Picture Kiosk GS Compact lets customers quickly make 4 x 6 in. (10 x 15 cm), 5 x 7 in. (13 x 18 cm), and 6 x 8 in. (15 x 20 cm) prints, ID Photos, greeting cards and invitations, and KODAK Picture CDs from digital pictures. The Kiosk consists of the Console and KODAK 605 Photo Printer. Console Touch-Screen Display USB Port Camera Card Readers for: SECURE DIGITAL MULTIMEDIA MEMORY STICK MEMORY STICK PRO COMPACTFLASH SMARTMEDIA XD-PICTURE Cards 605 Photo Printer Compatible with BLUETOOTH® Technology Print Catcher Enabled Devices CD Drive 605 Photo Printer Printer Power Cord USB Cable Console Power Switch Console Power Cord 4 605 Photo Printer Top Cover Cover Release Trim Tray Operator Panel Print Exit Filter Openings Paper Access Door USB Cable Power Switch Data Plate Power Cord 5 Product Choices Customers start their order by inserting their digital media. They can select from: • Print All—Make 4 x 6 in. (10 x 15 cm) prints of all the pictures on the input media in two steps. • Selective Printing & CD—Select pictures, make edits, and make prints and/or a KODAK Picture CD. • ID Photos—Create ID Photos. • Create Cards—Make greeting cards and invitations with borders with text. Startup and Shutdown To start up the Kiosk: 1. Move the power switch to On ( I ). To shut down the Kiosk: 1. From the Main screen, touch Kodak twice. 2. Touch the System Ta b. 3. Touch Shutdown System. 4. At the message prompt, touch Yes. 5. Move the power switch to Off (0). IMPORTANT: If the Auto Startup Feature is enabled, the power switch must stay in the On position. When the receipt printer runs out of paper, a paper empty message appears on the screen. When this happens, load a new roll of paper into the receipt printer. 1. 2. B A B A 3. 4. 5. Note: Hold the paper roll so that the feed paper rolls off the top. 7. 6. B A 10 Cleaning Follow these cleaning recommendations to keep the Console and Printer in good working condition. Console CAUTION: • Never use abrasives or harsh chemicals to clean any part of the Kiosk. • Do not use window cleaner, alcohol (methyl, ethyl or isopropyl) or any strong solvent. • Do not wipe the screen with a cloth or sponge that could scratch the surface. • Turn off and unplug the Kiosk before performing maintenance procedures. Display Printer CAUTION: • Alcohol is a flammable liquid. It can cause eye irritation and dry skin. Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause drying, cracking, or irritation. Wash hands with soap and water following maintenance procedures where you use alcohol pads. For additional information, see the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). For additional MSDS information, visit: www.msds.kodak.com/hsewww/external/index.jsp • Never use abrasives or harsh chemicals to clean any part of the printer. • The thermal head becomes extremely hot during normal operation. Wait approximately five minutes to begin cleaning the head after you open the cover. Fingerprints can damage the thermal head, which looks like a glass bar. Never touch it with your bare hands or fingers. 11 IMPORTANT: When performing maintenance procedures: • Shut down, turn off, and unplug the Kiosk. • Remove paper and ribbon from the printer. • Allow components to dry completely.     KODAK MILESTONES 1879 - Eastman invented an emulsion-coating machine which enabled him to mass- produce photographic dry plates. 1880 - Eastman began commercial production of dry plates in a rented loft of a building in Rochester, N.Y. 1881 - In January, Eastman and Henry A. Strong (a family friend and buggy-whip manufacturer) formed a partnership known as the Eastman Dry Plate Company. ♦ In September, Eastman quit his job as a bank clerk to devote his full time to the business. 1883 - The Eastman Dry Plate Company completed transfer of operations to a four- story building at what is now 343 State Street, Rochester, NY, the company's worldwide headquarters. 1884 - The business was changed from a partnership to a $200,000 corporation with 14 shareowners when the Eastman Dry Plate and Film Company was formed. ♦ EASTMAN Negative Paper was introduced. ♦ Eastman and William H. Walker, an associate, invented a roll holder for negative papers. 1885 - EASTMAN American Film was introduced - the first transparent photographic "film" as we know it today. ♦ The company opened a wholesale office in London, England. 1886 - George Eastman became one of the first American industrialists to employ a full- time research scientist to aid in the commercialization of a flexible, transparent film base. 1888 - The name "Kodak" was born and the KODAK camera was placed on the market, with the slogan, "You press the button - we do the rest." This was the birth of snapshot photography, as millions of amateur picture-takers know it today. 1889 - The first commercial transparent roll film, perfected by Eastman and his research chemist, was put on the market.

    Disruptive Innovations applied: A review of the imaging industry By Stefan Kohn Over 30 years ago Steve Jasson a Kodak engineer invented in 1975 the first digital camera and by that started the disruptive transformation of his industry.1 During this transformation Kodak who once had over 140.000 thousand employees end of the 60ies reduced it workforce to around 20.000 today2 with shedding around 100.000 jobs since 1988 alone3. Other well-known imaging firms like AgfaPhoto went bankrupt or like Konica und Minolta ceased their imaging activities and concentrated on other fields4. While the established imaging companies struggled with the disruptive invention of the digital camera other companies like Nokia – who today is the biggest maker of digital cameras since most mobile phones include a digital camera module – profited from this development.5 Another company that was and still is in the midst of this transformation is Fuji Photo Film, today Fujifilm. Fujifilm was founded in 1934 and soon became the number two imaging company behind Kodak with a strong market leadership in its home market in Japan. While Fujifilm and Kodak had a decade long rivalry in its imaging market their answers to the digitalization have been quite different. On the one hand Kodak focused on the digital imaging market by building one of the leading online photo services (Kodak Gallery), installing digital print kiosks on a global scale (Kodak Picture Kiosk), becoming one of the leading digital camera makers (Kodak easyshare), moving to the ink jet printer market (Kodacolor) and selling other businesses like the health business to finance the transition.
