Objectives To be engaged in implementing the development program of the government in the power sector; To adopt modern technology and ensure optimum utilization of the primary and alternative source of fuel for sustainable development of power generation projects; To purchase power as a Single Buyer from power producers; To provide reliable power supply to customers enabling socio economic development; To promote a work culture, team spirit and inventiveness to overcome challenges; To promote ideas, talent and value systems for employees. Annual Report 2018-19 From the desk of Chairman It is a matter of immense pleasure that Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), the largest electricity utility of the country is going to publish its Annual Report for the financial year 2018-2019. Power sector of Bangladesh is a proud sector of the country with installed power generation capacity of 22,562 MW as of October 2019 (including captive and renewable energy). Power sector of Bangladesh is one of the booming sectors of the country. Now 95% of the total population has access to electricity. The largest energy consumers in Bangladesh are residential sector, followed by industries, commercial and agricultural sectors. Only few years back high system loss, low plant efficiency, erratic power supply, shortages of funds for power plant maintenance and absence of new power generation plan were the big problems in Bangladesh's power sector, but now the scenario is completely different.

This study is the first of its kind to examine potential areas for solar and wind energy projects in Bangladesh that can help to meet those goals. To do this, we excluded all areas likely to be environmentally or socially unacceptable for solar or wind projects (low-lying areas, steep slopes, dense settlements, protected areas and their buffer zones, etc.), and then estimated the lev- elized cost of electricity for each 5km2 “project opportunity area”. We found that there is far more utility-scale solar PV potential than previ- ously estimated, at costs lower than coal power, and conversion of cropland can likely be avoided. In 2016, electricity demand in Bangladesh was 11.4 GW. By 2021, the Government plans to develop 13.3 GW from new coal plants, and less than 2 GW of solar energy. But Bangladesh could replace large portion of 13.3 GW of planned coal projects with utility-scale solar for an average LCOE of $91/MWh, compared to $110/MWh for coal, given the identified 53GW potential from solar PV.

Firstly Interconnected grid system in Chattogram circle and generation capacity of Chattogram areas is briefly discussed. We have studied schematic diagram, existing sub- stations, protection scheme and existing transmission lines. We have also discussed maximum load study in some important sub- stations and peak hour demands of different grid sub-stations. A discussion is included on the problems of existing transmission system of Chattogram and remedies of those problems. Keywords: Transmission system, Power plant, Sub-station, power load, PGCB 1. Introduction principle components are the generating system, the transmission system and the distribution systems. The Power transmission systems have been growing in size and transmission lines are the connecting links between the complexity due to the necessity to monitor lower and generating stations and the distribution system and lead to the lower voltage levels in detail in order to track power flows power systems over interconnections. manipulated by renewable sources. These sources are increasingly being connected in large numbers at lower In this modern world, the dependence on electricity so much voltage sections of the grid. Furthermore, due to the that it has become a part of our life. Power Systems (PS) are possibilities brought up by wide-area control and continuously monitored in order to maintain the normal and optimization over long distances, monitoring very large scale secure state of operating conditions [4].
