Osleni Y Coelho Avanzan En Panamericano De Bádminton Osleni y Coelho avanzan en Panamericano de bádminton La Habana.- LA EXTENSA jornada de apertura del XXI Campeonato Panamericano de bádminton se desarrolló este jueves sin novedad en el Coliseo de la Ciudad Deportiva, luego que todos los sembrados ganaron sus respectivos partidos. En la modalidad individual, el cubano Osleni Guerrero, cuarto ubicado en el organigrama, fue bye en la primera ronda y derrotó en la segunda a Lucas Constant Da Silva, de Brasil, en dos idénticos parciales de 21-13. El líder del ranking continental Ygor Coelho, también de esa nación sudamericana, venció al peruano Nicolás Macías 21-13 y 21-9, mientras el segundo, el estadounidense Bjorn Seguin se impuso al canadiense Andrew Zhuang en doble 21-12. En otros resultados avanzó Howard Shu (3), de Estados Unidos, victimario del canadiense Luke Couture 21-12 y 21-19 y el guatemalteco Rubén Castellanos (5) ganó por no presentación de su rival de Colombia, país que no asistió finalmente. El mexicano Lino Muñoz (6) superó al peruano Daniel La Torre 21-17 y 21-11; el guatemalteco Anibal Marroquín (7) por no presentación del adversario colombiano y el mexicano Job Castillo (8) eliminó al cubano Lázaro Madera con parciales de 21-14 y 21-15. En el single femenino la anfitriona Taimara Oropeza abrió bien con categórico triunfo ante la guatemalteca Nikte Sotomayor 21-12 y 21-14 como en marzo en el Giraldilla de La Habana, importante si se tiene en cuenta que es una posible rival en los Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe del 2018. Pero tropezó en la segunda fase con la indonesia radicada en Estados Unidos Jamie Subandhi, que salió victoriosa 21-15 y 21-14, nada sorprendente si se tiene en cuenta que es multimedallista en el continente y concluyó vigésima en los Juegos Olímpicos de Río 2016. Otra local que debutó con éxito frente a la guatemalteca Mariana Paiz 21-11 y 21-6, sin embargo cayó ante la mexicana Sabrina Solis 25-27 y 12-21, la misma visitante que eliminó en la primera ronda a la también cubana Thalia Mengana 21-9 y 21-16. Por su parte Adriana Artiz tampoco pudo continuar en esta modalidad, pues fue superada por la canadiense Stephanie Pakenham 21-18 y 21-14. Otra norteña, la primera sembrada Michelle Li hizo honor a su posición al dominar a la peruana Haramara Gaitán 23-21 y 21-11. En otros resultados de los jugadores de la sede Leodannis Martínez y Taimara Oropeza avanzaron a la segunda ronda al imponerse al doble mixto de Iván León y Camila Macaya 21-16 y 21-11, y este viernes enfrentarán a sus compatriotas Ángel Herrera y Yeily Ortiz. Ernesto Reyes y Adriana Artiz perdieron frente a los canadienses Alexander Lindeman y Josephine Wu 21-19, 11-21 y 11-21, así como Lázaro Madera y Thalia Mengana contra los guatemaltecos Castellanos y Nikte 12-21 y 16-21. Este viernes habrá una jornada más extensa que la de hoy, pues comienza a las 9 de la mañana y el último cotejo está previsto a las 8:05 de la noche para definir los que pasan a semifinales. Para el cubano Osleni Guerrero las dos primeras jornadas de la competencia de single del bádminton de los XVII Juegos Panamericanos han sido una suerte de calentamiento. Este domingo, por ejemplo, despachó al dominicano Javier Ozuna en dos mangas: 21-9 y 21-15. El primer set fue un reflejo de la superioridad de Osleni, ubicado a la cabeza del ranking continental y en el puesto 50 del listado mundial. En el segundo, se relajó un poco y llegó a estar por debajo 12 puntos a 7. A partir de ahí impuso su linaje y concretó el éxito con el cual avanzó a los cuartos de finales. Esta es una competencia muy importante para el muchacho de La Habana. Primero porque quiere ratificar sobre la cancha su condición de líder del continente, y segundo porque tiene la posibilidad de vengarse de su más enconado rival, el guatemalteco Kevin Cordon, su victimario en las finales de Guadalajara-2011 y de los Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe en Veracruz el año pasado. «Estoy preparado para esta competencia, vine por el oro, esa es mi meta y estoy concentrado en eso. Sé que Kevin tiene ese propósito también. Veremos a ver quién gana, pero estoy optimista», me comentó Osleni.     Cuban Osleni Guerrero Wins Gold at Pan Am Badminton Championship Oct 28, -- Cuban Osleni Guerrero has won the gold medal at the 18th Pan-American Badminton Championship defeating Sattawat Pongnairat, from the United States, 2-1 in the final. After losing the first set 17-21 at the Palacio de los Deportes del Centro Olímpico, in the second set, Guerrero beat Pongnairat 21-6, who was ranked first in the men´s single. In the 3rd set, Guerrero, who was ranked 2nd, kept his pace and finally defeated Pongnairat 21-10. This was the best performance by a Cuban representative to the tournament. "I have a great satisfaction, I feel very happy, this success is for the whole family, especially for my mom", Guerrero said to Prensa Latina news agency and Cuban television after being congratulated by the Cuban Ambassador here, Alexis Bandrich.
