The conservation contributions from this holiday raised £700, namely £40 per person topped up by Gift Aid through the Honeyguide Wildlife Charitable Trust. Honeyguide is committed to supporting the protection of Lilium rhodopaeum. The Rhodope lily is a scarce endemic flower of the Western Rhodopes, found on just a handful of sites in Bulgaria and just over the border in Greece, about half of which have no protection. Money raised in 2014 was enough to fund Honeyguide leader Vlado Trifonov, who is recognised as the leading authority on the Rhodope lily, for monitoring and mowing for two years at the location visited by Honeyguiders. That includes this year (2015). That work is likely to continue for some years, but other conservation needs in the future are uncertain.

© Entomologica Fennica. 25 February 2011 Parasitoids (Hymenoptera) of leaf-spinning moths (Lepidoptera) feeding on Vaccinium uliginosum L. along an ecological gradient in central European peat bogs Aurel I. Lozan, Karel Spitzer, Josef Jaro, Andrey Khalaim, Maria Concetta Rizzo, Emilio Guerrieri & Ale Bezdìk Lozan,A.I.,Spitzer,K.,Jaro,J.,Khalaim,A.,Rizzo,M.C.,Guerrieri,E.& Bezdìk, A. 2010: Parasitoids (Hymenoptera) of leaf-spinning moths (Lepidop- tera) feeding on Vaccinium uliginosum L. along an ecological gradient in central European peat bogs. Entomol. Fennica 21: 243253. Parasitoids of leaf-spinning Lepidoptera associated with two isolated central Eu- ropean peat bogs were investigated. Five families of parasitoid Hymenoptera (Braconidae, Ichneumonidae, Eulophidae, Pteromalidae and Encyrtidae) were recorded. Three categories were recognised: (1) primary parasitoids, (2) faculta- tive hyperparasitoids and (3) obligatory hyperparasitoids. Ten species of Braco- nidae, five species and seven marked morphospecies among Ichneumonidae, and three species of Chalcidoidea were identified. Despite of some niche-specific (but less host-specific) parasitoids, all these hymenopterans are likely to be gen- eralists and none of them were confirmed to be habitat and/or host specialists. Unlike their eurytopic (opportunistic tyrphoneutral) parasitoids, the Lepidoptera hosts associated with peat bogs are partially highly stenotopic (tyrphobionts and tyrphophiles). The occurrence of parasitoids compared to their potential hosts was structured along an ecological (mesoclimatic) gradient, so most parasitoids were recorded from margins while stenotopic (narrow habitat adaptation) moths were mostly distributed near the centre of the bog habitat. • Ground Beetle Communities (Coleoptera, Carabidae) of Holm Oak-Forests (Quercus Ilex) and Their Degradation Stages on Mallorca (Iles Baleares, Spain)
Ground beetle communities (Coleoptera, Carabidae) of Holm oak-forests (Quercus ilex) and their degradation stages on Mallorca (Iles Baleares, Spain) Raphael SCHULLER and Erik ARNDT Schuller, R. and Arndt, E. 2008. Ground beetle communities (Coleoptera, Carabidae) SHNB of Holm oak-forests (Quercus ilex) and their degradation stages on Mallorca (Iles Baleares, Spain). Boll. Soc. Hist. Nat. Balears, 51: 63-72. ISSN 0212-260X. Palma de Mallorca. Ground beetles (Coleoptera: Carabidae) were examined in the Serra de Tramuntana (Mallorca). These beetles serve as ecological indicators to describe effects of human impact in terrestrial habitats and are used in nature conservation. There were analysed holm oak (Quercus ilex) forest sites as well as garrigue sites in former oak forest SOCIETAT D’HISTÒRIA areas. A total of 17 Carabid species with 1810 individuals was recorded. One species, NATURAL DE LES BALEARS Pseudomasoreus canigoulensis, was found first time on the Balearic islands. The species numbers per site varied between 2-6 in forests and 5-10 in garrigues. Despite the lower species number, the forest sites had more individuals due to a large population density of Calosoma sycophanta, a specialized oak forest species. The ground beetle community changes clearly between forest and garrigue in the Serra de Tramuntana despite the fact that both habitat types are located in direct neighbourhood and that both habitat types are shared by many abundant species in other Mediterranean areas (e.g. Greek mountains). We must conclude that the decrease of forest area and forest fragmentation of Mallorca are connected with decrease and possible disappearing of typical (in part endemic) forest Carabidae which do not find secondary habitats in shrubland.

Juni 1998 Zweiflügler aus Bayern XIII (Diptera, Tachinidae) Klaus VON DER DUNK & Hans-Peter TSCHORSNIG Abstract This paper gives an overview on the occurence of 354 species of tachinid flies in Bavaria. Plangia graminea (Serville) (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae) is considered a minor sporadic pest in vineyards of the Western Cape Province, South Africa, and was the focus of this study. In the past few seasons (since 2012) P. graminea appeared to have caused a substantial amount of damage leading to great concern among the wine farmers of the Western Cape Province. Very little was known about the biology and ecology of this species, and no monitoring method was available for this pest. The overall aim of the present study was, therefore, to investigate the biology and ecology of P. graminea in vineyards of the Western Cape to contribute knowledge towards the formulation of a sustainable integrated pest management program, as well as to establish an appropriate monitoring system.
