When I was a kid one of my fathers’ favorite activities was washing the car on Saturday mornings. I liked fishing better, but he liked pulling the car up on the lawn and getting big buckets of soapy water, in the hot summer sun, polishing the chrome, and finishing off with a water fight with the hose. We would celebrate and show off the car by driving to Dairy Queen and getting soft ice cream cones, and even one for the dog! We had a big black lab named “Jack” and it still makes me laugh when I remember holding on to that ice cream cone while Jack licked it with a tongue as big as a towel.
