The Natural History Museum in Görlitz has a long history of soil-zoological research, so that it was only logical that the Bibliographia be extended by this third, important soil-mite group. -

Seven new larva1 mites (Acari, Prostlgmata, Erythraeidae) from 1ran.- Seven new larval mites are described: Hauptmannia ostovani n. sp. obtained from undetermined Aphididae (Homoptera), a species with thick and sharptipped accessory claw on palptibia and without pectinala on palptarsus; H. iranican. sp. from plants, without pectinala on palptarsus and bearing numerous setae on dorsal and ventral surfaces (NDV over 170); H. khanjaniin. sp. from plants, with pectinala on palptarsus and has shorter L, W and ISD than the other species of this group; Leptus fathipeurin. sp. from plants with two palpgenualae; Erythraeus(E.)akbarianin.sp. from unidentified Aphididae; it has very short ASE; E. (E.) sabrinae n. sp. from undetermined Aphididae; this species is similar to E. adrasatus, E. kresnensisand E. akbariani, differing mainly in number of dorsal and ventral setae and E.@aracarus) tehranicusn. sp. from plants; one of the three species of this subgenus, differs mainly from the other two by shorter tarsi and tibiae l. Previously, only one species of Trombidium had been reported from Turkey. Five species of the genus Trombidium were identified and original drawings based on the collected materials were made. These species are new records for the Turkish mite fauna. An identification key to the adult Turkish species of Trombidium is also provided. Received: 04/11/2017 Accepted: 14/12/2017 Abstract Most larvae of Erythraeidae are considered as parasites of various insect species, and their adults seem to be effective generalist predators of several agricultural pests. Studies of this fauna is limited in Syria. The present study aimed to identify mite species of Erythraeidae in a pesticide-free citrus orchard in Latakia governorate/Syria. Surveys were carried out three times in 2016 and 2017. Three Erythraeid species were collected, and all belong to the genus Erythraeus: Erythraeus (Erythraeus) phalangoides, Erythraeus (Erythraeus) adanaensis and Erythraeus (Zaracarus) didonae. This is the first report of these species in Syria. Morphological remarks of each species were collected and provided. Keywords: Acari, Erythraeidae, Erythraeus, larva, Syria Introduction Recent advances in knowledge of mite fauna in Syrian agro-ecosystems are took place. Actually, the number of reported species from Syria increased from about 15 species in 2012 to more than 80 species in 2017 (Zriki et al., 2015; Barbar, 2016, 2017; Zeity, 2017; Barbar and Ueckermann, 2017), and more species still to be discovered. The family Erythraeidae presently comprises more than 300 nominal species (Gerson et al., 2009; Krantz and Walter, 2009). Most larvae of these mites are parasites of various arthropods, but adults have been shown to be effective generalist predators of several agricultural pests including insects and spider mites (Zhang, 2003; Gerson et al., 2009). -

Balaustium mite Balaustium medicagoense click for html version Summary: Balaustium mites are emerging as a significant crop pest in agricultural areas across southern Australia. They are the largest of the pest mites commonly found in broadacre crops. This species has a high natural tolerance to many insecticides and will generally survive applications aimed at other mite pests. Other strategies that are not reliant on chemicals, such as early control of summer weeds, should be considered. Occurrence: Balaustium mites are broadly distributed across the southern coastal regions of Australia. They are sporadically found in areas with a Mediterranean climate in Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and Western Australia. They have also been found in Tasmania although their exact distribution is unclear. Balaustium mites are typically active from March to November, although mites can persist on green feed during summer if available. The known distribution of Balaustium mites in Australia (Source: cesar) Description: All mites are wingless and have four pairs of legs, no external segmentation of the abdomen and individuals appear as a single body mass. Balaustium mites grow to 2 mm in length and have a rounded red-brown body with eight red-orange legs. They are easily distinguished from other crop mites as they are much larger in size. Adults are covered with short stout hairs and are slow moving. They have distinctive pad like structures on their forelegs. Newly hatched mites are bright orange with six legs and are only 0.2 mm in length. HAITLINGER Abstract: Four new mites: Canestrinia berndi n. sp. from Hercegovina obtained from Carabus latenulatus plassensis (Coleoptera, Carabidae), Erythraeus mahvinae n. sp. from Germany, Microtrombidium wilibaldi n. sp. from Austria and Campylo- thrombium schwangauensis n. sp. from Germany are described. Pholia bardoica (Astigmata, Canestriniidae) and Hauptmannia brevicollis are new for the Austrian fauna; Erythraeus monikae, H. brevicollis and Podolhrombium piriformis are new for the German fauna. Key-words: Acari, taxonomy, faunistics, Austria, Germany, Hercegovina. Introduction In this paper four new species belonging to the families Canestriniidae, Erythraeidae, Trombidiidae and Microtrombidiidae, all associated with various insects, are described. Canestrinia berndi n. sp. belongs to the genus distributed only in the Palearctic Region. To date 8 species of this genus are known in Europe, which are usually associated with beetles belonging to the genus Carabus (except C. dorcicola associated with Dorcus paralellopipedus L. (Lucanidae) and C. samsinaki BERON associated with Gnaptor sp. (Tenebrionidae)) (SAMSINAK 1971, BERON 1975, HAITLINGER 1988b). Erythraeus malwinae n. sp. belongs to the genus which larval stage are ectoparasites on Homoptera. To date 11 species of this genus based on larvae were known from Europe (HAITLINGER 1987,1994b). Campyiothrombium schwangauensis n. sp. and Microtrombidium wilibaldi n. sp. belong to the family Microtrombidiidae. This family is composed of about 12 genera, of which Ettmulleria OUD. and Willmanella FEIDER are known only from larval stages.
