Competing in the Little Athletics Victoria U15 1500m walk championship at the Casey Fields athletics track in Berwick (Melbourne) last weekend, she won in a huge time of 6:29.19, setting a new championship record and doing a 26 sec PB! Jemma showed her potential with a win in the 2015 LBG Carnival U14 2km walk last June (9:23) but it is this summer that she has really kicked down. She won the Victorian U16 3000m championship in 14:35 in February and then improved to 14:13 in taking third in the Australian U16 3000m in Perth in March (she also took bronze in the U18 5000m walk with 15:29 at these same Australian Championships). Cousins of international walkers Jared and Rachel Tallent, Jemma and her younger sister Alanna are the latest in a long line of talented walkers to come from the Victorian country city of Ballarat.

For Jared, it was another fantastic top-eight finish and it was in the lesser of his two Olympic events. With the Olympic 50km event this week, Jared upped the ante even further, taking his second successive Olympic 50km silver medal and recording a 2+ minute PB time of 3:36:53, also breaking the Olympic record into the bargain. What a performance!
