Oktober wird die Progressive Rockband – die gerne Ausflüge in die Zeiten des 70er- und 80er-Jahre-Rock macht – ihr neues Album „The Color Before The Sun“ veröffentlichen. Nach dem ersten Song „You Got Spirit, Kid“ präsentiert der Vierer nun einen weiteren Track namens „Here To Mars“. Mit ihrer ersten Single „You Got Spirit, Kid“ konnten Coheed And Cambria durchaus überraschen, denn anders als üblich besticht dieser Song mit für die Band eher untypischen Classic Rock. Auch mit dem zweiten Vorboten „Here To Mars“ macht die Band einen musikalischen Abstecher in Neo-Prog und Posthardcore-Gefilde. „The Color Before The Sun“ wird das bis dato achte Studioalbum der Band sein. Coheed And Cambria gründeten sich 2001 als eine Konzeptband, die in ihren Liedern die Geschichte von dem Ehepaar Coheed and Cambria Kilgannon erzählt. Dieses Paar lebt auf einem Planeten ähnlich unserer Erde und sind Wächter einer Verbindung von Planeten innerhalb eines Universums – Genügend Stoff also, für viele weitere Alben. "The Color Before The Sun" erscheint am 16. Oktober. Brown, Advisor Between 1984 and 1991, heavy metal became one of the most publicly popular and commercially successful rock music subgenres. The focus of this dissertation is to explore the following research questions: How did the subculture of heavy metal music between 1984 and 1991 evolve and what meanings can be derived from this ongoing process? How did the contextual circumstances surrounding heavy metal music during this period impact the performative choices exhibited by artists, and from a position of retrospection, what lasting significance does this particular era of heavy metal merit today? A textual analysis of metal- related materials fostered the development of themes relating to the selective choices made and performances enacted by metal artists. These themes were then considered in terms of gender, sexuality, race, and age constructions as well as the ongoing negotiations of the metal artist within multiple performative realms. Occurring at the juncture of art and commerce, heavy metal music is a purposeful construction. Metal musicians made performative choices for serving particular aims, be it fame, wealth, or art. These same individuals worked within a greater system of influence. Metal bands were the contracted employees of record labels whose own corporate aims needed to be recognized.

Abstract approved:_____________________________________________________ Ryann Reynolds-McIlnay The rise of digital streaming has largely impacted the way the average listener consumes music. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time.

Es war der Bus, der auf dem Weg nach Köln den Dienst verweigerte und der Band die Gelegenheit bot, Selfies von der Autobahn in den sozialen Medien zu posten. Da die Männer neben dem notwendigen Soundcheck auch die Fans mit Gold- oder gar Platin-Tickets (incl. Meet and Greet mit der Band, Foto mit der Band, etc.) bedienen mussten, war schnell klar, daß der Einlass um 19 Uhr nicht zu halten war. Kurzerhand wurde der Beginn um eine halbe Stunde auf 20.30 Uhr verschoben, draußen vor dem Eingang vergnügte sich derweil die wartende Menge bei bestem Wetter. Der englische Support Act Dinosaur Pile-Up eröffnete schließlich den Abend. Den Stil dieser Band kann man guten Gewissens als alternativen Rock klassifizieren. Den jedoch würzt sie mit einer gehörigen Portion Grunge – und tatsächlich erinnerte das Trio zumindest optisch an die jungen Nirvana. Nun, die drei Engländer boten eine grundsolide Show und heimsten verdientermaßen ordentlich Applaus ein. Allen voran Sänger und Gitarrist Matt Bigland legte sich gut ins Zeug.
