26th Issue - First Quarter of 2014 Trend from January 1, 2014 to April 1, 2014 Land Price Research Division Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism May 2014 Survey Outline 1. Survey objective To clarify those land value trends of intensively used districts in major cities on a quarterly basis, which tend to indicate property market trends leadingly. 2. Matters to be surveyed Licensed Real Property Appraisers (LRPAs) collect information on the real property markets of the surveyed districts, and estimate land value trends by using real property appraisal methods. The results are to be aggregated by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. The survey results also include a summary of interviews with several real estate experts at real estate firms and financial institutions in each district. 3. Surveyed districts Those districts in three major metropolitan areas (Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya areas) and other major cities, land price trends of which are particularly important in the real property market. A total of 150 districts, including 65 districts in Tokyo area, 39 districts in Osaka area, 14 districts in Nagoya area, and 32 districts in other major cities, are surveyed. (See the attached sheet for the outlines of the districts.). Residential districts comprise of districts intensively used for high-rise apartments, etc. (44 districts). New Development Projects Euclid Corridor The project involved a total reconstruction of Euclid Avenue from Public Square to beyond University Circle (approx. 6.4 km east of downtown), and included bus-only lanes with center-median station boarding, priority signaling, and fast commute times. In addition to transit and road improvements, the transportation project also invested heavily in the Euclid Avenue streetscape, rebuilding the street from storefront to storefront, removing old vaults and streetcar tracks, and building new sidewalks, lighting, and landscaping. The project is expected to spur investments in residential, retail, office, and mixed-use redevelopments, including over 4,000 residential units along the corridor. The Flats Wolstein's FLATS plans include a complete demolition of the current east bank, realignment of Old River Road, and the construction of hundreds of apartments, townhouses, and retail over parking, connections to the RTA Waterfront Line, and a new office building that is being pitched as the new home for the local Defense Finance and Accounting Service office, scheduled to add over 500 jobs in Cleveland over the next two years. The east bank redevelopment plan was approved and the developer is currently demolishing properties on the riverfront. Wolstein and Bob Corna, announced a partnership to unite East Bank plan Stonebridge Development, and debuted a new development plan for the neighborhood. There will be several large pedestrian bridges built over the Cuyahoga River, and the developers intend to market the area as "The Flats", without regard to east/west, as they have stated the rest of the country still knows the area by its full name. -

Proceedings of the 2nd International Symposium on Liberal Arts and General Education Clock Tower Centennial Hall Kyoto University November 23, 2011 0 1 Preface Welcome to the proceedings of the 2nd International Symposium on Liberal Arts and General Education which took place at Clock Tower Centennial Hall in Kyoto University, on November 23, 2011. This was the second International Symposium on Liberal Arts and General Education sponsored by Kyoto University in cooperation with OSAKA GAS CO., LTD and The Scientific Education Exchange. With more and more high school students being able to pursue their studies in universities, reform and enhancement of higher education have become urgent business since the quality of the graduates need to be guaranteed. Many Japanese institutes of higher education are adopting the American program, and it is often reported that this system works well. As for Kyoto University, we have tried to adopt this program from the last year. We expect that our symposium would motivate the students to learn what they want and also we hope they would become sophisticated and acquire an independent global view through this symposium. This year, we had 88 paper submissions from undergraduate students who belong to various faculties in various types of research area. Each of the submitted papers was reviewed by graduate students. Finally we accepted 11 papers. In order to motivate students to carry out research works, the following awards are prepared: Outstanding Presentation Award, Suzuran Award and EINSTEIN Award.
