Paralepistopsis is distinguished from its allied clitocyboid genera by a Lepista flaccida-like habit, a pileipellis with diverticulate hyphae, small non-lacrymoid basidiospores with a smooth slightly cyanophilous and inamyloid wall, and the presence of toxic acromelic acids. Combined ITS-LSU sequence analyses place Paralepistopsis close to Cleistocybe and Catathelasma within the tricholomatoid clade. Our phylogenetic analysis further supports Lepista subg. Paralepista (= Lepista sect. Gilva) as an independent clitocyboid evolutionary line. We recognize the genus Paralepista, for which we propose twelve new combinations. Zervakis * Laboratory of General and Agricultural Microbiology, Agricultural University of Athens, 11855 Athens, Greece; [email protected] (E.P.); [email protected] (V.F.); [email protected] (V.D.) * Correspondence: [email protected]; Tel.: +30-210-5294341 Received: 15 May 2020; Accepted: 7 June 2020; Published: 9 June 2020 Abstract: Alluvial forests dominated by black alder (Alnus glutinosa) are widespread in Europe along river banks and watercourses forming a habitat of renowned ecological/conservation importance. Despite the considerable interest this habitat has attracted in terms of the associated fungal diversity, very few pertinent data are available from the eastern Mediterranean. Andros island (Aegean Sea, Greece) hosts the southernmost population of A. glutinosa in the Balkan Peninsula; such stands have been systematically inventoried for several years in respect to macrofungi. In total, 187 specimens were collected and studied by examining morphoanatomic features and by evaluating (when necessary) the outcome of sequencing the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of nuclear ribosomal DNA (nrDNA) to elucidate their identity and obtain an insight into phylogenetic relationships. As a result, 106 species were recorded, 92 are saprotrophic and 14 form ectomycorrhizae (ECM) with alders. Twenty-one species are first national records, while 68 other species are reported for the first time from this habitat in Greece. Several findings of particular interest due to their rarity, ecological preferences and/or taxonomic status are presented in detail and discussed, e.g., six Alnicola taxa, Cortinarius americanus, Lactarius obscuratus, Paxillus olivellus and Russula pumila (among the ECMs), and the saprotrophs Entoloma uranochroum, Gymnopilus arenophilus, Hyphoderma nemorale, Lepiota ochraceofulva, Phanerochaete livescens and Psathyrella hellebosensis.

CBIB SEVENTH UPDATE (UD7) (Ainsworth, A.M. & Henrici, A. 2016) The online CBIB database (http://www.basidiochecklist.info/index.htm) continues to be updated, principally by A.M. Ainsworth (RBG, Kew) & A. Henrici and supported by P.M. Kirk (RBG, Kew) with specialist assistance from D.J. Schafer (ink caps) and G.G. Kibby (Russula). It incorporates data published in the printed Checklist (Legon & Henrici 2005) together with the additions and modifications recorded in this series of Updates and other more minor amendments submitted electronically to PMK. As was the case for UD6, priority has been accorded to new additions to, and exclusions from, the British and Irish list. Approximately 278 net additions (326 additions and 48 exclusions), almost all at species level, have been made to the checklist since the publication of Legon & Henrici (2005) yielding an average of ca. 25 net additions per annum since the book was printed eleven years ago. Changes to higher taxa CBIB, as the name implies, is a checklist of the phylum Basidiomycota and originally recognised the three classes Basidiomycetes, Urediniomycetes and Ustilaginomycetes. These have now been raised to the rank of subphyla [e.g. Hibbett et al. Mycological Research 111(5): 509–547. (2007)] respectively becoming Agaricomycotina, Pucciniomycotina and Ustilaginomycotina. Hibbett et al. (2007) also recognised two further classes of Basidiomycota unassigned to any of these three subphyla: Wallemiomycetes for a single species Wallemia sebi (added in UD6 as not previously recognised as basidiomycetous), and Entorrhizomycetes formerly regarded as Ustilaginomycetes causing root galls of rushes, sedges and their allies. Recent molecular analysis [Bauer et al.

An Inventory of Fungal Diversity in Ohio Research Thesis Presented in partial fulfillment of the requirements for graduation with research distinction in the undergraduate colleges of The Ohio State University by Django Grootmyers The Ohio State University April 2021 1 ABSTRACT Fungi are a large and diverse group of eukaryotic organisms that play important roles in nutrient cycling in ecosystems worldwide. Fungi are poorly documented compared to plants in Ohio despite 197 years of collecting activity, and an attempt to compile all the species of fungi known from Ohio has not been completed since 1894. This paper compiles the species of fungi currently known from Ohio based on vouchered fungal collections available in digitized form at the Mycology Collections Portal (MyCoPortal) and other online collections databases and new collections by the author. All groups of fungi are treated, including lichens and microfungi. 69,795 total records of Ohio fungi were processed, resulting in a list of 4,865 total species-level taxa. 250 of these taxa are newly reported from Ohio in this work. 229 of the taxa known from Ohio are species that were originally described from Ohio. A number of potentially novel fungal species were discovered over the course of this study and will be described in future publications. The insights gained from this work will be useful in facilitating future research on Ohio fungi, developing more comprehensive and modern guides to Ohio fungi, and beginning to investigate the possibility of fungal conservation in Ohio. INTRODUCTION Fungi are a large and very diverse group of organisms that play a variety of vital roles in natural and agricultural ecosystems: as decomposers (Lindahl, Taylor and Finlay 2002), mycorrhizal partners of plant species (Van Der Heijden et al.
