The scene is set and the South-Eastern Spanish city of Murcia is ready to welcome the best race walkers of Europe for the 11th European Cup Race Walking. Europe's race walkers are eagerly looking forward to the event, as it will provide them with a much-va- lued opportunity to compete together with their compatriots for one of Europe's most important team titles. The city of Murcia is known for its warm and dry conditions which the athletes will likely have to face. The European Cup Race Walking has quickly established itself as a competition of the highest level as evidenced by a number of personal and season best performances at Dudince 2013. A repeat of the gripping contests that highlighted the previous edition can be expected here again. We are grateful to the Spanish Athletics Federation and especially to the city of Murcia, who have wor- ked hard to provide the best possible conditions in a short amount of time, considering the competition was previously to be held in Ivano-Frankvisk, Ukraine. We know they have put their hearts into making the event a fitting tribute to their efforts. We wish the best of luck to all the competitors and teams and an enjoyable stay to everyone involved in what promises to be another great event. Un cordial saludo a todos Murcia, of very outstanding race walkers land, will be the scene of this edition of the European Cup of race walking, a competition of very long tradition in the international calendar. We have to remind that in this same course of Murcia's capital, it was celebrated some years ago the World Ra- ce Walking Challenge final, with a plenty of success and very remarkable results. This next may, our team, with all-levels stars, will have the opportunity of delighting athletic fans with their perfor- mances. Race walking in Europe is the best in the world, with the permission of Chinese, Japanese and Australian walkers, and that's the reason why this competition will be very attractive and spectacu- lar. The one in Murcia will also be the selection competition for the World Championships in Bei- jing, so it will be a very important encouragement for our athletes. We wish all the athletes competing and their accompanying persons a very happy stay in Mur- cia. Sure they will enjoy all the good things this magnificent region can offer them. A warm greeting for everyone. 9 COPA DE EUROPA DE MARCHA - MURCIA 2015 - EUROPEAN CUP RACE WALKING JUNTA DIRECTIVA RFEA - ROYAL SPANISH FEDERATION COUNCIL PRESIDENTE JOSE MARIA ODRIOZOLA LINO VICEPRESIDENTE 1º JOSE

This was the only A qualifier done on the day in the horrendous conditions and it was her third win in a row in this annual championship. This confirmed her Olympic spot and was a dominant display. This week, I am going to balance the equation and announce my walker of the week as Jared Tallent. Jared and Claire flew out on the Sunday morning after their heroics in Hobart and both contested 20km races a week later in what was a big weekend carnival of walking in Chihuahua in Mexico – and both were successful, earning silvers in their respective events. Jared fought it out with Eder Sanchez of Mexico, taking silver in 1:21:50 while Claire fought it out with Portuguese walker Ines Henriques, also taking silver in 1:33:21. You can read about both their performances later in the newsletter.
