[email protected], *Author for correspondence Email: [email protected] Abstract Purpose: The study examined the effect of airport marketing attributes on word of mouth communication at the Sam Mbakwe Airport, Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria. Design/Methodology: The descriptive survey research had a dataset of 150 domestic passengers found at the Sam Mbakwe Airport, Owerri during the study period in November, 2019. A well structured questionnaire containing 14 items in addition to 4 demographic items was used to elicit data from the respondents. With the help of SPSS, the data gathered was utilised to validate the model developed for the study empirically through statistical tests. Findings: The inferential statistical analysis revealed that airport terminal facilities and airport security and safety had significant effect on passengers’ word of mouth communication. Originality: The recognition of airport terminal facilities and airport security and safety as marketing attributes having effect on passengers’ behavioural intentions constitute a novel contribution

With the gradual institutionalization of democracy, godfatherism has taken its toll in the politics of the country, thereby causing disaffection, disharmony, disunity and conflict among various political and interest groups. Its lethargic impact has further heightened political passivism and aparthism, thus retarding Nigeria’s democratic process. Apart from being a game of power play and rivalry, it often engenders political acrimony which tends to divest the people of democratic dividends. Consequently, such features as stagnated development, wanton destruction of lives and property becomes predominant. Nigeria has consistently been rated as one of the most corrupt nations on earth. This corrupt tendency propelled by greed has resulted in Nigerians seeing government as a vehicle for primitive accumulation and self aggrandizement. With these attendant problems associated with politics of godfatherism, Nigeria’s socio-economic structure tends to encourage it. However, the third and fourth dispensations (2007-2014) of this fourth republic have witnessed tremendous change in role from ‘do or die’ style of godfatherism to that of intra party politics. It is this change pattern that necessitated this study. Yusuf Maigida Abdulrahman Department of Educational Foundations, Faculty of Education, P.M.B. 5323, University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Colomilicivilian is a coinage that describes the three eras of political experiences of Nigeria, captured as Colonial Era, Military Era and the Civilian Era; characterised with series of manifestations in the establishment of universities during each of the eras. The paper was written on the demonstration of efforts and commitments of Governments at different times from the missionaries/colonial days of Nigeria, 1800-1960; through to the post colonial efforts of the civilian administrations at different times and those efforts of the various military governments in the promotion of university education from post 1960; through the establishment of universities of various kinds – regular/conventional (running all programmes, combined); specialised ones (of science, technology, open, technical, petroleum resources, military, police, marine and medical); even the projected Information and Communication Technology (ICT) University were accorded chronological documentation. This historical study chronicles from pre-independence to the entire post-independence efforts of the governments of Nigeria at federal and state levels, as well as the role of private proprietors from the initial effort during 2nd republic in 1979-1983, which was truncated and later resuscitated. The paper also captured the ultimate resurgence of private establishment of universities, now considered a sustained effort of the private individuals, corporate organisations, faith-based (Christian and Islamic) organisations.

N. NYEWUSIRA Ph.D University of Port Harcourt, Department of Educational Foundations, [email protected] Abstract. This paper examines the role politics has played in establishment of universities in Nigeria from the colonial era up to 2010 and the attendant implications of this for the development of university education. The result of the study, through critical analysis, reveals that politics contributed positively in the emergence of the premier university but was wrongly deployed in the creation of more universities. It also discovers that the political motives or interests that informed the expansion of universities created a yawning gap between the real needs in university education and the political expediency for the establishment of universities. Based on the findings, and as strategies or measures for new frontiers in university education in Nigeria, the paper recommends, among other things, that there should be consolidation of existing universities and that the establishment of universities be devoid of vested political interests or considerations . It is established that one of the trends in modern education of the 21 st century Europe was that the political influence of the nation-states on school systems correspondingly grew stronger (The New Encyclopaedia Britannica, 2002). Duru1 1Department of History and International Studies, Imo State University, Owerri, Nigeria ABSTRACT Nigeria is one of the nations of the world with a history of military domination in her political activities. The earliest incursion of the military in the political affairs of the African polity was encouraged by the upheavals which encrusted the political atmosphere of the country in the first republic. Traditionally, the acquisition of power by the military at the centre (federal level) automatically means the presence of the military at the helm of political affairs in the federating units, as military personnel were usually appointed as governors or administrators at the state level. Periodically, this trend was felt in Imo state from creation in 1976 through 1999 when the military officially relinquished power and recognized a democratically elected government in Nigeria. Numerous impacts were created on Imo state, during this period, by the various serving military governments in the administration of the state, and the examination of these impacts therefore forms the central discourse of this study. Adopting historical methodology of data gathering which encouraged ample utilization of primary and secondary sourced materials in the study, findings, however, revealed that in as much as the developmental woes of the state, within the stipulated period, was attributed to the political activities of the military governors – a maxim held and promoted presently in some quarters, there were still elements of benefits that accrued from the activities of military governments in Imo state.

The domination of power by the hegemonic class in many parts of the contem porary world can thus be said to be nothing new but has a robust pedigree. The main lesson from all these works is that the study of political elites and leadership is very important for under - standing the trajec tories of devel opment in any society. As Welsh observed,3 political elites ‘partic ipate in, or influence the making of, decisions that allocate resources within and among social units’. A variety of conflicts are produced in the process.

The human rights group said out of the 400 or more, 150 have been discovered to be held indefinitely and incommunicado in secret army and police dungeons located in Abuja, FCT, without court trial. Intersociety Chairman Mr Emeka Umeagbalasi said in a statement that 52 defenceless Obigbo residents, all Judeo-Christian Igbos, were recently rescued and their release secured through three different courts and four processes in Niger State. 'The 52 rescued abductees exclude three that died from torture in soldiers' captivity. While one died on the road during their secret and night long transportation from Obigbo-to-Obinze (Army Barracks)- Abuja, two others died in secret Army detention custodies in Niger State,' he alleged. 'It was further discovered that most of the abductees were transported by road while others including elderly ones among them were airlifted through the local wing of the Port Harcourt International Airport in Rivers State and the Sam Mbakwe Air Port in Imo State. 'One major attribute of the dreaded Decree 2 now being used clandestinely by the Lt Gen Buratai led Nigerian Army is the extrajudicial transfer and incarceration of citizens abducted by Army at Prison facilities without recourse to Court orders or remands.
