An apprentice from Toromont Cat’s Peter- borough, Ontario location has won gold in the Heavy Equipment Service category at the 2018 Skills Ontario Competition. On May 8, Toromont apprentice Kaleb Czyruk joined more than 2,300 other par- ticipants in about 70 skilled trades and technology contests. During the competition, several stations were set up with a variety of challenges such as electrical system troubleshooting, hydraulic system troubleshooting, engine troubleshooting, powertrain troubleshooting and precision measuring. Each competitor was evaluated on their ability to work safely, solve problems, re- cord accurate measurements and follow documented procedures. At the end of the competition, when all the scores were tallied, Czyruk placed first overall to take home the gold medal. They can be deployed in applications ranging from fencing to decks, building additions to garages and, when Type design notes here. accompanied by a full foundation, steel piles can take on the role of deep footings. Premade under factory conditions, steel pilings boast a structural consistency that results in less time-consuming, on-site building inspections. If these attributes are not enough, there is now a plasma cutting technology that further enhances the piles’ appeal. MotoCut, a company based in Finland, has introduced a fully-automated, self-contained P-400 plasma cutter that runs off any 13-to-20 ton hydraulic excavator with a hammer line and tilt-rotator. The computer-controlled cutting process increases both quality and productivity. The pile cutter may be operated solely by the excavator driver without the need for extra labour. Continuing its “smart-growth” strategy of delivering new product innovations, Indeco North America has introduced the IMH Series, the company’s latest line of high-perform- ance hydraulic mulching heads. Specifically designed for a broad range of land clearing, site preparation, invasive vegetation management and storm damage removal applications, the new IMH Series utilizes an excavator’s auxiliary hydraulics and is tailored to fit a wide range of carriers from 5 to 50 tons. “These new mulching heads represent the culmination of over 40 years of experience in the hydraulic attachment business,” said Mike Fischer, CEO of Indeco North Amer- ica. “The end result is a product line that not only achieves superior production results in the field but also provides real, lasting benefits to the environment. ” The IMH mulching heads are available in 10 direct-drive and belt-driven models and feature Hardox components and bodies to improve service life. The mulching heads are suitable for maintaining right- of-way for pipe and power lines; power distribution and substation facilities; highways and roads; telecommuni- cation lines; residential and commercial farms as well as ski resorts and other specialized field maintenance venues. Compared to the cost of manual clearing, using a crew of workers with chainsaws and chippers or environmentally damaging burning, Indeco’s IMH series is an easy, one-step, environment-friendly process that puts unwanted vegetation back into the ecosystem as mulch to protect the soil from wind and rain erosion while providing it with beneficial microorganisms to make it more fertile. As well, the attachment is built with a single piece shaft and severe duty bearings; a unique tooth design for optimal cutting and interchangeable mounting brackets.
