The action improved toward the end of the first act with a much anticipated sex- ual encounter between Jerry and Mark. ThOugh rather lengthy, it was forthe most part enjoyable and convincingly erotic due to outstanding blocking and direction by Watts and the chemistry created by the ac- tors. Watts' spotlights and Techno music added to the steamy, pulsating scene, which metamorphosed into tenderness in the final moments of the first act as a satisfied Jerry reported to Brian in the heavens. "Forthe first time in a long time, I feel good. In a funny way, I almost wish you were here .... " Jerry gets his wish in the second act as the jealous Brian descends from heaven to be reunited with Jerry, only to find him preparing for another date with Mark. Colin McLetchie's sassy, mischievous charac- terization of the ghost was lively and helped the pace of the show. When Mark arrives, the enraged spirit has a field day with the pair as he chastises Jerry while not allow- ing Mark to see or hear him. Watts' block- ing and direction of the actors was com- mendable in this sequence, giving it the magic of a Spielberg film without a fraction of the budget. Despite exceptional efforts by the ac- tors and good direction by Watts, this pro- duction falls way short due to the unsalv- ageable script. It's more of a peep show than a play, and it's no wonder the play- wright was not given a biography in the program. One can't take a poor script, add sex and local references and turn it into a good one. As a director, Watts has consistently produced quality works for Houston's gay community and in return he as received its support. He is no less than a wizard at marketing his projects, successfully so- liciting financial support from local busi- nesses and organizations, obtaining pub- llclty and reviews from major Houston publlcatlons, and filling seats in the house. Unfortunately, this material does not merit his talents.

"MiSS Thing ... There is no guest list tonight!" Spring 1992 and U'I Louis climbs the dance charts once again for the first time since "French Kiss" with "Club Lonely." One problem ... he forgot to take Joi Cardwell with him. No problem, it's 1995 and Miss Cardwell is doing fine on the charts all by herself. Over the past year, she has enjoyed fabulous success with "Trouble" (#10 on the Billboard dance chart), "Jump for Jo!" (#2 in Billboard and #3 in Rolling Stone), and a multitude of collaborating projects providing lead vocals for producers on other labels such as Tribal America and Elektra artist Towa Tel's (formerly of Deee-lite) new CD. Cardwell's latest single, "Love and Devotion," shipped a couple of weeks ago, has won rave reviews and is filling dance floors all across the coun- try. But let's back up a bit ....
