Popular I could say i have a sort of love/hate relationship with grindcore, mostly because when its well made, it’s Kingcrow ‑ Insider completely and utterly awesome, but most of the times its just an amalgam of noise and not in the good sense, December 20, 2013 also i could say i have the same feeling with electronic music in general, so when Aaron Specter‘s Drumcorps no comments pulls this “Grist” saying it’s a mixing of grindcore and breakcore… i tend to take it with a grain of salt. It all starts up with “Botch Up and Die” and it’s pretty grindcore, kinda of a homage to Botch, with the eccentric Dark Tranquility and Sonata guitars over a grind blast beat, its not only amusing but quite groovy, nicely done, “Down” is kinda dance meets Arctica joined forces for Heavy noisecore with distorted samples and guitars into the mix, okkk, “Pig Destroyer Destroyer” has some nice Metal Poker Tournament drumming building to a slowed down chopped distorted noise filled beat … are we making fun of Pig Destroyer?, December 12, 2013 is this supposed to be a compliment or a satire, anyway it all builds up to a distorted guitar breakcore fest, no comments mixing real life drumming with beats and distortion…. -

Mysticism, Implicit Religion and Gravetemple's Drone Metal By
1 The Invocation at Tilburg: Mysticism, Implicit Religion and Gravetemple’s Drone Metal by Owen Coggins 1.1 On 18th April 2013, an extremely slow, loud and noisy “drone metal” band Gravetemple perform at the Roadburn heavy metal and psychedelic rock festival in Tilburg in the Netherlands. After forty-five minutes of gradually intensifying, largely improvised droning noise, the band reach the end of their set. Guitarist Stephen O’Malley conjures distorted chords, controlled by a bank of effects pedals; vocalist Attila Csihar, famous for his time as singer for notorious and controversial black metal band Mayhem, ritualistically intones invented syllables that echo monastic chants; experimental musician Oren Ambarchi extracts strange sounds from his own looped guitar before moving to a drumkit to propel a scattered, urgent rhythm. Momentum overtaking him, a drumstick slips from Ambarchi’s hand, he breaks free of the drum kit, grabs for a beater, turns, and smashes the gong at the centre of the stage. For two long seconds the all-encompassing rumble that has amassed throughout the performance drones on with a kind of relentless inertia, still without a sonic acknowledgement of the visual climax. Finally, the pulsating wave from the heavily amplified gong reverberates through the corporate body of the audience, felt in physical vibration more than heard as sound. The musicians leave the stage, their abandoned instruments still expelling squalling sounds which gradually begin to dissipate. Listeners breathe out, perhaps open their eyes, raise their heads, shift their feet and awaken enough to clap and shout appreciation, before turning to friends or strangers, reaching for phrases and gestures, often in a vocabulary of ritual, mysticism and transcendence, which might become touchstones for recollection and communication of their individual and shared experience. -

More recently, studies have neglected content analysis due to perceived homogeneity in themes, despite evidence that the modern genre is distinct from its past. As lyrical patterns are strong markers of genre, this study attempts to characterize heavy metal in the 21st century by analyzing lyrics for specific themes and perspectives. Citing evidence that the “Millennial” generation confers significant developments to popular culture, the contemporary genre is termed “Millennial heavy metal” throughout, and the study is framed accordingly. -

Crowbar Symmetry in Black ENG
“Symmetry In Black” CD • LP • Digital Download European Release Date: Ma y 26 th , 2014 Hope ya’ love it slow, hard and heavy, because the rebirth of CROWBAR is upon us. Make no mistake: the massively influential merchants of sludge never went away. But as the band’s 25 th year of existence dawns and their tenth full length album is unleashed upon the world, cofounder, frontman and riff- making warhorse Kirk Windstein is determined to give the band he unapologetically calls his “baby” the total dedication it demands. The unrestrained push and relentless concentration surrounding Symmetry in Black is music to the ears - figuratively and literally – for new adherents and the legion of underground fans and fellow musicians who swore allegiance to Crowbar long ago. Symmetry in Black is the perfect album to arrive in the number ten slot of the Crowbar catalog, a penultimate achievement embodying the early sloth of doom touchstone Obedience Thru Suffering (1991), the moody dissonance of modern classic Odd Fellows Rest (1998) and the crisp thunder of the album’s predecessor, Sever the Wicked Hand (2011), with nuggets of Crowbar’s storied history sprinkled throughout. The crushing signature sound of Crowbar is at its peak on Symmetry in Black , the band’s most diverse yet cohesive release. It was coproduced with fellow New Orleans resident Duane Simoneaux, who worked on Sever the Wicked Hand and mixed by Josh Wilbur, whose diverse credits include work with Lamb Of God, Gojira and Killer Be Killed. “We needed to move our sound forward but at the same time, make sure everything stayed 100% true to who and what we are,” Windstein explains. -

Weirdo Canyon Dispatch 2015
Welcome To… very Roadburn is something special, but the 2015 edition happens to be the 20th Roadburn Festival, and it’s an anniversary being celebrated in grand E style, so if you’re here, kudos. If this is a return trip for you, then you already know the vibe, the spirit of the fest in which you’re about to take part. If you’re new to Roadburn, all I can say is that the weekend you’re about to have is going to change your life. That’s not bullshit. Over the next three or four days (depending on which ticket you got), you’ll see and experience things you never thought you’d witness, and you’ll be part of this thing that Roadburn has become. Whether you’re standing in front of a stage, wandering through an art gallery, checking out the merch or attending a panel, prepare to be swallowed up by the sensory overload that this festival provides, and when you emerge on the other side, expect to have a different perspective than you had coming into it. Because that’s what Roadburn does. Year after year. And as we come together to celebrate the 20th fest, I’m happy to say that the Weirdo Canyon Dispatch will be here for the second year, bringing you daily picks, behind-the-scenes specials and a lot more over the next four days. It’s going to be tiring, and it’s going to take a whole lot of coffee to get to the other end of it, but it’s an opportunity we wouldn’t trade for anything. -
