The literature cited here now goes back to 2004. The databank of literature on Actinedida is becoming increasingly complete, presently comprising 4,939 papers on 1,455 species. This represents an increase by almost 10% (papers) and over 15% (species) this year alone. Since the literature of the Actinedida is vast, we have excluded as in past volumes two major taxa from the database: Eriophyidae and the paraphyletic group “Hydracarina”, since these are available elsewhere. Since the last issue, however, we include the Tarsonemidae, uniting the Bibliographia Actinedida with the Bibliographia Tarsonemidologica formerly published by RACK and MAHUNKA. The publications reflect the research interest on the taxonomically difficult Actinedida. This research is indeed being carried out worldwide. The present volume includes publications by researchers from 36 countries and 6 continents. The majority of first authors listed in this year’s volume come from the USA (13%), Japan (10%), China (6%) as well as Turkey and Brazil (both 5%). The recent publications on actinedid mites will continue to be published every year as far as we can ascertain them. We ask for your help in keeping our literature database on Actinedida as complete as possible. Please send us reprints or copies of all your papers on actinedid mites or, if this is not possible, complete reference citations so that we can include them in the list. The majority of the 304 publications listed this year again concern systematics and taxonomy (> 38%), i.e., descriptions of new taxa (102 papers), reviews (20 papers), redescriptions etc. Another major subject matter (> 20%) concerns ecological themes, i.e., general ecology, faunistics, life history or bionomy. Furthermore, economically important topics such as plant protection, acaricides, predator/prey relationships and biological mite control are strongly represented (22%). Other frequently published topics include, i.e., functional morphology, molecular genetics, sampling methods etc. In this volume, a total of 40 families are represented. The vast majority of the papers cited here deal with the economically important Tetranychidae (30%). Strongly represented are also the Parasitengona (19%) with 13 families. Other commonly represented families in this volume are Tarsonemidae, Syringophilidae and Stigmaeidae. Besides this literature database, the State Museum of Natural History in Görlitz maintains an Actinedida collection, also of reference species. We thus explicitly call for determined material. Type species may also be deposited in the acarological collections of the State Museum of Natural History in Görlitz. The availability of these collections is guaranteed, as presently numerous scientists and technical personnel are working with them. Access of the databank with the types and the original descriptions as well as previous issues of ACARI are now available via Internet (http://www.naturkundemuseum-goerlitz.de/acarologie/). As with any journal, mistakes and omissions are to be expected. Critique and suggestions are welcome and explicitly called for. Please inform us if we have failed to list any of your publications in the Bibliographia and we will include them in later volumes. With “ACARI”, we hope to advance and help disseminate acarological knowledge and are grateful for all help in accomplishing this task. Neubeschreibungen (102 Publikationen), Reviews (20 Arbeiten), Revisionen usw. 2 ACARI Bibliographia Acarologica 7 (3): 1-30, 2007 ISSN 1618-8977 Acarologische Literatur / Acarological literature Literaturzitate in fett gedruckter Schrift enthalten Beschreibungen neuer Arten. Acarina 16 (1): 3–19 © ACARINA 2008 CALYPTOSTASY: ITS ROLE IN THE DEVELOPMENT AND LIFE HISTORIES OF THE PARASITENGONE MITES (ACARI: PROSTIGMATA: PARASITENGONA) V. N. Belozerov St. Petersburg State University, Biological Research Institute, Stary Peterhof, 198504, RUSSIA, e-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT: The paper presents a review of available data on some aspects of calyptostasy, i.e. the alternation of active (normal) and calyptostasic (regressive) stages that is characteristic of the life cycles in the parasitengone mites. There are two different, non- synonymous approaches to ontogenetic and ecological peculiarities of calyptostasy in the evaluation of this phenomenon and its significance for the development and life histories of Parasitengona. The majority of acarologists suggests the analogy between the alternating calyptostasy in Acari and the metamorphic development in holometabolous insects, and considers the calyptostase as a pupa-like stage. This is controversial with the opposite view emphasizing the differences between calyptostases and pupae in regard to peculiarities of moulting events at these stages. However both approaches imply the similar, all-level organismal reorganization at them. The same twofold approach concerns the ecological importance of calyptostasy, i.e. its organizing role in the parasitengone life cycles. The main (parasitological) approach is based on an affirmation of optimizing role of calyptostasy through acceleration of development for synchronization of hatching periods in the parasitic parasitengone larvae and their hosts, while the opposite (ecophysiological) approach considers the calyptostasy as an adaptation to climate seasonality itself through retaining the ability for developmental arrests at special calyptostasic stages evoked from normal active stages as a result of the life cycle oligomerization.

In pristine natural springs with permanent flow, water mites are nearly always present and usually display high diversity. This study aimed to determine whether significant differences in water mite assemblages between rheocrene (river-forming springs with dominant riffle habitats) and limnocrene (lake-forming springs with dominant pool habitats) karst springs could be detected in terms of species richness, diversity and abundance, but also in different ratios of specific synecological groups: crenobiont (exclusively found in springs), crenophilous (associated with springs) and stygophilous (associated with groundwater) water mite taxa. Our research was carried out on four limnocrenes and four rheocrenes in the Dinaric karst region of Croatia. Seasonal samples (20 sub-samples per sampling) were taken at each spring with a 200-µm net, taking into consideration all microhabitat types with coverage of at least 5%.

Abstract: Rhinonyssidae (Mesostigmata) is a family of nasal mites only found in birds. All species are hematophagous endoparasites, which may damage the nasal cavities of birds, and also could be potential reservoirs or vectors of other infections. However, the role of members of Rhinonyssidae as disease vectors in wild bird populations remains uninvestigated, with studies of the microbiomes of Rhinonyssidae being almost non-existent. In the nasal mite (Tinaminyssus melloi) from rock doves (Columba livia), a previous study found evidence of a highly abundant putatively endosymbiotic bacteria from Class Alphaproteobacteria. Here, we expanded the sample size of this species (two Citation: Osuna-Mascaró, C.; Doña, different hosts- ten nasal mites from two independent samples per host), incorporated contamination J.; Johnson, K.P.; de Rojas, M. • Parasitengona Terrestria (Acari, Actinedida) Roztocza
POLSKA AKADEMIA NAUK MUZEUM I INSTYTUT ZOOLOGII FRAGMENTA FAUNISTICA Tom 37 W arszawa, 31 XII 1994 Nr 4 Grzegorz Gabryś, Joanna Mąkol Parasitengona terrestria [Acari, Actinedida) Roztocza A bstract. The area of Roztocze (SE Poland) was faunistically and ecologically studied with respect to Its terrestrial Parasitengona. Fifty five species of five superfamilies were recorded; all the species are new for Roztocze and 29 new to the fauna of Poland. Zawyża to liczbę znanych gatunków i rodzajów, zwłaszcza w obrębie nadrodziny Erythraeoidea. Zmiana tej sytuacji będzie możliwa dopiero po poznaniu i zestawieniu stadiów rozwojowych wszystkich taksonów. Dotychczas nie prowadzono w Polsce szeroko zakrojonych badań regional nych nad omawianą grupą roztoczy, a wszelkie dane pochodzą z prac o chara kterze taksonomicznym bądź z przyczynkarskich badań faunistycznych, często przedwojennych.
