I was struck by the provocative poses of Cui Jian, who blindfolded himself with a red scarf - stunned by the images of the crowds attending his performance, images that were juxtaposed with accounts of the student protests of June 1989; and puzzled, as I, a rather distant observer, always imagined China to be a totalitarian regime with little room for dissident voices. -

Bit scary and I would say a number of you may have to go through beginner lessons again and also wear name tags lol. On the 9th of May the national association had their AGM with a number of clubs from throughout New Zealand that were involved. First time ever we had to run the meeting through zoom so talking to 40 odd people from around the country was quite weird but it worked. A number of remits were discussed and voted on with a collection of changes mostly good but a few I didn’t agree with but you all can see it all on the association website if you are interested in looking . Also senior and junior nationals were voted on where they should be hosted and that is also advertised on their website. Juniors next year will be in Porirua and Seniors will be in Wanganui. -

FAQS ABOUT COBRA PREMIUM ASSISTANCE UNDER THE AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN ACT OF 2021 April 07, 2021 Set out below are Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regarding implementation of certain provisions of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARP), as it app lies to the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985, commonly called COBRA. These FAQs have been prepared by the Department of Labor (DOL). Like previously issued FAQs (available at https://www.dol.gov/agencies/ebsa/about-ebsa/our-activities/resource-center/faqs), these FAQs answer questions from stakeholders to help individuals un derstand the law and benefit from it, as intended. The Department of the Treasury and the I nternal Revenue Service (IRS) have reviewed these FAQs, and, concur in the application of the laws under their jurisdiction as set forth in these FAQs. COBRA Continuation Coverage COBRA continuation coverage provides certain group health plan continuation coverage rights for participants and beneficiaries covered by a group health plan. In general, under COBRA, an individual who was covered by a group health plan on the day before the occurrence of a qualifying event (such as a termination of employment or a reduction in hours that causes loss of coverage under the plan) may be able to elect COBRA continuation coverage upon that qualifying event.1 Individuals with such a right are referred to as qualified beneficiaries. Under COBRA, group health plans must provide covered employees and their families with cer tain notices explaining their COBRA rights. ARP COBRA Premium Assistance Section 9501 of the ARP provides for COBRA premium assistance to help Assistance Eligible Individuals (as defined below in Q3) continue their health benefits. -

China Reshapes the Balance of Power
Critical Issues Confronting China: This is Sino Tap - My Life as a Chinese Rock Star Kaiser Kuo, Sinica Podcast/ChinaFile; former member of Tang Dynasty September 20, 2017 Kaiser Kuo is a musician at heart who happens to have been enamored with China. Although he now works at Sinica Podcast/ChinaFile, he spent considerable periods of his life in forming and performing with the band Tang Dynasty (1989-1999), and then another band Spring and Autumn (2001-2016). He gives a riveting account of his youth and his music career, and reflects with the benefit of hindsight about the trajectory and significance of rock music in China. Kuo is an American-born Chinese (ABC), and says he exhibits some features of the stereotypical ABC. As a young child, he was forced by his parents to take piano and violin lessons, plus Chinese lessons on weekends—so were his two brothers. According to Kuo, what sets him apart from his brothers is that both music and Chinese stuck with him and became important parts of his life. He later picked up cello and guitar and joined a band during high school. Even though his band was ridiculed by his peers, he kept up with it. Kuo went to University of California at Berkeley for college and thanks to Berkeley’s roommate matching system, he roomed with another student who liked the exact three bands as he did. Together, they began to experiment with progressive rock music, a genre that employs odd time signatures and non-traditional structures in an effort to elevate rock to the level of high art. -

The photolysis 15 rates are calculated using the FTUV (Li et al., 2005, 2011a, b), considering the effects of 16 aerosols and clouds on photolysis. -

Who produces indie? What is the ideology behind it? How can they realize their idealistic goals? Who participates in the indie community? What are the relationships among mainstream popular music, rock music and indie music? In this thesis, I study the production, circulation, and reception of Chinese indie music, with special attention paid to class, aesthetics, and the influence of the internet and globalization. Borrowing Stuart Hall’s theory of encoding/decoding, I propose that Chinese indie music production encodes ideologies into music. Pierre Bourdieu has noted that an individual’s preference, namely, tastes, corresponds to the individual’s profession, his/her highest educational degree, and his/her father’s profession. Whether indie audiences are able to decode the ideology correctly and how they decode it can be analyzed through Bourdieu’s taste and distinction theory, especially because Chinese indie music fans tend to come from a community of very distinctive, 20-to-30-year-old petite-bourgeois city dwellers. Overall, the thesis aims to illustrate how indie exists in between the incompatible poles of mainstream Chinese popular music and Chinese rock music, rephrasing mainstream and alternatives by mixing them in itself. -

I examine three significant roles – musicians, audiences, and mediators, and focus on the interaction between the localized Chinese metal scene and metal globalization. This thesis project uses multiple methods, including textual analysis, observation, surveys, and in-depth interviews. In this thesis, I illustrate an image of the Chinese metal scene, present the characteristics and the development of metal musicians, fans, and mediators in China, discuss their contributions to scene’s construction, and analyze various internal and external factors that influence the localization of metal in China. After that, I argue that the development and the localization of the metal scene in China goes through three stages, the emerging stage (1988-1996), the underground stage (1997-2005), the indie stage (2006-present), with Chinese characteristics.
