Blue Crabs get routed by Ducks in game one

Waldorf, MD —The bats were booming on Friday night, as the struck early and often pounding out 22 hits and four home runs to crush the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 15-2 at Regency Furniture Stadium.

In the top of the second, Long Island’s short stop Dan Lyons, stepped up to the plate and immediately a single off of Blue Crab’s starting pitcher Gaby Hernandez making his way to second on an by the center fielder, later scoring on infielder Mark Minicozzi’s RBI single who went five for six on the night.

Designated hitter Mike Blanke and left fielder Anthony Vega belted a pair of back-to-back jacks to extend the lead 5-0. The very next inning, Lyons destroyed a two- to continue the onslaught.

In the fourth inning, Long Island’s right fielder Fehlandt Lentini greeted Hernandez with a solo homer to increase the score 8-0. Hernandez was later chased after giving up a total of four runs, two singles and a walk in the inning.

Hernandez finished his night allowing 12 hits, and giving up 11 runs in three and one-thirds innings. Blue Crabs manager Jeremy Owens passed the torch to reliever Ian Marshall who also struggled, allowing ten hits and four runs in four and two-thirds innings.

The Blue Crabs avoided a shut out by scoring two runs in the fourth when second baseman Gary Brown ripped a two-run bomb but the damage was already done.

The Ducks felt no mercy in the eighth producing three singles and a walk to add two more runs to finish off their offensive explosion.

Game two of the series will take place tomorrow evening at Regency Furniture Stadium. The first pitch is set for 6:35 P.M. It is "Paint the Park Pink" night in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness.
