This tin wealth spans from in South East Asia and now it even becomes the only area Singkep to Belitung islands. Since Malaysia and Thailand producing tin in this region since Malaysia and Thailand closed their production and followed by Singkep on the late closed their production in 1990’s (Sujitno, 2007:5-7; of 90’s, Bangka Belitung islands have become the only Erman, 2010:3). region producing tin in Indonesia and South East Asia. Interestingly, since reformation rolling, tin that initially under full control of government has turned to be free Tin has been such a problematic matter, not only because commodity without clear management. Tin has entered the of its high price as an un-replaceable industrial whirlpool playing in all arenas, i.e. politics, law, ecology, component, but tin in Bangka Island also dealt with such social, up to the very complicated economy domain. Wolters The Palembang Coast during the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Centuries I had always supposed that the metropolitan centers of Srivijaya, though probably dispersed according to their royal, social, commercial, or food-supplying functions, were in the neighborhood o f modern Palem bang city. I was among those influenced by the presence there of seventh century inscriptions, and I also assumed that the area where Bukit Seguntang stood had long ago possessed relig iou s prestige among Malays and contributed to the fame of the Palembang area. I did not believe that the capital of Srivijaya had always been in the Palembang area. Palembang enjoyed this status from the seventh century until the second half of the eleventh, when the Malay overlord*s center was moved to the Jambi area where it remained until turbulent events in the second half of the fourteenth century set in train the foundation of the Malay maritime empire of Malacca by a Palembang prince. After the shift in political hegemony from Palembang to Jambi, perhaps only officials in the Chinese court anachronistically continued to use the expression "San-fo-ch*iM ("Srivijaya") to identify the prominent polit ica l center on the southeastern coast of Sumatra. -
Contesting Boundaries in the Riau Archipelago
CAROLE FAUCHER Contesting boundaries in the Riau Archipelago The fall of the New Order and the implementation of the regional autonomy laws have provided fresh opportunities for the local elite to promote and consolidate their own sphere of influence. As has already been the case in a number of provinces and districts, instances of conflict have spread, often in the context of power struggles and highly complex social and political restructurings (H. Schulte Nordholt 2002). In many cases, these conflicts are popularly articulated through the language of ethnic and religious identity politics. Similarly, ethnic and religious sensitivities which were consciously repressed during the period of the New Order, are now exposed. The Riau Archipelago (or Kepri from Kepulauan Riau) had been so far largely spared from acute tensions and mounting violence. However, among the urban middle class and between generations ideological polarization has taken place. The different attempts to conceptualize ‘Masyarakat Kepri’ – the society of Kepulauan Riau – by politicians and public intellectuals seems to demonstrate how an increasing emphasis on regional identity has gradually superseded a more general concern with the nation. The discussion about the character of the newly formed province of Kepri has oscillated over the past years between the aristocrats’ ideal of reverting to the era of the sultanate, and an image of an industrial oriented pluralistic society, advocated by business people, which is strong and autonomous enough to compete economically with Singapore and Malaysia. The proximity to Malaysia and Singapore has created an interesting para- dox. On one hand, Singapore and Malaysia have been a source of identity for the Malays in the Riau Archipelago as important economic and cultural power bases. -

Diponegoro 57, Bandung 40122 [email protected] Abstrak Cekungan Sumatera Selatan dibagi menjadi empat subcekungan yaitu Subcekungan Jambi, Palembang Tengah, Palembang Utara, dan Palembang Selatan. Katakunci : Cekungan Sumatera Selatan, sejarah penimbunan, generasi hidrokarbon, Formasi Lahat, dan Formasi Talangakar Abstract South Sumatra Basin is divided into four subbasins, that are Jambi Subbasin, Central Palembang Subbasin, North Palembang Subbasin, and South Palembang Subbasin. -

Geologically Riau Islands is located in the topography of the old stadium erosion. The morphology is characterized by smooth hills with convex slopes and alluvial plain consisting of the erosion products. The morphology exhibits the remnants of peneplain that submerged at ca 13,000 BP now forming Sunda Shelf with the average depth of 120 meters. The irregular coast’s line of almost all the islands in Riau Islands characterized the submerged old morphologic stadium. The lithology consists of granites and metasediments. Granites contain various types of economic minerals. The weathered granites produce bauxite, kaolin and quarts sands. The metasediments are generally soft resulting in the formation of valleys suitable for agriculture and settlements due to the availability of surface and subsurface water. Irregular coastal line provide the bays for harbors. The geological potentials to be developed therefore consists of the provision of stable plain and resistance to landslide and earthquake, the bays suitable for various marine industries, granites for building materials, and base metals. The submarine hydrocarbon basins produce oil and gas. Geologically Riau Islands is very unique because it represents the remnants of the peneplain of Jurassic and Cretaceous age of about 63 to 181 years old now becoming the Sunda shelf which is the largest in the world. -

Diponegoro No.57 Bandung, Jawa Barat, Indonesia Corresponding author: [email protected] Manuscript received: October 14, 2014, revised: December 09, 2014, approved: March 30, 2015, available online: April, 08, 2015 Abstract - Lingga Regency is located in the main range of the famous Southeast Asia granitic belt related to tin resources. There are two granitic units in this region: the S-type Muncung Granite and I-type Tanjungbuku Granite. XRF and ICP-MS were used to measure the major, trace, and rare earth elements of nine Muncung Granite samples. Two different patterns were identified from major data plotting on Harker variation diagram. Granitic rocks from Lingga and Selayar Islands are classified as A facies while others from Singkep Island is B facies. This paper used graphs and variation diagrams to reveal the differences of those two facies. Thus, REE correlation to SiO2, trace element spider diagram, and REE spider diagram show more contrasts correlation. However, both facies are syn-collisional and High-K calc-alkaline granites. Some identical characters with other granitic units in Peninsular Malaysia were also detected in this work. Keywords: Harker diagram, Muncung Granite, peraluminous, syn-collision, Spider diagram, two facies How to cite this article: Irzon, R., 2015.
