PAUL WILLIAMS President and Chairman of the Board

January 2019

Dear ASCAP member,

Happy new year! Enclosed is your first ASCAP distribution of 2019, reflecting performances of your music between April and June of last year.

Before we close the books on 2018, take a moment to reflect on how much the ASCAP family accomplished over the past year. You set records, topped charts and critics’ lists, and broke through glass ceilings. You won Grammys and Latin Grammys, Tonys and Emmys, Golden Globes and World Soundtrack Awards, CMA Awards, GMA Dove Awards and the Pulitzer Prize. The Songwriters Hall of Fame inducted ASCAP legends Ronald Bell (of Kool & The Gang), Jermaine Dupri, Alan Jackson and John Mellencamp into its hallowed ranks, and The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced that , , and (all ASCAP via PRS) would be the next to join. Last month 214 of you were nominated for Grammys at the 2019 ceremony, led by Kendrick Lamar, with an incredible eight nods. The season of celebration continues.

2018 will also be remembered as the year that we passed the Music Modernization Act - legislation that will help reform our outdated music licensing system and give ASCAP members the opportunity to receive compensation reflecting the true value of our work. Nearly the entire music industry rallied behind the MMA, and your support was instrumental in getting it passed unanimously by Congress. We music creators are collaborators by our nature. It is incredible what we can do when we work together.

Speaking of which, ASCAP recently made a donation to MusiCares® - a charity of the Recording Academy™ - to support our friends in the music community whose lives have been impacted by the devastating wildfires in California. If you have been affected and need assistance with shelter, food, gear replacement and more, we urge you to request disaster relief by contacting MusiCares toll-free at 1.800.687.4227. If you would like to help out your fellow music creators in need, you can donate to the relief efforts at www.musicares.org/donate.

Want to ramp up your music career in the new year? Register for the 14th annual ASCAP “I Create Music” EXPO, returning to Hollywood May 2-4. Our Discount Days pricing lasts through Valentine’s Day - find out more at www.ascap.com/expo.

Wishing you a successful and fulfilling 2019,

Paul Williams
