We realized financial gains in the market, reaffirmed our strategic direction and set the groundwork for a focused year ahead. Collaboration: Gearing up for Canada’s 150th Be inspired The Community Fund for Canada’s 150th was established this year to mark the upcoming sesquicentennial year - enabling us to inject more grant dollars than ever into our community. Through our Community Grants program, in collaboration with Community Foundations of Canada and The Government of Canada, we granted over $147,000 to 26 charitable organizations who in turn brought their programs and activities to life, with the goal of building, encouraging and inspiring a sense of community. We were amazed and inspired when some of our fund holders and board members stepped up and allocated additional funds - demonstrating a truly collaborative effort and underscoring what it truly means to be Canadian, and ultimately a caring philanthropist in Guelph. Growth & Development At The Guelph Community Foundation, we strive to inspire a love for We were able to grant a total of $668,571 in 2016 – 19% more than in 2015. THE GUELPH COMMUNITY FOUNDATION 2016 ANNUAL REPORT BE INSPIRED! 7 MUSAGETES GRANTS 9 $44,000 AWARDED creativethroughinspiring expression the arts The Musagetes Fund is intended to act as a catalyst for the ongoing production and enjoyment of performing, visual and literary arts excellence in Guelph and area. With the help of The Guelph Community Foundation, the Musagetes Fund aspires to make a meaningful and lasting contribution to the arts scene for our community’s benefit. For 2016, the Musagetes Fund was particularly interested in new approaches to building community and culture. Preference was given to organizations that engaged at least one community-based partner who satisfied a connection to social justice, environmental resilience, and intercultural relationships. Art Gallery of Guelph Guelph Neighbourhood Support Coalition A Sense of Wonder: Art Gallery of Guelph - A collaboration with Ed Video Media Arts Centre that connected the experience of visual and media arts to youth and adult members of the deaf community. It also included experiential workshops and public events across Guelph. Canadian Mental Health Association Waterloo Wellington Dufferin Immigrant Services Guelph Wellington Freedom to Grow Project: Immigrant Services Guelph Wellington - This photo shows some newcomer youth involved in the project with MP Lloyd Guelph Arts Council Middlebrook Prize Longfield. The project included an array of engaging activities including a digital storytelling project, a public event and an instrumental shaker design Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival Shelldale Better Beginnings, Better Futures project (produced for the closing song with Indigenous elders at the SW Ontario Forum on Collaborative Leadership).
