IFLA invited Brunei Darussalam Library Association to participate in the IFLA Library Map of the World project which is a representative source of basic library statistics and a robust tool for providing a worldwide comparison of different library performance metrics, mapped by country level data. The data visualisation website will be launched at IFLA World Library and Information Congress 2017 in Wrocław, Poland in August 2017. Libraries are leading promoters and providers of free access to all types of information to all citizens. To show the potential of the global library field, the Library Map of the World will feature all types of libraries, including national, academic, public, community, school, and special libraries. The initial set of performance metrics include number of libraries, number of libraries providing internet access, number of staff and volunteers, number of registered users and visitors, and number of loans. BLA wishes to thank all libraries for their full cooperation in submitting the relevant data for this project. It took place on 1 March to 4 March 2017 . The three libraries were Yayasan Sabah Library, University Malaysia Sabah Library and Sabah State Library. Joining this trip were 29 students and three lecturers Cg Haji Abu Bakar bin Haji Zainal, Cg Haji Si-Ramlee Bin Haji Serudin and Cg Haji Mohammad Aziz Sahbireen Bin Haji Tammid. The main objectives of this educational trip are to provide valuable educational opportunities away from the classroom and to allow the students to bond with each other without the structure of the normal school day so they can meet in small groups, observing, chatting and building friendships. On the second day, we visited Yayasan Sabah library which is located at Menara Tun Mustapha, Yayasan Sabah. We were invited by the library staff to tour around the library and Tun Mustapha Museum. On the third day we visited the UMS Library which is located at Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Jalan UMS and Sabah State Library located at Jalan Tasik. At the UMS library we were welcomed by the librarians and taken on a tour around the library which is on three-levels. Our last visit was to the Sabah State Library where we were led by the librarians and were briefed about the library and their new application system. Experiences gained from the educational trip, was that it allowed and enabled us as students to have a feel of the real – world experience and library development in other countries. Moreover, it enhanced the quality of our education and it also improved social relations bringing us students closer together. During the trip to the libraries in Kota Kinabalu we have found that many of the digital resources are searchable and accessible directly via the online catalogue. Building research skills is by way of curricular assignments and projects that resulted in accomplished readers and researchers ready at a skill level notably above their peers. It was also interesting to learn that the Sabah State Library is planning on constructing a new building and to introduce a new system which allows users to make their book loans through a mobile application.
