According to the information of the Romanian-Lebanese bilateral relations to be found on the site of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in late June 2010 trade exchanges with Lebanon amounted to 104.660 million dollars, 2.046 of which were imports and 102.614 million were exports. According to a release, during the meeting with Wolfgang Waldner, Bogdan Aurescu approached priority areas of bilateral, regional and European cooperation. The two Secretaries of State confirmed the priority given by both Romania and Austria to the Danube Strategy, in their capacity as co-initiators, and entered in details regarding the working out, financing and implementation of joint projects under this macro-regional cooperation initiative. The Romanian official underscored the necessity of maintaining a strong political commitment to the Strategy's success, as well as of implementing EU-funded projects, in order to prove its efficiency. State Secretary Aurescu said that 2012 is a crucial year for the implementation of the Danube Strategy and its projects. On bilateral level, the two officials discussed ways to intensify high-level political contacts and agreed that the mechanism of Romania-Austria regular consultations at the level of Secretary of State should continue, with a new meeting in Bucharest being set for this year. Given that Austria is one of Romania's main economic partners, ranking second among the most significant foreign investors, the sides tackled a series of economic and financial aspects, in particular maintaining trade exchanges and Austrian investments in Romania at a high level. The talks confirmed the positive development of the important relation of economic partnership between the two states. State Secretary Bogdan Aurescu voiced hope that the recommendations adopted by the National Bank of Austria at the end of 2011 on limiting the lending to Central and Eastern Europe would not be applied in order to generate negative effects upon the Romanian banking sector and economy. Both officials hailed the quality of the bilateral dialogue on energy and highlighted the need to boost the Nabucco project as a strategic option for ensuring the European energy security.
