanding from aspirants throughout the ages. From within those walls, a secret knowledge called The Ageless Wisdom has been known and used for many cen- turies in enlightening the spiritual aspirants of each epoch. It is called Ageless because it is not susceptible to the mutations of time nor is the Ageless Wisdom primarily a product of man's thinking. It is written by God upon the face of nature, there for all to read, if they can. Hitherto, the great practical secrets have been guarded carefully from spiritual dilettantes and have only been given to duly initiated men and women under the strictest pledges of secrecy.

Autumnal Equinox 1997 — Builders of the Adytum — Vol. V Number 2 Our time is distinguished by wonderful achievements in the fields of scientific understanding and the technical application of those insights. Who would not be cheered by this? But let us not forget that knowledge and skills alone cannot lead humanity to a happy and dignified life. Humanity has every reason to place the proclaimers of high moral standards and values above the discoverers of objective truth. What humanity owes to personalities like Buddha, Moses, and Jesus ranks for me higher than all the achievements of the enquiring and constructive mind. What these blessed men have given us we must guard and try to keep alive with all our strength if humanity is not to lose its dignity, the security of its existence, and its joy in living. A Heh , , is also the final letter of that word; but it indicates a group of ideas quite distinct from those assigned to the second letter. This conflict of meanings is reason for supposing that the two Hehs in the Tetragrammaton, , are merely arbitrary symbols, like the “x” that stands for an unknown quantity, or the “n” that is the sign for an indefinite number.
