The SMART X-Port 10 unit is attached to the multi-mount panel just behind the peripheral cavity. This switching device automatically overrides the internal connections, changing over the video, audio and serial inputs from the internal computer to the guest laptop computer. This allows a laptop user to take control away from the internal computer and use the sound system, projector and SMART Board interactive whiteboard.

The guest laptop user connects to the X-Port 10 unit via connectors in the Control Panel. In addition to these Control Panel connections, you must connect the internal projector and computer to the X-Port 10 unit. The X-Port 10 unit and its numbered connections are shown in the figure below. The numbers refer to the actual labeled cables that are connected to the unit.

SMART Expression 503 Integrator’s Guide 7 Power Management System

One cord − the cabinet power cord − powers the entire system. You can control the power using the Main Power Switch in the Control Panel. After you've finished wiring the projector and computer, plug the power cord into the IEC power inlet near the connection panel, and then to the nearest power outlet. This way, you'll be able to make adjustments to the projected computer image during the integration process itself. However, you may want to power down the cabinet before proceeding with the remaining wiring tasks.

The power system has received CE, CSA and CSA NTRL/C certification. The system supports International Power Standards (90V − 250V, 50 Hz − 60 Hz) and country specific- to-IEC cables are included with all units. The power management system is comprised of both AC and DC components and is described in the wiring diagrams below.

WARNING: For user safety, only IEC Standards-approved peripheral devices should be used.

AC Power Distribution The internal AC power bar uses IEC connectors. Power cables are included to convert IEC power bar outlets to country-specific requirements. The diagram below depicts the internal AC-power distribution, showing both the pre-installed and provided cabling. In all wiring diagrams in this manual, each cable end is assigned a number with a differential of one from its counterpart. For example, the extension cable for the printer is #81 at the power-bar end and #82 at the printer end. A table summarizing all cable connections can be found on the next page.

10 SMART Expression 503 Integrator’s Guide Audio System

As you read the following description of the cabinet’s audio system, refer to the numbered cables in the diagram and the table on the following page for cable locations and descriptions.

NOTE: In all the wiring diagrams in this manual, each cable end is assigned a number with a differential of one from its counterpart. For example, the extension cable for the printer is #81 at the power bar end and #82 at the printer end.

Internal Audio System The Audio Mixer is an audio line-level mixing and signal distribution circuit that is the key to the internal audio system. The Audio Mixer derives audio input from two sources: the internal PC or guest laptop via the X-Port 10 unit and any other internal source, such as a VCR player or DVD equipment. The Audio Mixer combines the two audio signals, and delivers the buffered mixed signal to both the amplifier (cable #23-24) and the Audio Out jacks in the connection panel (cable #21-22).

From the internal amplifier, the sound is dispersed to the 15-watt speakers on the front panel (cables #25-26 and 27-28). From the connection panel, the unamplified audio output is delivered to an external audio system.

The X-Port 10 switching allows the internal computer (cable #17-18) and guest laptop (cable #15-16) to share the audio system. The Volume Control dial in the Control Panel controls both the internal and external sound levels.

External Audio System Support The audio system is designed to accommodate an external audio system, such as a room audio system. The left and right Audio Out jacks in the connection panel deliver mixed sound from both the computer (either the internal or guest laptop) and the VCR (or DVD) player to an amplified room audio system.

The schematic diagram below shows how the Audio Mixer functions to combine and buffer audio sources.

SMART Expression 503 Integrator’s Guide 13 Preparing the Cabinet

To integrate equipment with ease and efficiency, we recommend that you first remove the front, top and side panels. Removing these panels allows you to install and connect multimedia equipment without hindrance. If you're installing a scanner in addition to the standard complement of peripherals, or if the peripherals are non-standard sizes, you may also need to add or adjust the shelving before you begin.

Before you begin disassembly, ensure that the cabinet is unplugged, particularly before removing the front panel.

Removing the Front, Top and Side Panels The integrator's first task is to remove the cabinet's front, top and side panels. This is necessary to ensure the unhindered access you’ll need for integrating and wiring the computer, projector, printer and other peripherals. Due to the weight of these panels, we recommend that two people perform the procedures that follow.

You must remove panels in the following sequence: Remove the front panel first, then the top, and, finally, the two side panels. Once removed, the panels should be laid flat or securely propped against a wall to prevent damage while you install the equipment. Also, place all the fasteners you remove in a secure place while you install the equipment in the cabinet.

Tools Required • a security hex key for removing the fasteners that secure the front panel to the frame (provided in the Accessory Kit)

• A 5/32" hex key for removing the top and side panels (provided in the Accessory Kit)

1. Remove Front Panel

Removing the Front, Top and Side Panels

14 SMART Expression 503 Integrator’s Guide 1. To remove the front panel: 1. Remove the two security bolts from the top of the front panel (the side with speakers), using the security hex key provided in the Accessory Kit. 2. Pull the top of the panel towards you only until you can reach your hand behind the panel. You'll see that the panel remains attached to the cabinet via the two speaker wires. To release the panel, disconnect the speakers by firmly pulling apart the two white, plastic TAKE NOTE quick-release tabs, located about 12" (30 cm) behind each speaker. 3. Lift the panel up and off the lower rail.

2. To remove the top panel: 1. Open the mirror flap at the top and the access door at the back of the cabinet. 2. Remove the three bolts that secure the top panel to the back of the cabinet (door side) using the 5/32" hex key provided in the Accessory Kit. These bolts are located to the right of the door, and the heads of these bolts can be clearly seen from below.

Location of three top panel bolts on the back of the cabinet

3. Remove the four bolts that secure the top panel to the front of the cabinet (speaker side) using the hex key.

Location of two bolts per side rail

Location of four top panel bolts on the front of the cabinet

4. Lift the top straight up and then over the open mirror flap. 3. To remove the side panels: 1. From the inside of the cabinet, remove the two bolts that secure each side panel to the upper rail. Use the provided 5/32" hex key. 2. Lift each side panel up and off the lower rails.

SMART Expression 503 Integrator’s Guide 15 Adjusting the Shelving The cabinet supports a wide variety of computer and multimedia equipment. There are certain size limitations, however, so be aware of the following cabinet dimensions:

• The projector cavity, containing the adjustable projector shelf, can support projectors as large as 14" W x 9" H x 18" D (35.6 cm x 22.9 cm x 45.5 cm) in size.

• The peripheral cavity, which stores the computer and other peripherals, is 29" W x 24" H x 18" D (73.5 cm x 61 cm x 45.5 cm). The computer area also contains a small accessory basket for storing items from the Accessory Kit. The shelf upon which the basket rests can be adjusted or removed to accommodate an especially high computer tower.

To accommodate various equipment sizes, you may need to move the shelves up or down. However, once you remove the front, top and side panels, these are very simple procedures. The two shelf sizes are 19" W x 18" D (48.3 cm x 45.7 cm) and 9"W x 18" D (22.9 cm x 45.7 cm) apply to both sliding and fixed shelving. Each shelf has a weight restriction of 50 lb. (22.7 kg).

To move the shelving up or down: 1. Remove the four screws that secure the shelf to the vertical uprights with a 1/8" hex key. 2. Slide the shelf out. 3. Slide the shelf clips to the new setting. NOTE: Shelves can be moved up or down in half-inch increments. 4. Replace the shelf, aligning it with the shelf clips, and replace the four screws to secure the shelf in its new position.

To replace a fixed shelf with a sliding shelf: 1. Using the 1/8" hex key, remove the fixed shelf, and put the four screws that secured it to the vertical uprights aside until step 3. 2. Extend the sliding shelf to its fullest extent and position the two outer rail supports against the vertical uprights, aligning the supports to the shelf clips. 3. Using the 1/8" hex key, secure the outer rail to the shelf clips with the four previously removed screws.

16 SMART Expression 503 Integrator’s Guide Installing Equipment in the Cabinet

The preferred order of installation is the computer first, followed by the projector, VCR, scanner and printer (or multi-function device).

With the exception of the scanner, which is connected to the printer, all equipment is connected to the two switching devices that permit resource sharing between the internal computer and the guest laptop − the SMART X-Port 10 unit (see page 6) and the bi- directional printer switch (see page 13).

Many connections have been pre-wired in our factory. For example, all initial connections originating from the two switching devices have been made for you.

We've further simplified the connection procedures by numbering all cables, and referring to the cables by these numbers in the installation instructions and wiring diagrams that follow. Refer to these numbers and the accompanying wiring diagrams as you perform the cabinet integration procedures. In all wiring diagrams in this manual, each cable end is assigned a number with a differential of one from its counterpart. For example, the extension cable for the printer is #81 at the power bar end and #82 at the printer end.

NOTE: You'll also find ten peripheral straps in the Accessory Kit. Use them to secure the peripherals to their shelves.

SMART Expression 503 Integrator’s Guide 17 Installing a Computer The computer cavity is a flexible space that can be configured for the varying heights of PC towers. The computer cavity also contains an accessory shelf that can be adjusted upwards or removed if you're installing an especially high computer tower. For ease of access, prior to installing the internal PC, the front, top and side panels of the cabinet should be removed, as described on pages 14-15.

The computer requires more wiring than any other piece of equipment you'll install in the cabinet. The diagrams and tables below should help you sort out which cables you'll need to connect to the computer. To make cable management easier, the cables are bundled together by cable ties. Notice that many of the connections you'll make originate at the X- Port 10 unit and the Printer switch. All the external peripheral cables will connect to the connection panel, including the network, the SMART Board interactive whiteboard and any other external serial device.

For Macintosh computer installation, use the SMART USB adapter (USB-ADP) for USB- equipped Macintosh computers or, for serial connection, the various adapters available in the Macintosh Conversion Kit, all of which are available from SMART Technologies Inc. Turn to page 50 for more information on these adapters.

SHUTDOWN NOTE: When you turn the cabinet off via the Main Power switch, the computer will automatically be turned off. You may prefer to perform an orderly computer shutdown sequence prior to turning the cabinet off.

1. Slide the PC tower into place on the PC shelf, leaving sufficient space at the rear to make the necessary connections.

Computer Cavity

2. Make the connections that are necessary to support all the peripherals that will be installed in the cabinet. You'll notice a bundle of cables near the back of the PC shelf. These cables are labeled to facilitate the connections you'll need to make. You can also refer to the following table and diagrams.

SMART Expression 503 Integrator’s Guide 21 Installing a Keyboard and Mouse You can install a conventional keyboard, an infrared keyboard and receiver, or a radio frequency keyboard and receiver on the retractable keyboard shelf. This shelf measures 22" W x 10" D (56 cm x 25.5 cm). If you're using an infrared keyboard, position the receiver towards the back of the shelf, in line with the infrared keyboard. However, since an infrared keyboard will be restricted by the position of the receiver, we recommend either the radio frequency or conventional keyboard with the cabinet.

Install infrared receiver here

Keyboard and Mouse Shelf

If you're also installing a SMART Board interactive whiteboard, we recommend you install a PS/2 mouse rather than a serial mouse because of the limited availability of serial ports on the internal computer.

To install a conventional keyboard: 1. Make sure the computer is turned off, and then fully extend the retractable keyboard shelf. 2. Place the conventional keyboard on the shelf and pull the keyboard cable through the gap at the back of the shelf, draping it down behind the computer. 3. Connect the PS/2 connector to the PS/2 keyboard port on the rear of the computer.

To install a mouse: 1. Make sure the computer is turned off. 2. Place the mouse next to the keyboard on the keyboard shelf, and pull the mouse cable through the gap at the back of the shelf, draping it behind the computer. 3. Locate the PS/2 mouse port on the rear of the computer, and connect the PS/2 connector.

22 SMART Expression 503 Integrator’s Guide Installing a Projector

Axis4

Of the various peripheral devices you'll install in the cabinet, the projector is the most challenging. You may need to adjust the projector shelf vertically and angle it so the projected image hits the mirror and is then cast onto the screen or the SMART Board interactive whiteboard.

The following points should be kept in mind: • The projector should be positioned as high as possible within the projector cavity and as close to the top of the projector shelf as possible without protruding beyond the top of the cabinet (you must be able to close the mirror flap). • The maximum projector size that can be accommodated by the projector shelf and cavity is 14" W x 9" H x 18" D (35.6 cm x 22.9 cm x 45.5 cm). The projector platform itself is 14" W x 18" D (35.5 cm x 45.5 cm). • The shelf should be as flat as possible, with a minimal amount of tipping from the horizontal. • The installed projector bulb shouldn't exceed 500 watts, and its keystone range (projection angle) should be from 8 to 18 degrees. • SHUTDOWN NOTE: Once installed and running, you can use the projector's remote control to put the projector into standby mode before turning the cabinet off. By doing this, you allow the projector bulb to cool down before the projector is automatically switched off via the Main Power Switch.

SMART Expression 503 Integrator’s Guide 23 Before You Begin 1. Pull the mirror flap up until it is completely open, and then close it by approximately 10 degrees. NOTE: If you move the mirror after the projector is in place, you’ll alter the height of the image on the projected surface. 2. Adjust the projector's feet so that it is as level as possible prior to installing it in the cabinet.

Adjusting the Projector Platform Height 1. It may be necessary to raise or lower the platform to accommodate the projector, depending on the projector height. If you need to adjust the platform height, use the 5/32" hex key provided in the Accessory Kit to remove the four upper and lower screws that secure the platform to the vertical uprights.

Mirror (Opened and then Adjusted downwards 10 Degrees)

Shelf Clips Loosen track screw to rotate platform. Access from inside.

2. Remove the projector platform. If necessary, remove and adjust the projector backstop to accommodate the projector. Using the 5/32" hex key, remove the 3 screws that secure the backstop and adjust it up or down in increments of 3/4". The backstop is a safety precaution to stop the projector from sliding off the shelf if the straps come loose for any reason, or while the projector is in the process of being strapped down.

Backstop

24 SMART Expression 503 Integrator’s Guide NOTE: The projector should be as close to the front of the shelf as possible, without obstructing the closure of the mirror flap or hitting the top of the cabinet. Since the top of the cabinet has been removed, use the front and back top rails as a visual guide.

3. Remove and then install the shelf clips at the new height. 4. Position the shelf in place and install the upper pivot screws. 5. Insert the lower screws through the lower shelf clips and screw them in place loosely. Tip and slide the platform on the curved adjusting track until the platform is angled appropriately, and then tighten the screws. NOTE: The platform is at 30 degrees in its neutral (shipping) position, with a movement range of 20 degrees either way. 6. Place the projector on the shelf, with the lens perpendicular to the mirror, and strap it into place.

Strapping the Projector in Place

Connecting the Projector Four cables should be connected to the projector: • cable #3-4 from the X-Port 10 switch that delivers the video signal from either the internal or guest laptop computer. This cable is provided with the projector: attach one end to the X-Port 10 unit and the other to the video port on the projector. • cable #52-53 from the VCR

SMART Expression 503 Integrator’s Guide 25 • IEC cable #85-86 to provide projector power • DB15 HD video cable #1-2 from the Connection Panel to the projector for a secondary display device (such as a different projector) These connections are summarized in the table and diagram below. For easier cable management, keep all cables bundled securely in the cable tie.

Plug the black RCA connector at the other end of the RCA composite cable #52-53 into the composite connector on the back of the projector. • If you're using S-Video, plug the other end of the cable into the "S-Video" connector on the projector. 4. Plug the DB15 HD video cable #1-2 into the projector’s video out port for a secondary display device (monitor or secondary projector). 5. If the SMART On-Screen Projector Remote Control will be used with the SMART Board interactive whiteboard, connect the DB9 serial connector. 6. Plug the IEC power cable #85-86 (originating at the power bar)into the projector power inlet. This power cable (#85-86) should be used rather than the one that comes with your projector.

Adjusting the Projected Image As you make the adjustments recommended below, keep in mind that while your goal is a centered image either on the SMART Board interactive whiteboard screen or any other surface, a perfectly square image is not always possible. Not only are the screen, projector, Expression cabinet and floor entirely separate physical variables, but the projector itself may have design constraints that may produce a slightly keystoned image shape that can't be corrected.

NOTE: The SMART On-Screen Display Controller is available for use with any installed projector. When used with a SMART Board interactive whiteboard, this program enables you to adjust and control the projector from the interactive whiteboard's touch-sensitive surface. See page 40 for information on installing and configuring this software.

To center the projected image on a screen or wall: 1. Looking at the image from behind the Expression cabinet, visualize a line from the center of the mirror to the center of the screen or wall.

Using the SMART On-Screen Display Controller If the Expression cabinet is used with a SMART Board interactive whiteboard, you’ll want to make use of the SMART On-Screen Display Controller. The On-Screen Display Controller offers the convenience of controlling the projector right at the SMART Board surface.

To help preserve your expensive projector lamp (and keep the cabinet from overheating), the On-Screen Display Controller detects the presence of any screen saver you may have installed and responds when the screen saver becomes active by turning off the projector lamp after a specified period of time has elapsed. As soon as activity resumes on the interactive whiteboard − i.e., after the SMART Board surface is touched or the mouse is moved − the On-Screen Display Controller will turn the projector lamp back on.

To summarize, the On-Screen Display Controller: • allows you to control the projector volume, power and input source right at the SMART Board surface. • works with your screen saver to put the projector into standby mode after a period of inactivity. The next time you touch the interactive whiteboard, the projector lamp is reactivated. For an On-Screen Display Controller to work, you’ll need: • an available COM port on the internal computer. • an RS-232 serial cable connection from the projector to the computer • an installed and active screen saver

Configuring and Using On-Screen Display Controls Specific display controls vary according to the projector, but, in general, standby mode, volume and input mode controls become touch-accessible when the On-Screen Display Controller is activated.

To configure the controls, you’ll need to select the port of the interior computer to which you connected the serial cable from the projector.

After you’ve set it up, an On-Screen Display Controller icon is added to the system tray (on the right side of the Task Bar), as shown below.

40 SMART Expression 503 Integrator’s Guide Press on this icon to view the Controls dialog box, and then adjust and control your display by using this dialog box. You can also access the controls in the form of a command menu list with a right-mouse press on the icon. You can control many aspects of your projector from this interface. 14. If you don't have a screen saver installed, activate SMART Bulb Saver. The on-screen control that automatically turns your projector bulb off during periods of inactivity will not work unless you have a screen saver installed.

SMART Expression 503 Integrator’s Guide 41 Using the SMART Bulb Saver If you want to take advantage of the On-Screen Display Controller feature, but have no screen saver installed, we’ve provided one that’s tailored for interactive whiteboard use. Even if you’re already using another screen saver, you may want to consider using the SMART Bulb Saver instead. Not only is the SMART Bulb Saver designed especially for use with a SMART Board unit, but it’s highly configurable as well: it can put the internal projector into standby mode, customize the screen graphic, shut down the computer and log off the current user after a specified period of inactivity.

To activate the SMART Bulb Saver: 1. Connect the appropriate cable from the projector’s computer control connector to an available COM port on your computer. You may have made this serial connection between the projector and computer to activate the On-Screen Display Controller (see page 41).

2. Press Start , and select Settings > Control Panel. 3. Double-press on the Display icon. The Display Properties dialog box will appear. 4. Press the Screen Saver tab. 5. 46 SMART Expression 503 Integrator’s Guide Appendix B: Troubleshooting Guide

If you experience technical problems while attempting to integrate the peripheral devices, check the headings below to see what steps other integrators have taken to solve the problem.

No Audio from the Speakers 1. Ensure the amplifier is properly powered. A 2.1 mm coaxial plug should be firmly plugged into the amplifier. 2. Check that each speaker is properly connected to the amplifier. Each speaker is connected to the amplifier by a speaker wire. Two quick-connects secure each wire to two tabs on the amplifier. The wire then runs to a white battery connector, where it is connected to a wire attached to the speaker. This speaker wire is also secured to the speaker by two quick-connects. Check all these connections. 3. Trace the audio cables back from the amplifier to the audio mixer, then to the VCR and X-Port 10 unit, ensuring these connections are secure.

Audio from Only One Speaker 1. Check the connections between the speakers and the amplifier. Two quick-connects secure the wire to two tabs on the amplifier. The wire then runs to a white battery connector, where it is connected to a wire attached to the speaker. This speaker wire is also secured to the speaker by two quick-connects. 2. Check that the 3.5 mm plugs are all firmly and completely plugged into their jacks. A loose connection could mean that only one audio channel is working.

A Cable Can’t Be Plugged In 1. Check that the cable number is correct. 2. Check the type and gender of the cable. If it is the wrong type, make sure that the cables weren’t simply mislabeled. If the cable is the wrong gender, check the other end of the cable to see if the cable was put in backwards.

A Plugged-In Peripheral Is Not Receiving Power 1. Check that all the cables are firmly plugged into the power bars and into the power distribution board. 2. Make sure the green light on the power supply is lit.

The Display Source LEDs on the Control Panel Are Black 1. If the display source LED on the control panel is not lit, check to see if the LED's on the X-Port 10 unit are lit. 2. If the X-Port 10 unit LEDs are lit, check the firmness of the ribbon cable connection from the X-Port 10 unit to the audio mixer at the Control Panel. 3. If the X-Port 10 unit LEDs are not lit, trace the power cable back from the X-Port 10 unit to determine if it’s powered up.

SMART Expression 503 Integrator’s Guide 47 No Computer Video to the Projector If the internal or external computer image is displayed, the fault is likely with the X-Port 10 unit.

1. Check the Control Panel. If the display source LED on the control panel is not lit, check to see if the X-Port 10 unit LEDs are lit. If they are, check the ribbon cable connection. If they aren’t, trace the power cable back from the X-Port 10 unit to ensure it's receiving power. 2. If power is not the problem, check all the video cabling. The problem might simply be that the cables were disconnected or connected incorrectly. 3. Finally, if the power connections and cabling are correct, turn off the unit with the Control Panel power switch, and then restart. This will reset the X-Port 10 unit and often solve any video problems.

Audio Is Distorted Audio distortions are often caused by power problems. A poorly grounded power supply can cause audio static.

1. If you installed any power supplies or power equipment, turn the power equipment off and check if that clears up any audio problems. 2. Try replacing the power supply.

The Connected SMART Board Interactive Whiteboard Is not Working If the SMART Board interactive whiteboard is not touch-sensitive when displaying the internal computer image:

1. Check the Pen Tray and Connection Panel cable connections. 2. Check for a loosely connected internal serial cable (#58-59) from the standard connection PCB to the internal PC. 3. Ensure that the SMART Board software is running correctly on the internal computer. If the SMART Board interactive whiteboard is not touch-sensitive only when displaying the guest laptop computer: 1. Make sure the Control Panel cable is securely attached to the guest laptop's serial port. Also ensure the serial port is not claimed by any other resource on the laptop computer. 2. Check to see if the other end of the cable is securely attached to the X-Port 10 Computer 2 serial data port.

The X-Port 10 Unit Fails to Automatically Toggle when the Guest Laptop Is Connected 1. Press the Display Mode switch. If the video toggles to either a blank screen or the laptop video, there is probably a problem with the video properties of the laptop computer. 2. If it does not switch, the problem is with the X-Port 10 unit. If possible, save all of your open files on the internal computer and power the cabinet down. When you restart the computer, the problem should disappear.

48 SMART Expression 503 Integrator’s Guide 3. Another solution is to temporarily detach the 2.1 mm DC coaxial power cable from the X- Port 10 unit. To do this, you will either have to remove the front, speaker-side panel or reach past the printer shelf. Power to the X-Port 10 unit will be temporarily cut off, resetting it and eliminating the problem.

Unable to Print from Connected Guest Laptop (HP Printers or Multifunction Devices Only) The heart of this problem lies in the HP® DeskJet™ Toolbox software or HP OfficeJet™ Manager software installed on the internal computer to run the attached HP printer or multifunction device. This software may poll the HP Multifunction device or printer at very frequent intervals, thereby monopolizing the bi-directional printer switch (making it unavailable for guest laptop use). The printer switch persists in maintaining the channel of communication between the internal computer and the HP device because of the software's frequent polling activities.

If you are running HP printer management software, the guest laptop may receive error messages when attempts are made to print from it. The content of these error messages would suggest that two-way communication between the laptop and the printer is not working.

If the HP manager software is operating a multifunction device, you'll want to keep using it so that you can continue to use the multiple functions managed by the software. To solve the guest laptop problem, you may want to temporarily close down the software so that the guest laptop can print, and then start it up again.

However, if the management software is only used to manage a printer, we suggest you uninstall the printer management software and then install a current HP-compatible printer driver from the Windows 95 or 98 list of installed printer drivers. Click Start and then select Settings>Printers. Double-click the Add New Printers icon, and an Add New Printer Wizard will appear to assist you in installing an HP printer driver to replace the HP manager software.

SMART Expression 503 Integrator’s Guide 49 Appendix C: Adapters for Connecting Macintosh Computers

The standard cabinet configuration only supports PC-based internal and guest laptop computers.

To connect Macintosh computers that don’t have USB capability, order the Macintosh Conversion Kit. One of these kits will convert either the internal computer connections or the guest laptop connections. Two kits are required to do both.

To connect USB-equipped Macintosh computers, order the USB-ADP ( a.k.a. the SMART USB Adapter).

Macintosh Conversion Kit (Non-USB Macintosh Connection) This little kit contains adapters that let you easily integrate a non-USB Macintosh computer – either the internal or guest laptop computer – to the Expression cabinet.

The kit contains the following three adapters:

SMART Board Serial Adapter Mini-DIN 8/DB9M Allows a Macintosh computer to connect to the SMART Board interactive whiteboard cable Video Cable Adapter DB15M/HD15F Allows a Macintosh computer to connect to the projector video cable Printer Cable Adapter Mini-DIN 8/DB25F Allows a Macintosh computer to connect to the printer cable Detailed instructions for installation are provided with the kit. SMART USB Adapter (USB-Equipped Macintosh Connection) Use the SMART USB adapter to connect a USB-equipped laptop or an internal computer to the Expression cabinet. The SMART USB adapter converts information that is sent in serial format to Universal Serial Bus (USB) format. This adapter has a male DB9 serial connector at the RS-232 serial end and a male USB "A" connector at the USB end. Detailed instructions for installation are provided with the adapter.
