The Prayers of the People 25 April 2021 The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine Bidding In peace, let us pray to the Lord saying: Lord, hear our prayer. Petition We join all the world’s Anglicans today in praying for Episcopal Anglican Church in Japan and, with the other Episcopalians in the Diocese of New York, we pray for the Right Reverend Mark Sisk, our retired bishop, on this, the anniversary of his ordination to the episcopate. Bidding Let us pray to the Lord. Response Lord, hear our prayer. Petition Let us pray for the Coptic Christians being persecuted and killed in Egypt. Let us pray for all of who suffer for the name of Christ and for the sake of his Gospel. Bidding Let us pray to the Lord. Response Lord, hear our prayer. Petition Let us pray for all the Eastern and Orthodox Churches who, along with our Coptic sisters and brothers, this day begin the celebration of Holy Week. Bidding Let us pray to the Lord. Response Lord, hear our prayer. Petition Let us pray for the people of Islam during their Ramadan fast; and let us pray for understanding, respect, and peace among all the children of Abraham: Jews and Christians and Muslims. Bidding Let us pray to the Lord. Response Lord, hear our prayer. Petition Let us continue to pray for an end to the COVID-19 crisis, and let us give thank for all who have cared for us in these pandemic days. Bidding Let us pray to the Lord. Response Lord, hear our prayer. Petition Let us pray for all the nations of the world. This week, let us bring before God especially the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the Caribbean as they struggle in the aftermath of the volcanic eruptions; and for their government; and for the nations and organizations seeking to being them relief. Bidding Let us pray to the Lord. Response Lord, hear our prayer. Petition Let us pray for the healing of the racism and the racial scars that wound the United States, espe- cially as they have shown themselves in Minneapolis. Let us pray that the verdict will marK a new beginning. Let us pray for the family of George Floyd in their grief. And let us pray for DereK Chauvin. Bidding Let us pray to the Lord. Response Lord, hear our prayer. Petition And let us pray for Ma'Khia Bryant: for her rest and resurrection, for the comfort of those who mourn her, and for the people of Columbus. Let us pray for the reform of our policing; and for those among the police who are good and honorable; and for the rebuilding of trust. Bidding Let us pray to the Lord. Response Lord, hear our prayer. Petition Let us be mindful of others in need or trouble. Our prayers have been asked this weeK for Luis Rivera Rivera, deacon; for Christine Bek; for John Castaldo; for B.E. Leissner; for Alonzo Jack- son; and for Nathaniel Queen. Let us call to mind others who are suffering, and let us bring their names to our lips. (A period of silence is kept.) Bidding Let us pray to the Lord. Response Lord, hear our prayer. Petition Let us pray in gratitude for all that is good in our lives. Above all, in these Great Fifty Days, let us give thanks that, by God’s grace, we are very members incorporate in the mystical body of God’s Son. As always, let us give thanks for those who make our common life here at the Cathe- dral possible by their generosity. What else calls forth thanks in us today? (A period of silence is kept.) The Presider says: O God our King, by the resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ on the first day of the week, you conquered sin, put death to flight, and gave us the hope of everlasting life: Redeem all our days by this victory; forgive our sins, banish our fears, make us bold to praise you and to do your will; and steel us to wait for the consummation of your kingdom on the last great Day; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. .
