Volume XXV No. 43 Hometown Newspaper for Glen Cove, Sea Cliff, Glen Head, Glenwood, Locust Valley and Brookville Week of 7/7/16 75C July 4th Children’s Bike Parade Attracts Hundreds of Riders A Glen Cove tradition for over 20 years, the Annual Children’s bike parade took place on the morning of July 4 attracting hundreds of residents dresses on decorated bikes to celebrate America’s Independence. It all began when two Glen Cove residents, Cheryl Carmody and Patti Pilla, organized a small informal neighborhood parade with the children who lived in the area of the president’s streets. As it grew in popularity it was quickly moved to the downtown area. It was the perfect day for a bike ride through downtown Glen Cove with several hundred children and their families participating in the City’s annual event. Led by a costumed City Eagle with music by D.J. John Yee, bikes decorated in red, white and blue with kids wearing patriotic tee shirts, bandanas and sparkly accessories, made this traditional bike parade a spectacular vision to see. At the completion of the ride, Mayor Reggie Spinello invited children to join him on stage to sing a melody of patriotic songs while bike parade volunteers and continued on page 2 (photo by Anthony G. • GUNSMOKE TV CAST and DETAILS Premiered
GUNSMOKE TV CAST AND DETAILS Premiered: September 10, 1955, on CBS Rating: TV-PG Premise: This landmark adult Western centered on Marshal Matt Dillon of Dodge City. John Wayne turned down the lead, suggesting James Arness (who remained for its entire run). Originating on radio (with William Conrad as Dillon), it moved to TV in September 1955. Its popularity spawned a number of copycats, but none would enjoy the longevity (and few the consistent quality) of this classic. Airing for 20 years, it's TV's longest running prime-time drama (a record that `Law & Order' is currently chasing). Gunsmoke Cast • James Arness : Marshal Matt Dillon • Milburn Stone : Dr. Galen `Doc' Adams • Amanda Blake : Kitty Russell • Dennis Weaver : Chester Goode • Ken Curtis : Festus Haggen • Burt Reynolds : Quint Asper • James Nusser : Louie Pheeters • Charles Seel : Barney Danches • Howard Culver : Howie Culver • Tom Brown : Ed O'Connor • John Harper : Percy Crump • Dabbs Greer : Mr. Jonus • George Selk : Moss Grimmick • Hank Patterson : Hank Miller • Glenn Strange : Sam • Sarah Selby : Ma Smalley • Ted Jordan : Nathan Burke • Roger Ewing : Clayton Thaddeus `Thad' Greenwood • Roy Roberts : Mr. Bodkin • Woody Chamblis : Mr. Lathrop • Buck Taylor : Newly O'Brien • Charles Wagenheim : Halligan • Pat Hingle : Dr. John Chapman • Fran Ryan : Miss Hannah Gunsmoke Credits • Sam Peckinpah : Screenwriter Gunsmoke Directors • Harry Horner : Director Gunsmoke Guest Cast • Aaron Saxon : Basset • Aaron Spelling : Weed Pindle • Abraham Sofaer : Harvey Easter • Adam West : Hall

But it’s 1959, and my father’s plying with a broom. W hat’s more, it's the night before Christmas in Butte, Montana, where the miners are on strike, and here’s my long-legged father, knocking on ice. The broom’s straw doesn’t give because it’s stiff. My father has jerked the broom from a snowbank beside the carport—the carport he’d built the summer before, with salvaged 4x4 posts and corrugated Fiberglas. When it rains, or if snow melts, water sluices from wherever a nail has been hammered overhead, from the spidered cracks. The Fiberglas is a mint green that tints sun.
