Publicado por: Norland Rosendo Esa es la pregunta que se están haciendo por estos días varios de los mejores badmintonistas de América tras el fiasco del torneo Abierto de Perú, donde ninguno llegó a la final. A partir de mañana, no pocos de los que acudieron a Lima intentarán un resultado más alentador en el Internacional de Chile. En ese certamen están inscritos el guatemalteco Kevin Cordon y el cubano Osleni Guerrero, sembrados uno y dos, por lo que solo se verían —si avanzan ambos —en la discusión del título que otorgará al vencedor 2500 puntos para el ranking mundial. En Lima, Kevin no pasó de su primer duelo y Osleni cayó en cuartos de finales. Según el organigrama de la justa, hoy se efectuará la ronda eliminatoria para aquellos atletas cuyo ranking no les permitió incluirse directamente en el grupo de 32. Así, el habanero debutará mañana ante el turco Enis Sesalan, colocado en el puesto 175 en el listado universal. Siete de los diez badmintonistas que encabezan el escalafón de América estarán en la urbe chilena de Temuco. Además de Kevin (primero en el continente y 52 en el listado mundial) y Osleni (quinto y 67), competirán el brasileño Daniel Paiola (cuarto y 64), el canadiense Martin Giuffre (séptimo y 101), el peruano Andrés Corpancho (octavo y 110), el brasileño Alex Yuwan Tjong (noveno y 111) y el también anfitrión Mario Cuba (décimo y 115).

The race was won by the US with 8:00.62 min., a record for the championship, followed by Polish (8:11.36), and Australians with 8:13.97. The Cuban relay, composed of Sahily Diago, Rose Mary Almanza, Gilda and Arletis Thaureaux Casanova registered 8:15.84, Cuban national record and the best result for Cuba in the World Athletics of Nassau. The American quartet ratified the title won last year, while Poland and Australia rose for the 1st time on the podium in that event. Chess Cuban chess player Leinier Dominguez won his 2nd victory in the Russian Chess League and gave the victory to his club, the St. Petersburg team, by 3.5 to 2.5 over the SHSM team, from Moscow, in the 3rd round of the event, which takes place in the Russian resort of Sochi. Leinier defended for the 2nd consecutive day the St. Petersburg's 3rd board with white pieces and won the Russian GM Eugeni Najer, owner of 2663 Elo points. The other 5 games ended in tables: the also GMs Peter Svidler, Nikita Vitiugov, Maxim Matlakov, Maxim Rodhstein and Croatian Ivan Saric also competed for the St. Petersburg club. After the Sunday games, the St. Petersburg team goes in 3rd place with 4 points, preceded by the local University and Siberia teams, with 6 pts each, while the Malachite team closes the table with only 2 pts.
