This was mainly attributable to the upward revision of the sales volume and the foreign exchange rate assumptions in the international tobacco business. Even in this severe economic environment, our market share is solidly increasing in major markets worldwide. By making necessary investments and organizing the business foundation, we aim to gain customer approval and achieve further growth in the economic recovery. In the domestic tobacco business, the sales volume projection was revised downward by 0.5 billion cigarettes due to a slight acceleration of the secular decline in overall demand, however, concerning profits, effects of a decrease in sales volume is expected to be offset by cost reduction efforts.

  • Persistence in the Official World Golf Rankings
PERSISTENCE IN THE OFFICIAL WORLD GOLF RANKINGS A THESIS Presented to The Faculty of the Department of Economics and Business The Colorado College In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Bachelor of Arts By Mason Bergh December 2018 PERSISTENCE IN THE OFFICIAL WORLD GOLF RANKINGS Mason Bergh December 2018 Economics Abstract This paper builds on decades of hot hand effect research. Belief in persistent success or failure is common in sports despite a lack of statistical evidence supporting the phenomenon. Using weekly ranking data for 60 professional golfers around the world, this study deploys an ordinary least squares regression to analyze if persistent rank movement exists in the Official World Golf Rankings. This study hypothesizes that persistence does not exist outside of chance because significant evidence is needed to support the existence of streaks in golf ranks. Like previous studies, the results suggest that streaks do occur, but true statistical evidence to reject the hypothesis was not present. • Clutch Strokes: Performance Under Pressure in Golf
COLLEGE OF THE HOLY CROSS Clutch Strokes: Performance Under Pressure in Golf Jeffrey Paadre This paper examines 10 years worth of PGA Tour Tournament data in order to examine whether or not clutch performance exists during the final round of a tournament. After controlling scores for differences in course difficulty, the paper finds no evidence of tangible clutch performance. The authors find that the perception of clutch performance is more likely attributable to talent differential between golfers. Assuming a normal distribution of golfer talent, it is possible that Tiger Woods can outshoot his opponents on the final day of a tournament as well as lose his lead to his competitors. Motivation and Literature In professional sports, heroes can be created through the concept of clutch performance. The perception of clutch performance occurs when an athlete raises his or her performance to an extraordinary level during the most important moments of a sporting event. Athletes such as David Ortiz and Adam Vinatieri have been immortalized as legends due to their consistent ability to help their teams win baseball and football games during important games where the outcome was hanging in the balance. Conversely Bill Buckner and Scott Norwood are amongst the unfortunate athletes burdened with reputations as choke artists based on their inability to perform well when their teams needed a high performance the most. One of the challenges that accompanies examining performance under pressure lies within trying to define which performances constitute clutch performance. For example, in 2005 John Henry, the owner of the Boston Red Sox, presented David Ortiz with a plaque inscribed “David Ortiz: The Greatest Clutch Hitter in the History of the Boston Red Sox”.

Callaway Golf's ERC II Driver and CTU 30 Golf Ball Highlight a Winning Weekend On World Professional Tours May 20, 2002 CARLSBAD, Calif., May 20, 2002 (BW SportsWire) -- Callaway Golf (NYSE: ELY) Staff Professional Kenichi Kuboya yesterday became the latest golfer to win with the Company's Big Bertha(R) ERC(R) II Forged Titanium Driver. Kuboya's sudden-death victory at the prestigious Japan PGA Championship was one of two wins for the Company's CTU 30(TM) golf balls, highlighting a successful weekend during which Callaway Golf(R) clubs and balls were used to win multiple events on the world's professional tours. Kuboya shot a bogey-free 67 in the final round at Koma Country Club in Nara, Japan, and then won in a playoff over Shingo Katayama. Kuboya is one of the longest drivers on the Japan Golf Tour, ranking seventh last season with a driving distance average of 289.2 yards using his ERC II Forged Titanium Driver. Kuboya's victory is the second of the season for the ERC II Driver. In all, Kuboya used 11 Callaway Golf clubs at the Japan PGA Championship, including Steelhead(TM) X-14(R) Pro Series Irons and an Odyssey(R) TriHot(TM) 3 Putter. Six of the top 10 finishers at the event used Odyssey Putters. Kuboya's victory using Callaway Golf's CTU 30 Red golf ball was the 11th win of the year for that ball model across the world's six major professional tours combined. The Callaway Golf ball victory was the second straight on the Japan Golf Tour, where the CTU 30 Red has now been used to win four of the six events this year.
